Introduction
In Animal Crossing, characters you create have a range of different styles you can customize. In
New Leaf, when first creating a character, the answers you give to Rover will determine the
following:
Gender
Face style
Later, within the game, you can customize your character and change the following:
Eye color
Hair color
Hair style
Both gender and face styles are determined by the answers you choose to the questions Rover asks
you at the start of the game. Although eye color, hair color and hair style are also determined when
creating a character, these three things can be changed later once you have access to Shampoodle's
in your game.
Both gender and face style cannot be changed later, so these should be the main factors that determine
the choice you make when creating a character. Choosing a gender does not limit which clothes or hair
styles you may wear in the game, although it may affect in-game dialogue between villagers and other
characters.
Choosing Your Gender
When creating a new character, you will find yourself on a train with Rover. Firstly, he will ask you
to type in your name and then you will have an option to say:
Cool, right?
Or
Cute, right?
The first option will tell Rover that your character is male, and the second option will tell him that
your character is female. Rover will ask you to confirm this in the next question.

Other Options
As already mentioned, the eye color, hair color and hair style can all be changed after a character
is created. If you've already created a character and don't like the face style, you could try using a
Mii Mask instead. Further information about changing hair and eyes, as well as using a Mii Mask, is
available in the Shampoodle's Guide.
Another option if you've created a character with a face style you don't like, is to delete the
character. Unfortunately, if the character is the Mayor you will also lose your entire town. It is
however easy to delete non-Mayor characters and then replace them with a character with the gender
and face style of your choice. Just remember to empty the bank account, house and storage of that
character, and place the items on the ground outside before deleting your character. This is
because the house will also be deleted alongside the character, and therefore you will lose everything
if you don't first empty your account and house.
To delete a character, choose your character on the start up screen, then choose "I need help
first...." and then choose "Demolish my home".
