Below are some explanations for why we haven't done some of these (more to come):
Town Tune PlayerOverviewA Town Tune Player would allow users to hear the town tunes in the Town Tunes section of ACC. Users could click on a "Listen" button or link and hear the town tune. The official Animal Crossing (Gamecube) site has a
melody maker that allows users to create and hear town tunes.
Why It Isn't Implemented YetA couple of town tune players have been developed in the past, but there has always seemed to be some issue in making one that works really well. Most of the issues have to do with browser compatibility issues.
cmh also has created a town tune player, but it seems that it doesn't work for everyone due to some permissions/security issues. It can be found
here.
What You Can Do To HelpThere are two main steps involved: creating the player and then integrating it into ACC. jader201 is pretty much the only one who could integrate it into ACC, but anyone looking to help should work on creating a working town tune player that overcomes the issues of cmh's town tune player. Such a town tune player needs to work within a web browser and should work without generating new sound files for each town tune. Ideally, a player would accept text representing the notes as input.
Updated Pattern MakerOverviewThere are two commonly suggested updates to ACC's pattern maker: updated palettes (particularly for AC:CF) and more tools. Right now, ACC's pattern maker only has support for ACGC palettes and tools limited to coloring a single pixel, selecting a color with an eyedropper, and filling the entire pattern grid with a single color.
An updated pattern maker would include support for ACGC, AC:WW, and AC:CF palettes. The AC:CF palettes are essentially completely different from the palettes in the other two games, but the AC:WW palettes are identical to the ACGC palettes, except for palettes 12 and 13. Although not as critical as a palette update, an updated pattern maker would ideally include more tools similar to those available in the actual in-game pattern maker (such as a proper filling tool and line tool).
JoshuaJSlone's
Anicro Desapro program, which can be used to send patterns to ACC, currently has support for AC:WW and AC:CF palettes along with some more advanced tools than ACC's pattern maker.
Why It Isn't ImplementedSeveral updated pattern makers have been made in some form or another in the past, but these projects have either never been finished or were in an offline form not compatible with ACC.
Adding additional palettes to a pattern maker is really easy, but adding more advanced tools is much more difficult (although it can be done, as evidenced by more advanced pattern makers out there).
A major obstacle in adding an updated pattern maker to ACC is the integration with ACC. The pattern maker has to have the ability to submit patterns to ACC. In addition, adding additional palettes would mean that the rest of ACC's pattern section would have to receive an update. Integration into ACC requires access to ACC's inner-workings, which jader201 only has access to.
What You Can Do To HelpThere are two main components to getting an updated pattern maker on ACC: creating the actual pattern maker and integrating it into ACC. Since integrating a pattern maker into ACC requires jader201, creating the actual pattern maker is something you can do to help.
Any pattern maker created should be created in Flash (or some other common web technology). At a minimum, an updated pattern maker should probably include support for AC:CF palettes, in addition to the features that ACC's pattern maker currently provides. Other features that would be good to include would be AC:WW palette support and more tools (line tool, fill tool, etc.).
While creating a pattern maker and submitting it to the SIC does not guarantee that it will be integrated into ACC, having an actual pattern maker is a major step in getting the patterns section updated.
Constellation MakerOverviewAC:WW and AC:CF allow players to create constellations that can appear in the night sky. A constellation maker on ACC would allow users to create and share constellations in a fashion similar to patterns or town tunes.
Why It Isn't ImplementedA constellation maker (and a corresponding section on ACC) would have to be created, and a constellation maker for ACC isn't a high priority right now. The feature is not in high demand, and other features (such as an updated pattern maker) are generally seen as much more important.
Unlike the patterns and town tunes sections on ACC, the constellation feature in the AC games was not around from the very beginning, so in addition to a constellation maker, adding a constellation section to ACC would involve a lot of work.
A constellation maker also presents some challenges in implementation. A few constellation maker projects were started in the past, but none of them got very far in development.
What You Can Do To HelpLike an updated pattern maker or a town tune player, integrating a constellation maker into ACC is something only jader201 can do. However, a standalone constellation maker could be created by others. This constellation maker should be created using a web-compatible technology (such as Flash).
In creating a constellation maker, one of the first steps would be to obtain an accurate star chart that represents the sky in the AC games. The restrictions imposed by the in-game constellation makers (such as a limited number of lines) should also probably be included in a constellation maker.
PT FoldersOverview"PT Folders" would basically allows users create named folders where they could move different PTs for organization purposes. For example, a giveaway worker with many item delivery PTs might create an "Item Deliveries" folder and place all of his/her item delivery PTs in that folder. Having PT folders would allow members with many PTs to organize them into folders to make certain PTs easier to find.
Why It Isn't ImplementedAdding PT folders to ACC is something that requires access to ACC's code (and knowledge of how ACC is put together), which is something jader201 can really do. In addition, implementing such a system would require a lot of work from jader201.
What You Can Do To HelpThere really isn't much anyone other than jader201 can do to move this forward, as this feature requires access to ACC's code for almost all of it. The only thing someone might be able to do is write their own PT folder system (that they think would integrate well into ACC) on an external site and submit it to the SIC/jader201.
