I am having an issue with not receiving any bell ads, yet my missed counter has gone up significantly.
I even missed a KK Slider ad due to this issue.
I believe I recently stumbled on an announcement that ads were disabled, and I don't know if this affected bell ads, although I don't see how this would be the case since there has been people claiming bells as of today.

I do own an ad blocker, but it is always paused when viewing this site. I don't know if that may affect it any way shape or form. (In fact it is the only site I pause it on )

So, the bell ads can now appear on any post, not just the unread ones. Have you been checking the entire page when checking lately?

Yes! I have been.

When I noticed this, I started middle-clicking when opening new posts, that way I could see if I either missed it unintentionally or it just bugged.

As of writing this post, the counter went up about 200. When I received 100 to that counter both times, there was no bell ad on the previous page, and I do even remember checking before I clicked on something else and it did not appear.

I do believe it is a bug, or my ad blocker is not even paused. I have disabled my ad blocker entirely as of now, and if I still see it bug, I will update!
I however do not know yet if the ad blocker may be restricting it. I do have it paused.

I am asking other staff members for advice to give you. Please note I am not ignoring this thread, just awaiting instructions.

I have found the issue!

I use Opera GX and my ad blocker on that was on. I noticed when trying to use imgur to url an image of my ad blocker being paused. I unfortunately missed another 10,000 though. D:

I wanted to put out there that, as a compulsive bell-checker myself, I’ve been missing some bells while using Firefox for a while now. Not sure if I’m genuinely missing bell ads lately or if it’s maybe something to do with my privacy/tracking settings. Gonna try using ACC on Safari for a while and see what happens!

Definitely noticed a difference with Safari. My missed bell count was suspended at 2,900 for a few days until I realized I could maybe make ACC an exception to my Firefox’s enhanced tracking protection. So I did that, used ACC on Firefox, and within a day, my missed bell count went to 13,100—checking for bell ads as usual.

Thanks Milly, I appreciate it. :) For further context, this is on the mobile version of Firefox as well as on desktop. I suspect this is related, but I have another issue on mobile Firefox where I am periodically logged out.

Hmm this is a headscratcher. I've put together a few test cases based on some ideas I've had about what's going on - Myles, can you take a look here and tell me what you see?

With Firefox on desktop, I see all 4 images with my privacy settings enabled (DuckDuckGo browser extension & Firefox ETP). The top two images disappear when I turn on AdBlock (which I have disabled on ACC proper). On mobile, I see all 4 images with or without Firefox ETP.

Hm. That's a bit frustrating, I guess none of those were what were causing your problem then. Should have known nothing on ACC would  be that simple The developers will put our heads together some more and see if we can think of anything else. Thanks for your patience in the meantime.

For what it's worth it definitely shouldn't be necessary to turn off tracking protection to see bell ads - they are just clickable images, there's no tracking going on.
