Is there a certain way to get the floating balloon presents to fall? I typically chase them all around the town until they go up over the cliffs. I know In the past they’ve randomly fell in the trees but is there something else I should do next time?

My experience and quick search just now says that waiting until a tree catches them is in fact the only way. I actually found a thread from 2016 on this same board about them, asking if one could pop the balloons with a shovel or a net were it close enough to a cliff like in New Leaf. No responses beyond that, though, and nothing I read mentioned that method in AC:GC.
