I, like everyone else who desires their dream villager, am aware of how popular and expensive amiibo cards are. That being said; I have some money set aside and am thinking of purchasing a couple of the more popular villagers. I personally have all the cards I want but I cannot help but feel these really popular villagers should be more accessible to those who cannot afford them irl or in horizons. An example would be giving Marshall to someone who wants him and couldn't afford him otherwise. A side effect woud be if this was repeated often enough; the value would go down and be less pricey.
I cannot control who gets him and what they do, but I am aware of inflation. My question is do you think this is a good idea and what might be some of the unintended consequences if any? I'm gonna go to sleep but I would appreciate the advice.

I think it would be nice to do, people might frown on it but the game doesn't really block you from farming villagers. Although in New Horizons, I've heard people saying after they've invited a villager via Amiibo too many times they get an "answering machine" and they won't come to the campsite. It's unclear to me if it's temporary or permanent. If money isn't the issue and the block is temporary (check on that) then I'd say go for it.

But imo I think some of the cards are too expensive. I have a stack of mixed ones, some good and some people won't care about I'm sure. Like Zucker or Francine but then Quilison and Elise. There's also that slim chance they could reissue the same or new cards, meaning Marshal could become common and the issue of the expensive card goes away.

My experience with the cards is mixed in NH. I'm doing my 2nd cycle of all the cards to get DIYs through the campsite, I invited in Chow & Zucker from the cards, and Zucker I invited an extra time cause I didn't understand how it worked at the beginning, before I started the process of inviting him to live officially in my town. No answering machines so far for me. But besides Zucker & Chow everyone has only been invited 1-2 times from my deck of cards.
Apparently you can let your invited villagers go and reinvite them back but I don't get the answering machine thing.

Yeah. I had Gabby originally and she moved but I could invite her to my camp. In any case I appreciate the advice and skip on the cards

Personally I think it's outrageous what some people charge for Amiibo cards or for letting someone come and get a villager who's in boxes.
My sister-in-law and I would trade cards, or pay $1.00 for a card if we didn't have one to trade since that was what the card originally cost us.
If I don't have a card that I want, I won't pay a ridiculous amount for it. I hope that Nintendo will rerelease the amiibo cards so I can get the rest that I was unable to get the first time around.

That's why I run a thread in the Service and Shops board (check signature for details). I sell villagers for 30k bells a piece. It isn't a big devalue of the market unless you could actually keep up with the entire market demand. If you could sell Marshal as often as everyone on Nookazon wanted him you could tank the market, but nobody can sell villagers that often by themselves and getting a villager ready to sell who isn't a resident of your town already takes time to set up. At best I could trade Marshal once every two hours if I didn't want my town to just be a weed patch from all the time traveling.

The answering machine message thing is basically the void in ACNH. I did a thread about this and eventually fixed the problem by continuously cycling villagers out by natural move outs to clear my void. I had Marshal returning an answering machine until I moved out about 5 villagers. All of which has come from towns of people I sold villagers to. So essentially that is a risk to it that the villagers they kicked out could end up in your quere to move in preventing you from using the amiibo cards to get them.

Anybody is welcome to get villagers from me, I don't have 100% of the cards so I have to turn down requests sometimes. Like Dobie is a frequent request that I don't have a card for. I'd you want to purchase cards to start trading that's up to you. Personally I'm not putting more IRL money into cards to get the handful I'm missing until prices go down.

You might be better off buying fanmade flashed NFC tags to use in place of amiibo cards. Those are cheaper. Also there are rumours of Nintendo doing a new run of the cards in the future so it might be worth looking out for. Some of those scalpers are charging $70 per card for popular ones. It's not worth it at such outrageous Prices.

Thanks for clarifying the answering machine thing.

Lol does make me wonder how much my Zucker, Francine, Chow, Goldie, Stitches and a few other cards may be worth. But unless it’s like $1000 I’m not gonna trade away my preciouses.

There is an alternative to buying cards, no money necessary, which I’ve been using to help my friends get villagers they can’t afford from either cards on nookazon/discord. If you’re interested I can send you links and information explaining it.

I’ve cycled several villagers this way through the campsite and I haven’t had the answering machine (yet!). From what I researched the answering machine is because the villager is already planning on moving in, although this may have changed since - it was about three weeks ago I looked into it.
