Hi all,

My mum bought a Switch Lite exclusively for Animal Crossing, however sometimes she gets a card read error. It's only on Animal Crossing, she owns a physical copy of the game. It seems to be happening with just Animal Crossing and no other physical games that she owns. What will happen is she'll put the game in and either it will work, she'll have a card read error straight away or it will let her into the game and then it will kick her out with the card read error. Sometimes it has done it after a few hours of gameplay. Most of the time, it will happen a few times when she's trying to load the game, then it will work absolutely fine. Sometimes it won't happen at all.

I was wondering a few things, if anyone can help me out I'd really appreciate it.

1. If this is likely to be a problem exclusively with the Animal Crossing cart or the console?
2. If it is a problem with the cart and the cart stops working, if she gets a digital copy instead will she still have her original save data?
3. If the game keeps kicking her out with a card read error could this corrupt her save data?

Thanks in advance, I know I've asked a lot of technical questions there! If you need more information, please let me know. I don't want her to loose all of her progress

Hi Lucy,

1. Unless thoroughly examined, it could be either the cartridge or console. For the program to disconnect mid-game, it could be a loose physical connection, or just dirt & grime on either the cartridge or game card slot. However, I feel like it is more likely the ACNH card that is faulty because it is only affecting that game.

2. Yes, her original save will exist because ACNH saves on the console, not the cartridge or SD card.

3. The game has auto-save, so as long as that kicks in, her data is safe. However, I don't think consistent rebooting is good for any kind of device.

I'd recommend getting a trade-in wherever you bought the game if possible, if not, contact Nintendo's Customer Service. Nintendo Support: Repairs
