For those who are playing New Horizons, but have previously played older versions of Animal Crossing (in my case Wild World and New Leaf).....

What do you miss from older versions? What do you NOT miss?

For me I miss Brewster, and I miss the island tours from New Leaf, especially the balloon hunts and the fishing ones where you catch all sharks or all coelecantchs.

I definitely do not miss Kapp'n's songs.

Aww xD the songs def got annoying if you did multiple trips to the island, but they did make me chuckle quite a few times.

*Quick Note* I still love New Horizons and do not regret any time I've spent in the game*

I've only played New Leaf, but what I miss the most is the villager interactions. I visit them bc they have something rare to offer (DIY). Not because I genuinely want to develop a friendship with them and work hard at getting their coveted picture bc I really cared about them.

Also, they all say the same thing, oftentimes due to their personality, but in general, there's no unique dialogue after awhile (at least that's how it's been for me). I've gone through the effort of getting one of each personality type bc I can't stand to hear the same dialogue. I never did this in NL bc each villager was unique and interesting to talk to.

I feel like this game has improved immensely on customization and design, but at what cost?  

Edit - Another thing that came to mind is immersion. This happened for me with the MEOW coupons as well. Villagers having a cell phone, hell, even us having a cell phone is just ugh... I'm probably a lot older than most people on this site (35 next month) so I remember a time before cell phones and really miss it. Adding that to AC is just...weird to me LOL

I miss most the NL island. The NH islands are rubbish compared to them. Plus you have to reset them each time.

I definitely don't miss Tortimer Island itself, and I'm glad that they removed it, but I do miss the island tours from New Leaf. There were some fun mini-games there, and multiplayer in particular is lacking in New Horizons as compared to New Leaf.

Been playing since Wild World. There's not a whole lot that I do miss from Wild World and City Folk except Brewster as you say.

I don't miss Tortimer Island from New Leaf, as I think it was an easy way to complete most of the bug and fish encyclopaedia.

I admit (and I think I'll be mostly alone in this) I miss the fact that it felt like you were paying off your mortgage FOREVER! I've been playing NH everyday since release and I've nearly paid off my whole house. Whether that's because I'm a lot older and more experienced with the game or because you don't have to make rooms bigger one by one anymore I don't know.

I also miss rude villagers. There was something about getting to know really rude villagers and forming your opinion on them based on what they'd said to insult you. It feels like villagers are mostly valued on looks alone now

I miss the early morning aerobics with Tortimer from the GC version.  It was silly but so much fun.

Gyroids.  I want my ROIDS!!!  

I do not miss the gyroids at all, but as I got my third star today in New Horizons, I was reminded of another thing I miss: K. K. Slider playing in Wild World. I did not like the nightclub arrangement in New Leaf.

I'm a sucker for the rustic-y, acoustic-y vibe of the previous titles. In fact, I tried recreating that quiet seating area from NL across from the Dream Suite in my NH island.

Animal Crossing always felt like a magical forest tucked away in a mountain nook. So I'd say I miss that nostalgia most. The mountains, the guitar music, the train station *Daydream Emote*

I miss the town ordinances from NL. I don't want to time travel because it is a hassle in this version, but I work full time. I appreciated that the shops could stay open later in NL.

I miss the Happy Home Showcase. I loved taking my 3DS around town or on trips, and seeing other people's houses. I really built up my catalog that way.

I hope that they do fireworks in August. I also would love if they brought back the Harvest Moon event. I miss the certainty of holidays. It kinda bugs me that they are going to do updates to add stuff (and maybe even make it paid DLC).

I'm also missing a lot of the previous characters like Katrina, Luna, Brewster, and even snotty Gracie.

And I'm starting to get tired of the repetitiveness of the same dialogue from neighbors, same recipes, and same furniture items. How many trash cans am I gonna get but still don't have kitchen furniture?

I've played every version of this game. I played the GC version for 2 years, cycling through 2 different characters. I played NL for 3 years. I enjoy NH greatly. But there's no reason to make things unnecessarily repetitive.

I also miss the ordinances... I could definitely use having the shop open later.

The thing I miss the most is probably the inability to shake trees while holding tools. I can't count the number of times I've accidentally shook a tree when I meant to use a tool, and I can count the number of times that I've actually intended to shake a tree while holding a tool (because it's zero).

I'm very thankful we do not have to water flowers anymore.  

One of the things I'm not liking is the town folks want more things around town.  I am amazed at what some folks have done with their towns and tip my hat to them.  Me tho, I like having a island/town that is fairly rural.  I don't want pathways or an amusement park in my town.  But I also want to make my little villagers happy.  

I will admit I have warmed up very much to DYI's and enjoy them.  That said, between the bottle & villagers I have a good 20 sitting on the ground.  I might have a friend or coworker visit once a week, but for the most part I like playing by myself and they are really starting to pile up.

I miss Brewsters, island tours and meeting people on the island to play mini games. Most of all,  I miss the ability to load up the boat with 3 friends and head to the island for mini games!

Don't miss the few trolls on the island that would try to kidnap me for bells,  run while I was fishing/ bug catching or cut the wifi and make me loose 30 min plus of work just to be mean!

I can't say that I miss anything or anyone necessarily, but I'd like to see the Flea Markets back. Given the nature of the game, with the item colour locks, it would be great to potentially be able to buy furniture from villagers in colours that you can't get yourself [I just want Rodney's green billiard table] ...

I do miss the red turnip trade though ... That involved the NPCs a little more than usual ... And town ordinances would be nice to have back again ...

Oh, and the Minimalist, Rococo and Gorgeous Series !! Plus the Classic Sofa ...

Maybe there's more that I missed than I thought !!

Oh, my goodness, I miss gyroids, I miss Brewster, I miss the many distinctive lines of furniture, I miss the many types of in-game games (like playing the Nintendo games in my house), I miss the greater variety of fruit, I miss seeing Pete, and I big-time miss the ability to make all the miniature fossils.
I agree with others that I don't miss Tortimer singing (they're only cute once or twice) and I don't miss the difficulty of catching shark-type fish.  
Someone wrote about the characters devolving and saying the same things; I was beginning to notice that myself, and that reminds me of something that bugs me about New Leaf and New Horizons: If I tell Goose to say "Cluckity cluck", I don't want Flip (a monkey) saying Goose's catchphrase the very next day.  One time I walked up and joined a conversation between two characters and they were sharing a phrase that I had only recently given to one of the characters.  I want them to have distinctive phrases, not share the latest one amongst all of them. It's a small thing in the scheme of things, yes, but I don't know why they can't keep their own secret phrases.

How recent was this? This used to happen to me a lot, but I just realised upon reading your post that it hasn't happened in months. I think it may have been removed in one of the updates.

i miss katrina. she never affected my gameplay, i knew she wasn’t giving me the lottery numbers, i just liked her.

I miss the Ranch Series. It was my favorite and I always had it as the main room's theme.

A not-so-comprehensive list of things I miss from previous AC games:

The balls you could kick around
The sports festivals and getting to watch the animals participate. I'd love it if they brought these back with the chance for the villagers to play too.
Morning aerobics. Yes, including the stamp card.
The ability to have 15 villagers max.
Katrina, and luck in general.
The high-priced Gracie clothing and furniture. Especially the gorgeous and princess sets.
Many of the sets from previous games.
The Lovely Phone
Brewster, and KK preforming at the Roost rather than outside (it made him feel more like a gig than some busker)
Different regions in the game celebrating different holidays. Even if all it is is just Isabelle standing at the town square, it was so cool to go to a S.Korean or Japanese friend's town and nab a rare item on Earth Day or Setsubun.

The 'ruder' personalities of your villagers in the Gamecube AC. They felt more distinct back then, rather than the generically nice RNG machines they are now. Oh well, at least they're a little less food-obsessed.
Having letter writing matter.
Pelly, Pete and Phillis. Also, Wendell too.
The town shrine overall. It gave the town a more foresty, almost mystical vibe. Almost like... An animal forest...
Silver Axes and the cute stumps they create.
The debit card. I feel like it would be very useful in NH, considering some of the higher priced furniture can break 100k. I know our inventories are way bigger, but who's always carrying hundreds of thousands of bells around (when they can help it)? A debit card would be a great way to consolodate space and cut down mad dashes to the town hall. On that note...
A working ABT item. There was one in the previous game, I know it. Imagine how convenient and immersive it would be if you could place down ABDs that function outside of your island? Also, the ability to withdraw bells from your ABT outside of your home island would be nice too.

I'm sure there are loads more things I miss, but that's all I got off the top of my head.

I have played since the Gamecube days!

I completely forgot about the balls you could kick around town.
I miss the NES games we used to have in Gamecube! Such a fun addition.

City Folk had some of my favorite music, but I'm loving the NH music so far.
I also miss how active ACC used to be back in the CF days. There was so much going on on this site and endless amounts of people to play with!

Crowsie I'm 100% with you on everything you've said, but mostly this. You felt like you were forming a friendship with the villagers when they were more grumpy!

God I miss the Gracie furniture, I miss Brewster, I miss gyroids. I miss sitting on rocks! I love NH, but as many of you have said, the dialogue with villagers is extremely repetitive

One of the things I have missed as it has slowly disappeared is letters to my villagers.  In Population Growing you were almost compelled to write them for your 4th letter of the pack (along with the 3 fossils you sent out).  And they would show the letters off with glee.  It was a nice way to track the nearly 20 years I've played that game.  But over time they have been less and less.  I'll admit I haven't started a 2nd character in New Horizons, so maybe they do show them off to other people.  I just know any of the letters I have wrote them has not popped up in our conversations.  And that is a little sad.
