So I saw from another thread that Redd is theorised to only come once a month, which would fit with what I've seen so far (I don't TT).

However, yesterday I thought I might try and call him with the amiibo card; I got a dialogue with him saying 'Redd's treasure trawler' but that he had a customer calling and couldn't come to town. This morning though, he was moored at my beach, I'm wondering if this is a coincidence? I haven't seen him since when he first arrived with the new update.

So I'm proposing that if you call Redd with the card he might come the next day? Anyone want to put my theory to the test? I'll give it another shot after he's left tomorrow and update the thread in a few days time!

This sounds interesting, I will try this out via TT and report back if it works. This could potentially be a game-changer for non-TT'ers.

Let me know what you find, would definitely help in getting more art.
I also had 2 real paintings today too (the ones that you can't get fakes of; last visit he had all fake stuff!) so don't know if that's also coincidental!

Unfortunately, I don't have Redd's Amiibo card, so I can't join in with this, but I'll be watching with interest!

This marks the first NPC Amiibo card to become functional with an update, doesn't it? Prior to this, scanning an NPC card would just show a message that they weren't available right now, or something along those lines, rather than showing a proper Amiibo Phone dialogue.

Could be, although I'm not sure if I tried Saharah before the update. Would be interesting to try Leif at this point too to see if the same happens.

I did try Kapp'n before the last update and it let me go through to click invite to campsite, but said he's not available right now (the phrasing makes me think he might be in future), whereas yes, Redd popped up with dialogue!

Will try a few different NPCs in the coming days!

So I tried TT'ing a day after using Redd's amiibo and sadly he wasn't there. Since I already had his 'monthly appearance', this may have had something to do with it. At best, the card might trigger Redd to appear earlier than his scheduled appearance for that month, but chances are it was just a co-incidence Redd appeared the day after you used the card.

Darn it, Nintendo are being really stingy then! Why not twice a month even? It's gonna take years to get all the art

To be fair, Redd isn't the only way to get art, and it's a real-time game that's meant to be played little-by-little over the span of many years. There've been several reports that neighbours can now send you pieces of art at random, so there's that to accelerate the process as well.

I can confirm the neighbors sending art via mail. Bam sent me the Mona Lisa painting and it was genuine!

I'm curious, was his letter specifically about art, or was it like any other furniture-sending letter?

I'll be watching this thread too to see if this works but I'm leaning towards that this probably doesn't work. This would be a game mechanic that only works with those that have the amiibo card. Since there's such a limit to how many paintings he has, let alone real paintings, it would be an unfair advantage.
