Like many here, I was disappointed by the game. I tried my best to like it, and where I don't hate it, it does leave alot to be desired especially compared to NL. I've noticed that I haven't picked it up in a few days. Anyone else feeling the fatigue? It just feels like now there is nothing to do and borderline boring. Just my opinion, no need to bash me. Anyone else feel this way? Really sucks, because this is my favorite game series to feel this way after a short time after release. Normally I can play AC for months without getting bored. IDK, I just don't see how the updates will add much to the game at this point, since they will likely just be small additions each time.

I disagree. I do not feel bored with it. To me, there is too much to do yet but that's what makes me keep picking up the game.

I’m still having a blast. There’s far too much to do.

I think that the complaints some people make about content/characters removed from New Leaf and City Folk are a little overblown, considering that many of those same features have been reworked into this game in a more streamlined manner:

Shampoodles: We can change our hair and facial features more easily and more extensively now
Kick’s: Still in the game. Never found his own store very necessary anyways. He works better as a nomad.
Nook Homes: We can still customize the outside of our houses
Photobooth: We can still take photos for our passport
Auction House: literally no one used it
Dr. Shrunk/Frillard shows: Too much of a hassle and not very entertaining tbh

Not saying I would be against these returning to expand on some of these features, but all of these features are accounted for and made better. They trimmed the fat, and I appreciate that.

The Cafe: Alright, we all love Brewster, and there’s a simple pleasure to be found in drinking a cup of coffee and listening to that amazing Roost theme... but it’s a pointless feature otherwise, and it doesn’t add much to the game in the grand scheme of things. NL added the part-time job, which was cute and fun, but the rewards weren’t very interesting. I’m confident that the Roost will return in an update reworked anyways

Art Exhibit: Let’s be honest, very few of us ever actually completed this exhibit, or even desired to complete this exhibit. It was always the black sheep of the Museum. Getting art from Redd just took too long, and there was no reward of value for completing it.

The only things that I believe are truly missed, are Kappn’s island, the HHA, and — to some extent — the dream suite (although we can still visit other towns in person, which i find to be more fulfilling). All huge multiplayer/communication features. These really should return somehow and be made better.

Swimming was a nice novelty, but if we’re all honest with ourselves, it did not add much to the game. I personally rarely ever swam.

I’m open to these returning, but I personally never found any of these features to be game-changing.

The ability to place furniture anywhere outdoors IS a game changer, and this feature alone makes this game the best in the series for me. Really don’t think I could easily return to a past Ac game after experiencing the freedom it affords. Terraforming is another game changer, but it’s icing on the cake for me. It’s by no means a perfect game (visiting and leaving towns is still a disgusting process), but there’s far too many new great features for me to be bored. Especially when I can sell bugs and fish 24/7
There’s really no excuse.

Just curious because I don't know how someone who likes other animal crossing games could be bored in NH already.

Have you fully upgraded your house? Decorated each room to your liking? Do you have all the bridges and inclines where you want them? Have you made gardens and cross breed flowers?

Like mrbaconsock said above, putting down furniture has been a game changer for me as well. Have you made yards for all your islanders? Have you reached a 5 star island yet?

If you've already done these things-- how did you make bells so quickly? (asking for a friend )

And if you haven't done all these things, why not? What do you not like about them? What took up most of your time in other AC games?

Genuinely asking all these questions out of curiosity because I don't understand why this game has been seemingly so polarizing for ACC members.

orry123,

I think a lot of the "nope this game has more than enough to do" crowd and responses are from people who have NO CLUE what they are missing.   There are a HUGE number of new people happily playing this game (like my wife) who never experienced New Leaf and don't have the slightest inkling how shallow it is compared to previous games (especially New Leaf).

So you are going to get 5 to 1 responses of people not knowing what the heck you are talking about... but there are a few of us out there that feel, VERY STRONGLY, the shallow nature of this iteration over the previous generation.     It's a shame too, because it's beautiful.    It could have been my favorite of all time had it been as deep as New Leaf and as graphically amazing at this one.

I'm curious about what you all think was deeper about New Leaf? I just got NL last christmas and played for a few months until NH came out. I don't understand what the NL hype is about, but maybe because I didn't play it for as long?(For reference I played both wild world and city folk for years and nearer to when both were orignally released, I love both of them but I'm also really liking NH too)

Is nostalgia a factor here?

I have played City Folk and New Leaf myself. It is true that New Horizons brought in a whole bunch of new people, but there are also the people waiting for this game for 7 years. Is there a lot to be desired? Yes. However, since these are the same developers as Splatoon, I think they will go the same route with in game patches bringing in new stuff. Everyone loved Splatoon 1 by the time the final patch came out. I think Brewster and Redd could be right around the corner. I am personally disappointed of the many furniture sets that did not make the cut (card, astro, kiddie, sweets, gracie, 7-11), but the new furniture is amazing as well. Some of my favorite sets include the diner, cherry blossom, bamboo, and ironwood. Once the final patch comes out, then I will put my definitive opinion on this game.

I have played every single game in the series, and just as SeaCucumber has said, I don’t understand how anyone could be bored with this game if they’ve ever played or enjoyed any of the AC games before this one.

NH is arguably a “deeper” experience than NL was. A lot of the features from NL have simply been reworked and streamlined (and improved IMO). Furniture customization is still there. Customization in general has been levelled up significantly. The only things that unquestionably added value to New leaf that haven’t yet made it into NH are the island mini games, the HHA, and the dream suite. Of these three features, it’s only the Island games that persuaded me to play significantly more hours than I otherwise would have. The HHA and the dream suite were great additions, but they didn’t necessarily extend my playtime by a large amount, and it’s not as though the ability to explore other players’ homes and villages is gone altogether in NH.

I am also not upset that many of the furniture sets are not yet in the game, only by virtue that every animal crossing game has never granted access to ALL of the game’s furniture at once. There are still plenty of items and furniture in all of their variations for me to find and collect, and I have no doubt that more will be added to this game over time.

For the people that are not time traveling or trading items in the game as often, I feel like it can get boring in the game because the shops only carry so many items a day and if you’re not finding any items you want to decorate your island with or your house with, it takes the fun out of. Like I had to wait 20+ days for an item I wanted to show up. I ended up having to do a trade just to finally get another item right away before having to wait however longer for my shops to finally get them in sucked. So in that sense, it can get a little boring if you really want to decorate your house & island and can’t do it. It seems almost impossible sometimes unless you’re doing trades all the time to get stuff. And some people don’t want to trade or don’t have the ability to do trades; also some people on the trading boards are asking ridiculous amount of bells/items just to trade a simple item. Or there’s those that don’t have many people to play with, so in that sense too it can get boring. I’m not completely bored with the game, I do still very much like it, but there are times/days where I pick it up less often throughout the day. I still play everyday, but some days I find myself playing less because of a little boredom here and there.

Limited access to furniture is how EVERY animal crossing game has been. It’s a non-issue.

Before you only had your house you could decorate. Now you have an entire island + a house. And it seems like you can’t even increase your island rating without excessively decorating your island...so yeah, it kind of is an issue in some ways.

Yeah I agree, I don't like how decorating the outside factors into your island rating. I want to keep my island looking more "natural" like in other AC games, but it's been hard to do.

I do find, however, that I've gotten a lot of cool furniture from balloons (especially now that bunny day has ended) and I've gotten quite a lot of items from giving villagers presents and them thanking me with a gift.

Sometimes I get a little tired of it, honestly. There hasn't been much going on since Bunny Day ended. And I don't play online much. But in that case, I just take a break and play the next day.

I've been winding down the TTing and yeah, I'm kinda tired. It's also a little overwhelming how big our islands are now. For now I'm just focusing on getting the villagers I want/working on small sections of the island at a time.

I would definitely be playing more if they had a tortimer island in this game, so this also factors into why I haven't been playing much asides from doing trades - which get tiring real quick too. But I also take into account I feel like this about most video games I play these days. So this isn't a bad thing necessarily.

For now I'm just waiting for the earth day event

This has easily been the AC game that has grabbed my attention for the longest amount of time without me caving and TTing.
Decorating outside is such a great addition and adds a lot of fun as I've found myself constantly reworking areas as I get more DIYs and furniture, or just get fed up with how something looks and want to mix it up.
I've also had a lot of fun making designs for specific pieces of furniture in my house, or finding gifts to give to each villager to improve their home.

Sure there's stuff missing but I'm confident they will add it in via updates, unless the schedule gets pushed back due to the current state of things.

This game has a lot to offer already and heck if you're not feeling it right now that's okay, I'm sure the game will be even better when you feel up to cracking into it again.

orry (OP) I totally get what you're saying. i have the game booted up for most of the day but i'm spending most of my time on here or just doing other things and picking it up for a few minutes at a time. i can't play for hours like i used to. what i've noticed is that people are getting different things out of this game. a lot of comments are asking how you could be bored if you haven't designed your island fully yet when that takes a while, grown hybrids, etc. the problem is that for us long-time AC fans (and just for those of us that aren't really into that kind of thing) that's not what we want out of this game. where is the dialogue with villagers? i talk to my villagers and hear the same 4 things all day long (granted i have mostly peppy villagers, but still, this was less of an issue in previous games). what about redd, katrina, hide and seek, brewster, copper and booker, diving, kapp'n/the island, tortimer, etc?? yes, i understand that this is a new game. but i never made hybrids in the last game. i did the bare minimum to get the max town rating in new leaf and i hated it. flowers are boring to me. decorating is boring. if i wanted to craft and decorate i would play HHD or PC. to those of you that are enjoying the game, i am happy for you! animal crossing has brought me joy for more than half my life and i'm glad that you are getting some of that joy. but to those of you asking, "how could you already be bored?" you're not getting it. this isn't really the game(s) we've grown up with and loved. yes i understand it's a new game. it's supposed to be different. but there are so many more aspects that i didn't even name that were sacrificed for...designing a pretty island?? now, don't get me wrong, if that's your thing and you love it, more power to you! but i couldn't care less about decorating. even the old things like just going fishing for a long time. i can barely get fish to spawn after a while and i don't want to sit and watch myself craft a pocketful of fish bait for an hour. that's so boring to me. what about in the original? cheat codes and getting to play whole NES games (and playing games on the wii u and DS in NL). looking for buried treasure. the post office! pete and pelly and phyllis? there's so much that us old-timers miss. so please. if you are enjoying the game, go enjoy it! don't come here and tell us we are missing out on so much or playing the game wrong. we are just playing a game that wasn't made with the older fans in mind. and please don't tell me that i should be waiting for more in DLC. didn't ever have to wait on DLC in previous games, and i'm not holding out my hopes for some grand reveal in the future. if that happens, i will be pleasantly surprised, but telling us that are not enjoying the game as much because of what it is lacking that it "might" happen isn't really comforting.

EDIT: also, something really frustrating in this game is the amount of glitches. they rushed out an unfinished game (and yes, i understand that people would have been very disappointed to have the game delayed again) but now that the game is still receiving positive reviews despite it's MANY bugs and glitches which only a few have been fixed, there is less incentive for them to fix the game, update the game, or provide new content. so i'm even less thrilled about the idea of "possible" future updates

I enjoy it quite a bit.
I've upgraded my house full and paid it off, and I like collecting furniture and recipes.
I dont have all the flowers yet.
I dont have my favourite villagers yet.
I know I want to customise everything under the sun.

The game is missing a lot from NL im sure will be included in future updates.
I have hope and I'm enjoying it a lot.
