I seriously can’t put into words how much I loathe this mechanic.  It really bothers me that they even felt the need to put it in this game.  It has made this game no longer feel like Animal Crossing.  If I wanted to craft, I’d play Minecraft.  I don’t think it had any business whatsoever being in an Animal Crossing game.

It becomes basically a non-issue once you get Nook's Cranny, because then you can buy the flimsy version of all the tools from the drawer in the corner.

I actually thought crafting would be a natural addition to this kind of game. Unfortunately, it's not executed well which makes it more annoying than something positive. IMO of course.

It looked fun at first, but tbh I hate it now and it’s probably the main reason I don’t play for more than an hour a day. It gets bothersome and takes away from the experience. Don’t even get me started on tools breaking so quickly. Even golden tools break....

I think it’s implemented pretty well, and fits perfectly with the deserted island theme. But you can just buy everything at nook’s cranny if you don’t like making things for free

PaperLuigi3 - You could buy some of the more commonly-needed flimsy tools right from the start, without having to wait until you get Nook's Cranny to open up.

Anyway, I haven't found this mechanic bothersome personally, and I really enjoy the fact that some of the furniture has to be made - it's fun to find a DIY recipe late in the day, after the shops have already shut for the night, and be able to make it right then and there if you have the materials on-hand or have the Nook Miles to take a quick trip to go and find them.

As for the tools, if I'm in a hurry I'll stock up on pre-made ones from the Nooklings before I do anything, and if not all of the materials are guaranteed to fall into my hands as I'm doing my daily rounds anyway, so it's never been a big problem for me. Alternating between these, I rarely run out of tools, now.

I do not have New Horizons yet but, the problem of having to craft everything was something I did not like from when I found out about it.

Is it true that, even the gold tools can break in this game ? I am surprised by how negatively people on this site at least have received the game and if it was true about gold tools breaking then, I am really wondering whether it would be worth spending so much money on this game.

Another question - how many 'every day items' can you get without having to craft them ? Right now, it looks like to me that this game is more like Minecraft than an Animal Crossing game. Someone please correct me if I am wrong here but - as far as I can understand it, at least half of the items in this game somehow involve in crafting, whether you use them to make something or they are what you make.

"I am surprised by how negatively people on this site at least have received the game"
"then, I am really wondering whether it would be worth spending so much money on this game."
It's worth keeping in mind that fan-sites tend to be echo-chambers that contain only the tiniest fraction of a series' sales-base and they are not always reflective of the majority's opinion about a product or a series, because fan-sites by their nature attract the more hardcore fans.

I've seen it said that if there are people on Animal Crossing fan-sites disliking the game, then it must mean that everyone does, but that's not how it works - the game has already sold millions, and there are, what, a few scores to a few hundred active on sites like this? And to boot, it's only natural for the voices with complaints to feel inclined to be louder than those who are satisfied (though in cases like this I am always unsure if they are using Nintendo's official feedback channels to voice this so that there's a chance of it being addressed, or are just effectively talking into the wind on fan-sites due to dissatisfaction with a purchase even though a fan-site cannot address it).

That is not to say that the complaints being raised about the game on fan-sites are invalid - they are valid, and though I am satisfied with the game I do share a few of them. But I would suggest looking far and wide to gather a more complete range of opinions on whether the game is worth your money. There are various YouTube channels and I'm guessing Twitch streams where you can see the game being played so that you can see the gameplay-loop for yourself.

Was crafting not in every other AC game? I've only played Pocket Camp and it just feels natural to me. I just wish there was an easier way to get more recipes. I need more tables! Henry's house is so much nicer than mine, and I have 3 rooms. I just want a full kitchen and nice table furniture.

It was in New Leaf, but not to this extent. We never had to repair tools except for the axe. Really, I’ve grown used to it, but honestly it’s just the tools that irk me.

One thing that has helped me enjoy crafting more was creating an outdoor crafting studio. I have tables with materials on them so I don’t have to run into my house all the time for storage and can quickly access what I want. The only negative is that there is a possibility that having these crafting materials sitting on tables could potentially affect town rating. It’s made crafting so much smoother though and a more enjoyable process. I’d recommend if you’re finding it to be bothersome.

Like Brownjoe said, Ive made a little crafting area outside my home and I always make sure to have some chopped wood layed there for me to use in case I run out in my pockets. Also got some stone and iron there too. I even decorated it with a tool shelf and wheel barrel to make it cute lol

Once nook's cranny gets upgraded you can buy the second level tools. So there's that. I don't mind the crafting aspect too much, but I would hope the gold tools are worth the effort. I know they are breakable and have heard the use limit on them isn't crazy high. If the gold tools had something like a 1000 use till break threshold then it's fine. I would like to see them get patched to be that way. I'm also saying this as someone who has played 665 hours of Minecraft on the switch so I'm kinda use to it.

I think it's fun for seasonal items and some of the basic starter items. My biggest issue with Pocket Camp was that resources were very limited but you could pay to avoid waiting. There is no "pay to win" in AC:NH and the only resource that is significantly limited outside of the start of the game is gold so that alone makes it much better than Pocket Camp.

Tools breaking is extremely annoying. I wouldn't mind if they lasted a few hundred uses each but even the regular tools break way too easily. The watering can is what gets me the most. I have a somewhat small area where I try to grow hybrids and it takes over 1 watering can per day to get them all. I'm more than doubling it so I know it's going to take 3-4 per day. I could see something like fishing rods breaking more often but going through 4 watering cans per day is silly.

"it's implemented perfectly"

It's not perfect. If it was 'perfect' no one would be complaining about it. Any argument against it would be flawed. I am seeing a lot of pretty valid complaints from old players, new players, frequent players, players who play infrequently, TTs etc.
