I think crafting is a great addition, when it comes to furniture at least. As for tools, it was kind of neat as your island was starting out rather than have everything available to you, but after the first week or so I'm already tired of tools breaking. It just becomes tedious. I'll be watering flowers on a cliff and then my watering can breaks.. . and then I have to go craft or buy another one, then customize to the color I like .
I think if tools are going to break, from a gameplay perspective, it should be for something that makes sense - has risk/reward involved. In old games it was just the axe that would break, and it gave us incentive to get a golden axe/ silver axe (meanwhile golden tools break in this game too, which is absurdity imo )
example: It would make more sense if your fishing rod breaks from trying to catch a large shark and it breaks free or something to that degree. But my watering can shouldn't poof into existence because I'm watering my flowers lol
I am hoping they patch this out or update how the system works in some way, personally. For all the streamlining and much needed QOL improvements this sequel makes for the series, tools breaking isn't something I thought fans wanted or find fun to have to worry about over and over .
it's nintendo. I doubt they'll change anything (they already got our money after all) but I can hope they do or at the very least add a tool recipe for something that never breaks. Breakable objects seems to be a trend for them lately though so... (Loz Botw anyone?)
Breath of the wild's gameplay is very different from what animal crossing is about (or should be at least)
It worked in Zelda because the game felt like a survival and resource management game, ie you could be left defenseless if you didn't come prepared to a fight etc.
Animal Crossing however, has more of a laid back core to it. I don't think it's fun to have to stop what I'm doing to go make another tool. It halts the gameplay flow to me and becomes "work" rather than "play"
It's a feature and not a bug. Like someone else said, I think it's more likely a difficult to craft, unbreakable tool might be introduced at some point.
I like it though, it presents an interesting challenge compared to previous titles.
There's even a miles reward for the number of broken tools, I don't see them phasing that out. I keep a DIY station in my pocket so I can craft on the spot when something breaks. For now I'm just sticking to flimsy equipment until I complete the miles rewards for breaking tools. Only about 60 to go, should be done with that by the end of this week.

I don't see durability being patched, as molamola said its the intended design, but I could see them increasing the durability of normal/golden tools provided there's the right amount of fan pushback (i.e Japanese fans complain)

I do hope that everyone who has these complaints has actually sent them to Nintendo, since they won't be seeing them if they're only posted on forums and social-media platforms.
The workings of Nintendo's feedback system are documented here in the memoirs of the man who originally created it, and from my own interactions with Nintendo's customer service staff, who will freely tell you that your comments have been added to what they now call a game's "feedback file", we know that the feedback system still works the same to this day.
So, anyone who's hoping to see future patches address your gripes, please make sure that you drop Nintendo a polite, well-written message via whatever means they offer in your country. That will increase the chance of the relevant people actually seeing and being able to consider your feedback.
yeah like others have said, I doubt they'll patch it out, but I could definitely see them adding a special unbreakable tool in the future. what I do now is just make a few tools at a time. if I'm going out to chop wood, I'll make five stone axes, because I know it takes about four and a half to harvest all the trees in my town. if I'm fishing, I keep an extra rod or two in my inventory. nets and slingshots I just let break because I don't use them often enough for it to be an annoyance, and shovels I customize first thing in the morning to reset the uses, and that will usually last me through the day unless I'm doing some gardening

Gonna add this for the time being, customizing your tool restores durability as it is technically a new item. Do with that information whatever you'd like
Customising can help circumvent making new tools for sure, but there's still some caveats; -afaik golden tools cannot be customised, so this tactic is only worthwhile for normal tools. Even then, you still can't customise any kind of the axes -You have to keep track of your durability, which is a nightmare. -You have to either keep customiser material on you or dump it at various workbenches, and the material is pretty expensive in large quantities.

It's not supposed to be a be-all, end-all solution by any means, it's just very convenient to use 1 single customization kit compared to different woods and iron that could be better used crafting other items. It's at least giving me less to think about; I dont even count my durability, I just customize whenever I feel like changing it up, and with the special tools Timmy and Tommy sell its actually quite refreshing!
Odds of them patching out tools breaking? Almost zero.
Odds of them releasing DLC (free or paid) which includes "platinum tools" that never break, especially in another year or two once the initial players have already settled? Much more likely.
I’m very disappointed that golden tools break, I mean, then what’s the point of getting golden tools??? Now for the regular tools, it’s quite easy to get the materials and make a new one, no problem. The watering can? It lasts a lot for me, and if you change the color the duration resets

Have a fantastic day
I like the ideas of there being "premium" level tools to be patched in at some time in the future, and the idea of having a warning when your tool is near breaking. I dislike carrying redundant tool on island tours, but don' t want to keep crafting them, and gathering supplies very often.

-3 hours difference from ACC time
i'm semi-early on. The ones I use alot I just craft 1-2 extras, put them in storage and wait until they break. Even with me using things like the shovel it takes 2-3 days to break one but I can go through 3-4 fishing rods. Mostly I'm still just busting axes like the old games..
Another thing I haven't tried is just to count the number of uses and upgrad it when it's about to break. I'm way too lazy to do this myself

Currently wanted for New horrizons: (let's trade)
(stuff comming soon)
I hope they fix or change how long the tools last. The game is suppose to be relaxing but it's not when the tools break all the time.
One thing that bugs me is bring our own tools to the mystery islands. I wished they worked like ACNL. Arrive on the island and borrow the tools that you unlocked. Make them not breakable. Each time I go to the island I have to make new tools so they don't break while there.
Each time I go fishing for a rare fish I usually go thru 4 to 6 fishing rods each night. It takes 6 stone axes to harvest all the wood. I stopped harvesting and only get it when I need it now. I also fish less than ACNL.
I read about the gold tools and hope the fishing and net don't break. If it's a recipe for gold fishing and net that would be sad. The tools wouldn't be special anymore if other players that didn't earn them can get them from another player.
If breaking tools remain in the game I hope they add stacking. 5 stone axes taking up one spot would be nice.
I wish the developers would explain why they went with all breakable tools.
My issue with it is how it destroys the experience as a whole. AC is not Zelda. It is meant to feel like a vacation where you can relax and do whatever you want to do at exactly the pace you want to do it. When you throw in tools that break every 20 minutes (and yes, I'm talking about the normal ones, not the flimsy), it takes away from the relaxation for no reason at all. NONE. All it does is forces you to stop what you're doing and craft new items, which is a good 5 minutes if you have to gather the materials and craft it. To make it worse, you cannot bulk craft and have to do it one at a time, from scratch (meaning you can't craft the normal rod from the get-go).
To answer your question, you can almost take it to the bank that the game will barely be touched at all in terms of updates (besides a few character and facility additions and holiday events). Don't believe me? Look at their other games. People have been wanting more games on the SNES/NES Online, yet it launched with only NES titles. To make it worse, the games they add regularly to it are garbage, despite the fans begging for more. Additionally, look at Luigi's Mansion 3. Many people have been begging for Nintendo to add in the function of having an inverted control option, yet it never came. If something as simple as that hasn't been updated, don't think that Nintendo will change face and listen to the fans here. They don't give a crap about their fans, as long as they get their money.
New horizons is made from the same team as the Splatoon series - which received countless updates for multiple years - both content additions and QOL improvements , so I have faith.
I HATE THE TOOLS BREAKING TOO Why?Why?Why? Gold Tools break? Why make them? If they break Sure they last longer But use your gold nuggets and they are ugly compared to cute ones in shop. The so called extra pocket space only good to haul extra tools you will need not the excitement of having space for items to sell Well I'm through gripping now
