So, I'm having trouble figuring out what my native flower is? I understand that the flowers that grow on the cliffs in your island are considered "native", but aren't they also supposed to appear often on your mystery islands as well? I've only ever seen hyacinths on them, even when I found the hybrid island! The flowers that grown on my cliffs are pansies, and both pansies and hyacinths are sold in Timmy's every day, along with windflowers. Basically, does anyone else have a similar experience? Hyacinths are also the type of seeds Nook gave me in the beginning of the game, if that makes any difference.

If this is something that others are noticing as well, I'm wondering if we have two native flowers - one of the "old" and one of the "new"?

your native flower is pansies.

the same thing happened to me. my native flower is windflowers, but the seeds I was given and all the islands I've been to have had tulips. in the shop, I mostly get windflowers, tulips and pansies

I've seen people talk about similar things with fruit. you have your native fruit, your mom sends you a second fruit, and a third type will sometimes be on the islands

I forgot to mention, one day in the shop I was able to get tulip seeds, so I think once in a while you'll be able to get other seeds but it sounds like we have three "common flowers" at the start of the game.

yeah I got a fourth kind of flower in my shop today. I forget what it was because it had a long name, but it was definitely not in the old games. looking forward to seeing what they look like grown! but yeah, I think you're right that we have three common flowers, one of which is your native flower
