I don't think anyone posted about Gulliver yet. He appears on the beach like normal. It showed in my screen before the day started. He asked for 5 communicator parts buried on the beach. These parts are found where the manilla clams are. So just did where the water squirted from.

Day #2 I’ve noticed a fire/gold looking movement on top of the grass. If you use your shovel to dig it up, you’ll receive 1000 bells.

I have unlocked blathers and I have upgraded my tent to a house. I assume you will see it after you unlock those milestones.

When you meet a villager at the deserted island you can convince them to move to your island! The next day, Tom Nook will ask you to gather the materials to build a bridge, and after he will give you the kit to build the villager's home.

Once you place the kit for the villager, you have to gather three interior and exterior items and place them at the villager's home. Once that is complete, then you can see what villager is moving in there.

Sherb is moving to my island

Looks like former storage furniture and some other furniture will let you change your outfit when you interact with it. So far my refrigerator and cooler box do that. Nothing like seeing a bubble with "A refrigerator... Should I change?" Looks like the inventory is tied to wearables on you and in your storage.

I'm going to infodump quite a bit here -- due to certain circumstances, I've had a lot of time at home to play!

General Walkthrough
On your first day, give Tom Nook 5 things you've caught. This will unlock Blathers to want to set up a tent. Place Blathers' tent. The next day, Blathers will be there. He will give you the recipe for the pole vault. Give him 15 unique items (fish, bugs, fossils) to have him open the museum. Unfortunately once you've given him that he stops taking donations the rest of the day, and the following day, the museum will be completely closed for renovations... By the way, one very nice feature they added is that your character will go "Yes!" when catching something you've never caught before. Also, you can store your fish and bugs and fossils, literally almost anything as far as I can tell, outside by selecting it in your inventory and selecting "Place Here." (I'm not sure if there are any negative impacts for storing junk outside. No one seems to mind my beach being full of fish, bugs, and fossils, though.)

On your second day in the game. one of the Nookling twins will tell you he wants to open a store. (You may need to have gotten Blathers the previous day? I'm not sure on that.) You'll need to give him 30 of each type of wood (wood, softwood, hardwood) and 30 iron nuggets. The next day when you visit the store, you'll see Mabel. This triggers her to start sometimes visiting your island. (Guides say that after you spend 5,000 bells with her visiting, the Able Sisters shop will open. I haven't yet been able to verify that myself.)
Once you've done that, talk to Tom Nook and he will give you the DIY recipe for a bridge construction kit.
Create the bridge kit, place it over a spot of river, then go back to talk to him. Next, you'll place 3 houses. Each house will have 6 items you need to craft for it (3 indoor items and 3 outdoor items). When you've placed the second, which requires a Windflower Wreath, he will give you the recipe for the ladder. For me, the items were: Wooden Simple Bed, Wooden Chair, Classic Pitcher/ Log Garden Lounge, Log Stool Water Pump // Wooden-Block Stereo, Wooden-Block Table, Windflower Wreath / Iron Garden Chair, Iron Garden Table, Birdhouse // Apple Chair, Juicy-Apple TV, Pot / Stone Stool, Stone Table, Clothesline.
It seems like only one house is built per day, so it will likely take 3 days for construction to finish.

Loans
Your first loan is paid in 5,000 Nook Miles. Your second is 98,000 bells if I remember correctly, and then I think the next one is 198,000. Paying off the first one upgrades your tent into a house, which unlocks the storage and I believe decorator mode. (I don't remember for sure that wasn't available in the tent...) The next two expand the one-room house.

Fish
Note that I live in the Northern Hemisphere. Current active hours are for March. Also the encyclopedias now have a really nice feature where you can check if something has already been donated to your museum when the cursor hovers over it!

* Joy (given by an animal)
* Delight (unlocked by default)
* Greetings (unlocked by default)
* Surprise unlocked by default)
There is initially space for a total of 8 reactions, but based on Nook Miles, it seems we must unlock a different way to store them...

DIY Recipes
Ways to Find
* Many basic recipes are unlocked through the general walkthrough steps
* I've read that if you talk to your villagers when you've been stung by a bee, you get the medicine recipe
* Dig up a Manila Clam to get the bait recipe
* Each type of fishing trash (I've caught an old tire, a boot, and an empty can) seems to have an associated "recycling" recipe that turns it into something that can be sold for profit. Your character will get the idea for the recipe the first time you catch them.
* Some recipes can be bought from Timmy/Tommy.
* Every day(?), a bottle will wash up on shore with a recipe inside. I've found these on Nook Miles islands too.
* Better quality tools are unlocked through redeeming Nook Miles.

Craft Materials
* Branches can be found dropped from trees, or by shaking the trees. As far as I can tell, you can get an unlimited number of branches from each tree, if you have the patience to shake it over and over again.
* Wood, softwood, and hardwood are dropped from trees when you chop them with an axe. (The flimsy axe does not seem to carry risk of chopping down the tree.) 3 types of wood will be dropped per tree per day.
* Stone, clay, and iron nuggets (as well as one bell rock a day) can be found from hitting the rocks with your shovel. You can get up to 8 drops per rock, so I would recommend making the V to keep yourself from bouncing back.
* Flowers can be gathered daily. So far I haven't gotten any flowers aside from the 3 types that you start off with.
* Weeds can now be picked up and sold or used for crafting.
* Manila clams can be used for bait.
* Bee hives can now be used to make medicine.
* Certain recipes require fruit. I've unlocked needing apples for the Apple TV and Apple Chair. I'm not sure if they do different recipes for those whose native fruit is not apples.
* If you've run out of a type of daily-limited material, you can use Nook Miles to go to a randomly generated deserted island. The trees and rocks will all drop the same things as your island (anecdotally I've actually gotten more iron from those islands but I'm not sure if that's coincidence) and there seem to always be weeds and flowers. They also seem to all have coconuts and either one type of fruit tree or bamboo.

Special Items
* Switch Online subscribers can go to the eShop to get a free DLC rug. You must be actually subscribed and not using a free trial. The rug can then be purchased at the catalog/ABD machine.
* You can get a variety of ACPC items in your ACNH game by connecting the two. Have your Nintendo account connected to both (you will need to have Switch Online to do this unfortunately). In ACPC, go to the My Nintendo Rewards thing and click on the free ACNH collaboration items reward. This will give you ACPC character 50 leaf tickets and generate a code. Enter that code into the eShop. You may need to close ACNH if you were playing and then relaunch it? The items can then be purchased at the catalog/ABD machine.

You have a town flower in addition to town fruit. When you start building houses, DIY recipes reflect them both! (i.e. My main town has orange and lilies, and I got recipes for orange end table, orange wall-mounted clock, and lily wreath; I just visited a friend who has peach and cosmos, and she had a peach chair and cosmos wreath.)

More than one comment when catching critters?! Every time I catch a squid it says something like "Does it not go 'bloop'?" But I just visited a friend, and there I got a comment like "I had an inkling!"

Great. Now I'm going to be paying attention every time I catch something.

"More than one comment when catching critters?! Every time I catch a squid it says something like "Does it not go 'bloop'?" But I just visited a friend, and there I got a comment like "I had an inkling!""
I believe Squids are the only critter (that we know of) to have multiple comments, and the reason for this is that its a reference to Splatoon.
The 3rd thing your character can say when catching a squid is "I caught a Squid! It's off the hook!" which is a more on the nose reference compared to the "I had an inkling I'd catch one!" comment.

Riesz - the same thing happened to me, I have caught multiple squid and definitely seen both of these comments without really thinking, perhaps it depends on the time of day?

Also, I can confirm, it may have taken me nearly 5 hours (with perhaps a 30 minute break to eat dinner) but the Coelacanth is still caught during rain. I was literally about to give up and it was going to be my last reel so I was in complete shock and cannot really remember but I'm pretty sure the shadow was large but not massive like the oarfish shadow, I was pretty convinced it was going to be another Sea Bass.

Hah, thanks, zanemc and bl0nde_queen. I came back to comment that I'd just now got "It's off the hook!" Guess that's that.

*edit: Oh, that's right, doesn't Hisashi Nogami also do Splatoon? Yep, makes sense if this is the only critter to get multiple comments.

The 3rd House Expansion Loan is 348k bells and unlocks you a rear room.

Additionally it seems every house renovation gives you 20 more storage spaces. (The first one being 80, then 100, 120 etc)

Misc. Info
* I've confirmed that the catalog only shows color variations that you have OBTAINED
* I got a gold nugget from hitting a rock
* You can plant a money tree, like back in ACGC
* The museum does not appear to have space for artwork? I'm not sure if this is unlocked later, or simply not included.
* I found 2 furniture items and 4 beehives in my trees today; I think this is the same as what I found yesterday
* Expansion #3 is a back room (so it goes tent into house, then bigger room --> bigger room --> back room). 348,000 bells is the cost.
* I found a rusted part in the recycling bin. I'm guessing this is in some way related to Gulliver's visit yesterday since it resembles the communicator parts you collect for him. I haven't yet found if there is any use for these.
* I've yet to find anything but Manila Clams from digging at the beach (aside from Gulliver's communicator parts).

Tom Nook eventually has you building new plots, but it looks like if you hadn't accidentally happened to ask 3 animals to move, you'll get randoms. The DIY recipes seem to also reflect the animals and can vary. (With the exception of the ladder, that's guaranteed.)

Looks like Harvey shows up after completing building new plots.

*edit: I just found out you can place a wreath on your door by selecting the wreath when you're outside. I was just gonna drop it to make room. Also forgot wreaths on doors is a thing now.

MooMaster: Not quite. I have the 2nd upgrade, owe 198,000 bells, and 120 storage spaces.

Tarantulas spawn on those random islands. I managed to travel to one with bamboo, and while I was gathering stuff, I saw an emperor butterfly. So I whip out my net, charge over and snag it. Then turn back to resume gathering when a tarantula hopped up, charged and knocked me out!

Totally wish I'd snapped what Wilbur said when I came to. Something about canceling a ground pound, I think.

(Not even a novice at catching tarantulas. As long as I see them, they're an easy snag. )

Also, eating fruit not only allows you to dig up whole trees, it also allows you to destroy rocks. I'm too chicken to try it on my island, but I often do this on the random islands. So far only stones.

"Also, eating fruit not only allows you to dig up whole trees, it also allows you to destroy rocks. I'm too chicken to try it on my island, but I often do this on the random islands."
They do respawn at the beginning of the day, but you get so few resources that it's barely worth it for the hassle. I believe there are some bugs that you can only find by breaking rocks, though - at least the pill bug and centipede, and possibly more. Just hitting the rock they're under didn't seem to work, I had to actually destroy it.

Another minor feature I haven't seen anyone mention yet: Once your house is built, you can interact with the windows to open or close the curtains. This subtly changes the lighting based on the direction the window is pointing and the time of day.

You can definitely get those without destroying anything (I had forgotten which rocks I had checked, yesterday, and hitting three of them sent out three centipedes in a row, followed by a couple of pill-bugs as well) - it sounds like you were just unlucky, this time.

That is cool - thanks very much for that!

Don't know if it was mentioned but going back in time even for a few hours unwaters your flowers.

I did get my first flower hybrid of a pink tulip from a red tulip and a white tulip.

For the Shooting Stars:

The first night this happened none of the villagers told me about it. When the stars go shooting by you have to have empty hands and look up at the sky to wish on the star.

The next morning my beach was covered with Star Fragments. No DIY recipe yet..

The second night! ( I know..) My villager Plucky told me to watch out for shooting stars. That night guess what.. SHOOTING STARS...again. (I'm not complaining!)

The next morning my beach was covered in Star Fragments again.. but with Aries Fragments! Still no DIY recipe..

Also you can get a DIY recipe in a bottle msg for creating a seashell rug. You need 3 giant clams to complete!

Speculation:

Museum has two staircases to a second floor that just had benches. Looks like the museum may be upgraded in the future? Either for paintings or maybe stargazing like with wild world.

Oh another thing! I lost save data. When playing with my gate open, but no one in town, I caught a new bug, then put my switch into sleep mode almost immediately or a few seconds after. When I opened it up again I was walking out of the dodo airlines building. No bug in my pocket nor on my caught bugs list.

^I lost a little bit of save data too, but don’t remember the circumstances.

Today I discovered that with the arrival of Nook’s Cranny there is an attached drop box where one can sell outside store hours.
