To be honest, it was kinda on the way out anyway. A lot of major companies don't bother going to it any more, on the basis that they can release information just as effectively with online announcements. Even Nintendo does Directs instead, although they're still E3-branded and timed to coincide with it. So I don't think there's likely to be an E3 in 2021 either, regardless of whether or not the pandemic ends before then.

Apparently they've been telling partner developers they won't be announcing anything but you're right that that isn't confirmation. However I'd rather err on the side of caution than get my hopes up as it would make sense for them to delay.

It sounds remarkably similar to the original rumour from the report that I linked to (NintendoSoup link above, Twitter link here, which contains screenshots taken from elsewhere - I presume ResetEra or similar, since the rumourmonger in question is known to comment there). The fact that Venturebeat fails to cite a source makes me wonder if it's come from the same place.
Again, not doubting it - it's logical that the pandemic has messed all of this up, so I already wasn't expecting anything in the first place. I just prefer to know where the information is coming from if possible.
I was watching a couple unrelated Paper Mario videos earlier and they also just said casually like we all already heard about it "Oh yeah and we all know Nintendo said they won't have any directs from June-July", I think to a point some people are freaking out cause Nintendo and AAA companies do their usual way, then they suddenly did it different with no warning by giving us the Paper Mario trailer, and a close release date. I think the pandemic easily has something to do with it and it's nothing to fret over. But personally, and I'm sure most of us feel this way, I wanna know what's coming!!! Even if I have to wait 9 months!!
