I've pre-ordered the Animal Crossing themed Nintendo Switch, so the digital copy.
I had physical copies on my 3DS but I much prefer the idea now of having all of my games downloaded and ready to go digitally. Particularly with New Horizons, because I'll play it every day and won't want to be without it!
Does anyone know if I buy a digital for my Switch but my brother uses a digital copy on a different Switch (but we use the same Nintendo account) if they will get mixed up? I've never gotten a digital copy before but definitely want to this time around so I can start on Friday.

It's not possible to buy more than one copy of a digital game on a single Nintendo account. Also, if you have a single Nintendo account registered to two different Switches, it's not possible to play the same (digital) game simultaneously on both Switches. I would recommend that you and your brother move to having two separate Nintendo accounts if at all possible.
"I had every intention of getting physical copies. However, due to corona virus running wild in my area I canceled my pre-orders and decided to go digital."
After much prevaricating, I've done the same - mostly because, on account of quarantine measures, I don't actually know right now what address I'm going to be at on Friday! So the only option to be sure of getting it in the right place is a digital download. It's definitely a shame - I much prefer physical games - but in this case there isn't really a way around it.

When I preorder games, I usually get digital since that means I'll get it before most physical owners in my region. But if I'm just buying a game after it releases, I prefer to buy it physically, since I like to showoff my cases on my shelf lol. I might buy the box to New Horizons just to display, but I probably won't buy a second copy. Since unlike other games, you can only have one island on your system.
I believe one of the most valuable lessons that comes with growing up is
gaining the wisdom that gently informs you when it's time to retire a meme.
"I've seen a rumor that in order to play the digital version of the game you need to connect to the Internet every few hours. Is there any merit to that?"
You might be thinking about the restriction for people who own multiple Switches connected to the same Nintendo account. I haven't tried this myself (like most people, I only own one Switch), but my understanding is that, if you are currently playing a digital game on a Switch other than your "primary Switch", you need to connect to the Internet when you open the game and every few hours thereafter. This is a restriction meant to stop you from playing the same digital game on multiple Switches at once.
As far as I know, there's no general restriction on playing digital Switch games offline, and I haven't heard any rumours about one being added for AC:NH. Nor do I think it's at all likely that Nintendo would add one.

I wanted to get physical, but my state is beginning to really crack down on COVID-19 and I'm wondering if GameStop will be closed by Friday. If that's the case, I'll go digital. As much as I'd prefer to have the game physically, I also don't want to wait who-knows-how-long for stores to open back up.
I'm honestly surprised Nintendo hasn't moved the release date up yet. Surely, sales will be down if everything is on lock-down by Friday?
stephxgeode on Nookazon!
Feel free to PM me about my listings!
^^ that would make so much sense, especially with their recent update it looks like they're getting ready?! Also apparently Amazon is holding back shipments on non-essential items which would reeeeeally suck.
Since we have a shelter in place in my county I decided I'd just go ahead and get the digital copy. Especially since my GameStop didn't pick up the phone today (when I called to find out if they'd be open somehow for the release, they told me to call back today and if nobody picked up to assume they were closed. Can't argue with that solid logic! )
I was given a digital code for my birthday, and I am so glad. I am currently stuck in a place where I didn’t expect that I would be at this point in time (the home of my soon-to-be ex-husband...and well, we’ve run out of polite small talk), and the stores around here are shutting down left, right, and center. I am going to need my ACNH just to cope until I can skiddadle on out of here early next week. The game is already preloaded for me. I am chomping at the bit.
...looking for other grown up gamers, please...
I'm getting Physical just cause it's my preference. Though now I'm incredibly envious of those getting to play this evening haha. I was originally going to just pick the game up, but my town is in a shelter-in-place. So luckily it is scheduled to arrive tomorrow still.
