Anybody use the free trial of Disney+ to binge this show?!
Obviously, it hasn't been released outside NA yet, so please *avoid big spoilers* but I thought it would be fun to discuss overall impressions of the show and how it fits into the Star Wars Universe.
Personally, I was a bit hesitant when I heard the concept (never been a big Boba Fest fan) and wasn't even sure I wanted to watch it. My husband, however, was quite keen and my kids were curious enough since we'd watched Clone Wars, so we decided to give it a go. I was instantly hooked! Santa brought our family lots of Mando t-shirts and I'm seriously contemplating what merchandise I want to preorder!

I got Disney+ when it came out, so I didn't get to binge it, I had to wait weekly with temptation (and it was tough! )
The first episode was very cool. I had no idea anything about the series, and I actually thought that the main character was Boba Fett himself, I was intentionally avoiding reading any plots/watching trailers/etc. since they tend to give a lot away these days. So once I saw "The Child" at the end, I was completely shocked.
Episode 2 was very boring to me, and after I watched it, I questioned if the rest of the series would be just as slow. I wonder how many people watched the first one, thought it was interesting, then got so bored with the second that they just gave up with the series entirely.
Episode 3 more than made up for it, though. The final scenes in that episode were exactly what I wanted from a live action Star Wars series, and they delivered handsomely.
The rest of the episodes were a mix of "very good", "great", or "fantastic". I'm very excited for Season 2... which isn't coming out til fall
I also got Disney+ on launch, as well! My poor kids were in agony having to wait for new episodes; my husband and I were most unsympathetic.
I think what we were most pleasantly surprised at was that a rather predictable format could still result in such riveting shows. I can’t wait for the next season.

I assume everyone’s seen the Season 2 finale, if not, stop reading, spoilers below!!!!

Okay, that should be enough.
How soon did you all realize it was Luke that had arrived? Once Cara said “One X-Wing? Great, we’re saved” the thought crossed my mind, but I also had no idea what ship Ahsoka, Ezra, or any other Jedi flew since I never watched the Clone Wars. It wasn’t until I saw the gloved hand that I was ready to accept that it was really him. What a great finale!
Now that my positivity is over with, time for the more cynic approach: Once the Book of Boba was revealed, I assumed that that would be what Season 3 would be about, but no, that’s apparently entirely separate, and Season 3 will continue the Din storyline. The only other plot thread is the dark saber, and having a third season just about that seems odd. From my point of view, Moff Gideon wasn’t killed, yet Mando is now the rightful owner of the dark saber; so the hinted plot that Din now had to die to lose his claim to it is illogical. Not really a good enough plot to carry a season, unless they choose to just ignore that tidbit of info and make it a life-or-death mission, which would be a mistake IMO.
Also, the huge amount of series/films Disney is making really gives me concern about the future of Star Wars. Mandalorian was its own piece, with Season 1 introducing many cool characters that would later return to help Mando. Season 2 introduced characters, too, but it seems like it was all just to give them spin-offs later. I don’t want the Mandalorian to just become a series of soft-pilots for new series. When Ahsoka mentioned Thrawn, for instance, I thought that Thrawn would end up being the one to capture Grogu, or that Thrawn was helping Moff Gideon. But no, apparently that was just a teaser for the Ahsoka series that they’re making, and it had no relevance to anything that I was watching. Wonderful!
Din’s character arc ended beautifully in Season 2. I really hope they don’t mess it up.
