The Top Bells list is a fantastic feature, but it runs into a problem when multiple users have the same number of bells. At the time that I'm writing this, for example, JQ124870 and rainyday13 each have 475,400 bells, which ties them for 508th place*. This is displayed correctly, but it messes up everything below it. Currently, lindseyms3ds is listed at rank 509, which of course is impossible - JQ124870 and rainyday13 are tied for both 508th and 509th place, so someone with a different number of bells than them, as lindseyms3ds does, cannot also be in 509th place. Lindseyms3ds should be in 510th place, which means that the person below her should be in 511th place - but is listed at rank 510. Obviously, everything below this is then wrong for the same reason.
This certainly isn't something that needs to take high priority, but if it's reasonably easy to fix then it would obviously be good to make the list accurate.
*At least as far as I know. If there are more ties higher up on the list that I didn't notice, then this is also incorrect.
Yes, I did try to explain this back when the Top Bells list was being developed, but nothing came of it Someone used DENSE_RANK() instead of RANK() somewhere in the database, I guess. I kind of hoped nobody would notice.
Unfortunately we have literally zero developer hours to spend on the old site except for serious security issues, because everyone is working flat out on the new site in the hope of having a chance of finishing it before AC:NH's release. Your best shot is to hope Freakie (who is the only one of us to still own a computer old enough to run the old site's code) gets bored and decides to blitz through an armful of old bugs.
But I do know how ranks ought to work, yes, and I will ensure that they are calculated properly on the new site.
There's no place like 192.168.0.0/16.
Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you don't know how ranks work. I noticed the issue a few months ago but didn't get around to bringing it up until someone else made a similar mistake and it was justified with "that's how the ACC Top Bells list displays it."
