Quite simply, do you think it will? I remember how utterly obsessed I was with Wild World and New Leaf. I wonder if it will have the same feelings as these two. Don't get me wrong, the trailers have gotten me buzzed. However, I'm kinda over the whole idea of crafting, tents and camping as I have played Pocket Camp for 2 years. I hope I'm not alone in this

The trouble with hype is that hype is subjective and that some folks set their expectations waaaaaay up in the stratosphere, and imagine all kinds of fantasy scenarios about what the game "should" or "will" be like, only to disappoint themselves when they actually get to play it - and they invariably blame "the hype" for that, when it has only come from them.

Things can certainly live up to the hype if one keeps their expectations grounded and reasonable, though. To that end, I'm sure that Animal Crossing: New Horizons will live up to my own personal hype for the title. Others' mileage may vary, however.

That's the question, isn't it? I was skeptical about some of the game's mechanics when they were first revealed at E3, but since then they've grown on me more and more and I've gotten more and more excited. I have to remind myself not to let my expectations grow as high as they did for New Leaf, which I hyped up so much that I was a little disappointed by it even though it ended up as my fourth-favorite game of all time.

I know what you both mean - I've seen a lot of hype for it on Twitter, I just hope some people aren't disappointed. I feel like Nintendo have a lot under their sleeves for the actual game, and we've only seen a small portion of what's on offer. We'll soon see anyway - I still definitely can't wait

Some people will always be disappointed because you can never please everyone.  Hopefully it will just be a small number of people who are disappointed this time.

Maybe it is my age, but I am happy with everything they have announced so far and am not really bothered about anything.  In AC:CF I was disappointed by the lack of animal pictures but this time I don't seem worried about them at all.  Maybe because New Leaf was such a complete game, it was kinda the perfect version that all the predecessors had been leading up to.  I think it might be due to that viewpoint why I am not worried how New Horizons is.  I'm hoping it is like Zelda:BOTW was - still Zelda but a completely different direction from previous games.  I am looking forward to the crafting and building up from scratch.  It makes it different to New Leaf, because honestly that one is just perfect so they needed to do something new.  I enjoy watching the trailers and the treehouse footage as it just all gives off a very relaxing vibe.

I'm just looking forward to curling up on my sofa and wandering around on an island, chatting to the animals,  relaxing after work, not having to think about anything complex, just chill out and enjoy the scenery.

I've hyped myself up a lot, but only over what has been shown, not speculation. Since Wii U, HD Animal Crossing has been a dream I thought would never come true. That alone, has me over the wall.

As far as hype for new mechanics, I am really glad they're changing up the formula. Like Satin23 said, New Leaf felt like the perfect Animal Crossing game, and if they just did the same thing with a prettier coat of paint, I can't say I'd be very excited.

Crafting has become such a big mechanic in this era of gaming and it feels like it really fits into the Animal Crossing mold. Pocket Camp had me a little bit disappointed in the way it was handled there, but the way we'll be gathering materials in this one seems a lot more engaging.

So, in my opinion... it will live up to the hype.
