Hey everyone! Based on the trailers and early game play videos, is there anything that worries you about how the game will be developed? Or what will be included or excluded? It's obviously too early to make any concrete assumptions, but just thought we could have a fun discussion.

I'm honestly not too sure about the crafting. I didn't really like it in Pocket Camp and I'm worried it'll become to tasking.

I'm still concerned about how specifically tools will work. We know that flimsy tools can be crafted, but how do you get better tools? Do you need to craft them, or can they be bought? What about golden (and potentially silver) tools? I hope that they have to be earned, not crafted (or, ugh, given as a reward for buying lots of stuff like a couple of them were in New Leaf).

Yeah that's true, I wonder if they'll incorporate gold and silver nuggets for crafting better tools, maybe even bring in copper. I definitely like the idea of earning them more, its so tedious if you have to craft absolutely everything

I think the thing I'm most worried about is the shops since we have no information on them yet. my biggest fear is that there will be a lot of them, you have to decide where to place them AND you won't be able to move them once placed. if one of those three things is not the case, then I'll be content. otherwise, having to make so many permanent choices will be difficult. I really liked how it was in NL, where there were a bunch of shops to unlock, but most of them were outside of your main town.

normalhealth. Yeah me too! Especially in the beginning of the game when you need time to progress in order to move forward with building, expanding etc.

Chiyoko. I wonder how they're going to incorporate shops. Like it's a deserted island so it makes sense that they won't be there right away, but an animal crossing game with characters needs shops and such to progress. Idk

Another possible issue with the removal of time travel is New Year furniture. Some people might not want to wait 12 years to get a full set of furniture.

I'm also curious how furniture customization will be implemented into the new crafting system. Would Cyrus be the one to customize crafted furniture, or would we do it ourselves?

Has it ever actually been confirmed that time travel will no longer be possible? I'd be overjoyed to see it gone, but I don't know why so many people are saying that it will be, since I haven't heard anything from Nintendo about it.

^I think people are assuming it'll be gone because you can't change the clock on the switch like you could with past consoles. that said, I was recently fiddling around with my settings and found that you can change the clock if you disconnect from wifi.

707penguin - I haven't seen any official comment about it either (and I'm not expecting to, since I don't imagine that they want to officially acknowledge it, somehow), so I can only assume that this conclusion has been drawn due to how time is set via the internet on the Switch.

However, past games have always offered a separate menu to tweak the time (meant more for use-cases such as travelling, I presume, rather than to time-travel), even though the systems that they were on didn't tie setting the system-clock to being connected to the internet.

Time-travel is irrelevant to me (though I know that some use it for research and the like), but in the absence of any official word that I've seen, for now I'm just going to assume that this aspect will stay the same as it's always been. Not everyone connects their handheld consoles to the internet when travelling, for example, and it strikes me as odd that there'd be no option available to temporarily tweak the time even if just for this use-case, which is going to come up with a portable system.

EDIT: And Chiyoko beat me to it.

I'm kind of worried about what kind of achievement/badge system the game will have. I've always loved going after badges but wow was New Leaf's system not my cup of tea. I know animal crossing is supposed to be a slow paced game where you aren't focused on completion and all, but I really hope they actually give us criteria for how to earn badges. New Leaf was so vague which made it so you had to rely on online guides, and you had no way of knowing how close you were to earning a badge. I just worry that they'll use the same system, but since NH seems to be a "refresh" of sorts for the series I have hope.

I'm worried there will be a big element of the game where you can only do something so much in a period of time and then need to wait for the time to reset before doing it more.

Pocket Camp was huge on this. Not unexpected for a mobile game but disappointing. I know it always exists with fruit, gyroids, and fossils but I fear that it will be expanded to many more aspects of the game.

^ I hated that about New Leaf. You start up the game, and you're told "Welp, enjoy your tent, you can't do anything Mayor-y until I do the paperwork. Come back tomorrow!"

Then the next day, "Oh, you need your approval rating up!" You do that, then "Good job, come back tomorrow!"

You come back, decide to make another bridge, have very few Bells, so it takes another day or two... Then you finally pay it off, and you're told "It'll be built tomorrow!" You want to get started on something else, well, "come back tomorrow!"

You enact an ordinance, and it'll "go into effect tomorrow!"

A villager moves in, and there's just a fence, with a "Moving in tomorrow!" Why am I not surprised! They move in, but they're still in boxes, and say "come back tomorrow!" ?!?!

It felt like a never-ending sea of "tomorrows" for those first few weeks. I really hope NH does it better, but I'm not holding my breath...

I hope there will be a shopping town to visit and shop. And of course, pattern layings on the walls and ground.

IF all is going as expected, no major disapointments, I will buy Switch just for this game. I bought two DSXLs when NL was released. That's how much i love ACC games.

My only concern is how replayable the game will be. It certainly looks like they're changing things up with this new title, which is very good for the reason that New Leaf really perfected the whole classic Animal Crossing formula that we're so used to. I hope that this new title will remain fresh for 100s and 100s of hours like New Leaf was for me, even as a veteran player.

I'm super excited and I think content wise the game will do great just like New Leaf did. My only major worry is a slow early game, New Leaf's early game was so boring and took forever to get to the fun stuff and is one of my major reasons for dropping NL after restarting. Otherwise I have no serious concerns for the game, I think it'll turn out great.

All the AC games are slow in the beginning.  I didn't really feel like NL was any different.

Regarding badges, I think that the Nook Miles (or whatever it's called) is taking it's place.

I don't really have any major concerns, other than trying to decide whether my spouse and I are going to share the same town, as we did with previous console versions, or have separate towns like Wild World.  My spouse didn't get a 3DS for New Leaf, so we didn't play that one together.

We can see getting another Switch, even though we didn't get 2 Wiis or 2 GCs.  We'll see.  I don't like how limiting the local co-op play is, and I think the attraction of us both having an island to visit each other and do our own things might outweigh the limited fun of playing in the same town at the same time.

In regard to time travel, I'm guessing there will still be the in-game option to change the time/date for your island.  I always used the system settings in NL, as it let me keep track of the last time I played the game.  I'd leave the game for periods of time after the initial year, so I'd change the time/date to check in and make sure no animals were moving before setting the system to the current date/time in order to play.  So, I'm really looking forward to NH where it sounds like you have more control over whether an animal leaves or stays - or at least more control over where a new animal will set up their house.  That was the main reason I didn't want any residents to leave.  I didn't want to do the whole new villager trick to preview where a new animal was going to move in so I could choose the best location without ruining my town layout.

I beg to disagree, it takes a couple days before you can do anything with your mayor power. Yes you can still pay off your debt and do things like catching bugs or fish but using the one big feature that makes new leaf stand out is stuck behind the permit and such. Nook's jobs in the other games take around 30 minutes max for me and are significantly less intrusive.

That's just my opinion anyways.
