We've all seen the Dodo Airlines seaplane and airport in footage of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, by now.
It's had me wondering, though: Does it mean that we're about to get our first NPC based on an extinct creature?
I can't say that I'd mind that - we already have Tom Nook and the Nooklings who are based on mythical depictions of the real-life tanuki, Kapp'n who's based on the mythological kappa, and the villager Drago who's based on a traditional depiction of a dragon, after all. (Am I missing any others? )
"Julian is a unicorn. Farley is... some kinda gnome? Serena is a fairy. Wisp (and maybe Jack?) is a ghost. Loid the gyroid is based on a ghost statue. There's plenty of fantasy creatures in the game."
I'd forgotten all of these - thanks!
"Farley is... some kinda gnome?"
Yeah, his e-Reader card says that he's a gnome.
"As for extinct ones... yeah you're probably right."
With as many mythical beings as we have, at least it doesn't feel too far-fetched. I really would like to see it.
Though, of course, I'm sure that a consequence of it will be countless hopelessly-written Animal Crossing creepypastas that posit that New Horizons is actually purgatory because an extinct creature flies you to your destination.
we've also got villagers who are robots and teapots and slices of strawberry shortcake. then there's Tucker, an extinct wooly mammoth.
for some reason the idea of a special NPC that's an extinct animal still feels weird to me despite all that. the villagers tend to be way more out-there than the regular special NPCs, who seem to be more normal animals. I'm not gonna complain about it tho, and I'm sure I'll get over it in no time once we actually get to see them (assuming that there will in fact be a dodo character)

I've had so many hopelessly boring neighbours over the years, in every single mainline installment, that I've forgotten that a whole lot of these more interesting ones existed. (It's been tradition that other people I know get all of these neat ones, and I get a whole bunch of really average ones.)
Still, with Tucker in the picture, now a dodo character doesn't seem anywhere near as unusual!
"Bold of you to assume we've seen the new feature. "
Hahahaha! Oh man, that's made my day, thankyou. Honestly, I mulled over how to word that and whether or not to add "If you haven't, it can be seen in XYZ Video and ABC Video.", before I figured that on an enthusiast site it's most likely that most people have seen it or at least heard about it.
