Today's Nintendo Direct featured some brand-new information about New Horizons! What do you all think of it?
Personally, I loved it. The new information alleviated multiple concerns that I had. Among them (and just off the top of my head): -It looks like the bait will be used to make fish appear, not help catch them like I had initially thought. This is a major relief. -Players from the same town playing at the same time no longer all have to have the same tool out, as was originally shown to be the case at E3. Hopefully, this means that the other limitations to local play shown at E3 will also be less harsh.
I loved it! I honestly didn't really expect to get any information out of this direct when Nintendo announced on their twitter that it would be covering 2019 games, but I'm so glad that wasn't the case. I was pleasantly surprised! I noticed that around the 3:59 mark that the player was wearing a little container with the word "fish" on it. I wonder if it will have storage functionality or if its just an accessory
I also noticed that they added more shapes to the grass. That was one of the things that I saw people criticizing the most. Personally I wasn't too affected by the minimalist approach, but it looks much better now than it did back at e3! The night sky looks amazing as well!

Nice eye! I'm also wondering about that now.
For those who missed it, here's a link to the Animal Crossing portion of the event.
Tom Nook did a pretty good job pronouncing "Nintendo Direct viewers" and "I'm Tom Nook." You can sometimes hear them actually saying the words, although it's usually Animalese jabber. I don't remember if this has been in previous versions, except for when you use the number pad.
In the Japanese version, Tom Nook seemed to cut out some syllables, but Bill did a pretty good job voicing his dialogue.

^I noticed that too! it's been in all the games since animalese is generated by reading out all the letters very fast, but in some games it's easier to understand them than others. I always wonder though if the japanese animalese is different. it sounds different to me, but it's hard to tell if that's just because I don't understand japanese so I can't pick out the sounds, or if it actually is different.

I liked the info about the fruit! Using fruit to give yourself some energy to dig up the tree was nice to see. Gives the fruit and maybe other new possible foods more purpose here. I wonder what other things that will allow us to do and use energy towards?
I remember seeing some questions asking about whether Nook's building will be in a randomly generated location or not, and listening to the narrator, it sounds like the resident services building will always be at the center of your island! I assume the sea port will always be at the center bottom as well, kinda like how the train in New Leaf was always at the top of your town.
Also this is like.. a really really small detail DJFKLFJ but it seems like you can change your phone case and I love that Nook first gives the player a green phone (1:12), but a couple seconds later when it is shown again it has a completely different design on it instead of the green! Maybe you can display patterns on it too?
There... there are floating petals in the river during cherry blossom time!
Chiyoko: I would assume it would sound better in Japanese because their written language is very handily phonetic. But I'm so out of practice in listening to the language that it could just be going too fast for me to adequately catch what they're saying.
Listening as carefully as I can, it does sound like Tammy's dialogue in English is better than in Japanese. Also, that part when Tom Nook says, "Oh, it's starting! It's starting!" sounds like jibberish in English, but in Japanese, the bubble says, "Hajimari hajimari~ danamo!" but I keep hearing "Hajimari damo!" Which is still pretty good despite missing one word and one syllable.
...I still have my friend's Japanese 3DS and New Leaf. I should take a closer listen...

I watched the video again yesterday, and I noticed something: At the 3:24 mark, there's an apple icon in the top-left corner with the number 6 next to it. After the player eats an apple, the 6 turns into a 7, and then when the player digs up the tree the 7 turns back into a 6. This indicates that digging up a tree requires one apple's worth of energy, and that you can save up energy by eating several pieces of fruit.
EDIT: Apparently ACC doesn't allow links with ampersands in them, which prevents me from linking to a specific time in the video, so I just linked to the full video.
^I'm pretty sure that is the classic bed, as well as the classic table and maybe a new addition to the classic series. I've noticed that it looks like ALL the old furniture got a bit of a facelift. I've been playing HHD on nearly all my days off since march (only 27/400 houses left to go!) so I've become VERY familiar with all the furniture, and none of it quite looks the same as it did in acnl.
I also noticed that some of acnl's furniture looks pretty blocky compared to everything else, so I think some assets might've been lifted directly from an older game. it looks like nh won't be doing that at all.

The YouTube channel GameXplain has posted up an analysis video of the feature from the September Nintendo Direct.
It doesn't really cover anything that people here haven't already noticed, but they did highlight a few neat little things that I had missed during the Direct, such as neighbours' text-box colours matching the characters' colour-scheme, and sheep characters now wearing sweaters instead of scarves.
Ard why did I think you were talking about the bed in your second point there? you didn't even say the word bed but yes, that classic-looking piece that you were ACTUALLY talking about is in fact new
and the table I'm talking about is the small one next to the plant, not the two-space one in front of the sofa. both the classic bed and classic table look different from their current NL forms. the table you were talking about is also new as well
so yeah I completely botched my reading comprehension on that post whoops

^Honestly I think my problem is, we've had the classic furniture since the very first game, those two pieces especially. And they haven't changed much at all except updated graphics. So my eye just skipped past them, and onto things that look different!
Now, as for Angus's floor and wallpaper...
Floor kinda looks like the chessboard rug? Hard to tell. I think that's always a chessboard layout regardless of room size though. And is black & white, not black & red. So this floor could be new as well! Or a resdesigned old one.
Wallpaper... I feel like I may have seen this one before. Or something similar to it. Looking at the current wallpapers now... nope, can't find it. It may also be new. It looks like several floors we already have, but no wallpapers.

There are tiny differences between the US and Japan versions. Like in the scene in which the player digs up the apple tree, Butch plops himself down on the grass in the US version. In the JP version, he's already sitting and gets up.
It's pretty crazy how closely they tried to match actions, like when the player is talking to Bill, the camera angle and character positions are only a little different. Tammy is a bit farther from her tent in the JP. I watched both videos again much closer (and again ), because the first time I thought they were exactly the same, only with different languages.
Chiyoko: Following up on the spoken Animalese in ACNL. It is definitely better in Japanese. I hear maybe 3% of the English (Flo actually did well with "embarassing"; just missed the first syllable), but more like 20% in Japanese. The short sentences spoken by Booker, Reese, and Leif were especially clear.

Ah, here's something that keeps slipping my mind. You know how in the English version, when the player talks to the Nookling, and stuff for sale comes up, and there's a cardboard box that has a pear motif? It implies you can buy stuff that's already customized through them, doesn't it? So there ought to be apple, cherry, peach, and orange as well, among others (disclaimer: pure speculation). In the Japanese version, the cardboard box looks more like a package ready to be mailed.
(The other furniture item shown is some sort of white table, rather than the campfire stove thing.)

Just popped in to check on any ACNH news. This video has gotten me even more excited! Just the visuals are so much better, esp. the clothing and hairstyles on the characters.
I think one of my favorite things I noticed was actual wind! I was a little disappointed by the increased triangles in the grass, as I liked the more realistic look before. But, it's not too much, so that it doesn't just look like a carpet of triangles (or squares or circles).
I would still like more info on how local play will work. It still seems like we'll have to remain in a relatively small area and can't wander off too far. I suppose they didn't do split screen due to the portable nature of the Switch - though I'll only ever be playing it in my living room on a big TV.
Basically, my hubby and I are trying to decide if we want to share an island or have separate islands (which would require another Switch).

WestonCarrie - I don't know if you've already seen this or not, but they did a fairly lengthy demonstration of how ACNH's single-console multi-player works at E3 back in June. Nintendo uploaded a video of that segment from their E3 live-stream here. I don't think that there's any more that they could possibly show about how it will work, at this point.
Granted, the build used there was earlier in development than what we'll all be getting, but I can't see how they could really change the implementation from how it's presented there.
Yeah...I saw that video. I also saw a more recent video which seemed to show that you no longer have to be holding THE EXACT SAME TOOL while playing together in local play, so that's something that was different from what was originally shown.
But, I guess that's really all that it entails - players limited to a small area of the island. This co-op play just feels too limiting and non-functional to me. For limited play sessions, sure, but when it comes to the way I play, I'm not going to want to have to negotiate with my spouse on what activities we'll do and when.
