Animal Crossing came out in September 2002

Wild World came out 3 years and 2 months later in November 2005

City Folk came out 3 years later November 2008

New Leaf came out 4 years and 7 months later in June 2013

New Horizons is coming out 6 years and 9 months later in March 2020

(these are North American release dates)

I'm sure not everyone feels the same way I do, but to me it's wild that NH has the longest wait of all the games! It definitely doesn't feel like it! I remember the wait for NL felt soooo loooooong, I feel like a significant portion of my life was spent waiting for that game. It came out a few weeks before I graduated high school. NH on the other hand feels like it's right around the corner. sure there's some 200 days left until it comes out, but that's gonna fly by.

idk, it's just weird reflecting on how different time feels while you're living the tedious school life vs more casual part-time employment

It definitely feels like the longest wait to me. I kept waiting and waiting through the Wii U's whole lifespan for a game that never came, and now New Horizons is coming 3 years into the Switch's life cycle. I am so ready for New Horizons, haha.

I think this is the longest wait for me. I started with WW, but I didn't really follow the announcements or anything for CF and NL. They just seemed to happily appear from nowhere. But now I'm actively waiting for NH so it feels a longer wait.

^interesting that I'm kind of the opposite. back when I didn't follow game news, the time between games felt much longer. maybe it's because I didn't really have an understanding of how game release schedules work, and that waiting years is normal. I didn't have anything to put down on my calendar to count down to, so it just felt like once every millennia, nintendo would drop down from the sky and gift the world a new AC game

I think the wait for NL felt particularly long because I found out about it by chance a few weeks after it was announced. that's what really got me into following game news, and I did not expect there to be literal years of waiting.

This will be the first game I got on launch. I technically got City Folk on launch, but I don't really count it because I was 6 when it came out and couldn't conceptualize hype, and it was impulse. New Leaf I got around a year after it came out.

This has definitely been one of the craziest hype trains I've ever been a part of. It's hard to believe that I was refreshing the E3 2018 live thread on Reddit waiting for news over a year ago.

It's also weird looking at it from the perspective of a 17 year old. New Leaf came out a week after I finished elementary school; New Horizons will be coming out a couple of months before I graduate high school.

199 days! New Horizons is going to be cathartic. Pre-ordered the moment I got home from work after E3 2019.

I think I got every main series AC game on launch day except for the first one. (Well, my parents picked up my AC:WW on launch day, and gave it to me for Christmas lol).

But yeah, now that we're all older, time just seems to be... odd. Life is mundane and it goes by without us noticing.

Time during childhood and teen years seemed to go so much slower. One of my best friends growing up lived a few minutes from me and I'd walk to his house. He only lived there 2 years before moving, but in my mind it was way more than 2 years. There's so many memories in those 2 years!

Whereas the past 2 years from today... not much noteworthy. It all blends together.

(Also, NL was released right when I got my first official job I'd play it on my breaks)

The WW release did seem so long, despite me only getting the the first game a year earlier.

I got Wild World in January 2008, New Leaf in June 2014, Happy Home Designer upon release, and I'm getting New Horizons upon release. I wouldn't mind more Switch spin-offs between main games.

"I wouldn't mind more Switch spin-offs between main games."
I wouldn't mind that either. I thoroughly enjoyed Happy Home Designer (though I wasn't interested in Amiibo Festival, and just bought it to get cheap Amiibo when it ended up steeply discounted), and I think that that game alone makes it clear that Animal Crossing is well-suited to spin-offs.

I wonder what they might do, though?

6 years is a long time between games.
For me I don't go by time between games.  I go by the official announcement and ACNL wins.
I remember checking in with the gaming store once a month for any news.  With ACNH we have a 18 month wait.  ACNL we waited 3 long years.
