I haven't picked out a town name yet since I'm holding out to see if we get any info about town names being longer. either way I probably won't seriously start thinking about it until the new year at the earliest. I plan to use my tried and true method of taking inspiration from street names, and I'll probably go with something more tropical sounding to match the island theme (previously my town names have been more forest-y inspired)

I'll probably continue the coffee theme that I have going, although part of me is tempted to name it "Concord" since every time I see "AC:NH" I think "Animal Crossing: New Hampshire," and Concord is not only the capital of New Hampshire but also the only New Hampshire city I know that's under the character limit from previous games.
"every time I see "AC:NH" I think "Animal Crossing: New Hampshire,""
Same, since it's where I live!
Some other town/city names from NH that would fit the character limit are Nashua, Bedford, Derry, Keene, Hampton, Milford, Conway, Laconia, Hanover, Milford, Lincoln, Lebanon, Exeter, Hooksett, Durham, Epping, Windham, Gilford, and Amherst (I'm sure there are even more).
Recently, I have liked naming my Animal Crossing towns after cities/towns/locations from Pokemon games, since I think a lot of them sound really cool. My gamecube town is called Anistar. My AC:NH town might be something like Wisteria, Lumiose, Eterna or Castelia. There are soooo many other cool Pokemon town names (like littleroot or bloomingvale) that are just too long for the character limit

I'll probably go with my tried and true, PitFalls. I'm infamous for hoarding my pitfall seeds and planting them in my town for visitors to fall into. You have been warned.

<————- Has fallen into some past Pitfalls, but it’s been years!
I usually pick some sort of Mango name for my towns. However Ive been on such a Marvel kick that I could see myself leaning in that direction.
Although if my daughters decide to play (by the time the game is out both my kids with be teenagers) I might get some input on names. My oldest is obsessed with Sonic so I can see her picking something in that area, and my other loves Fairy Tale the Anime.
However so far neither has taken much interest in Animal Crossing & I have past DS versions. I still have my original Game Cube Version, but I haven’t had a GC itself over 15 years or so. No idea why I’ve hung onto a game I can’t play at all.

I’ll probably continue my tradition of naming my town “Toontown”. Around 2003-2004 (the first time I ever played the game) I really wanted to play Disney’s Toontown on the PC, but I couldn’t figure out how to run it. So whenever I booted up Animal Crossing for the first time, it took me two seconds to choose a name; I abruptly chose Toontown because I was so interested in it at the time. Ever since then, I’ve named every town I’ve ever created Toontown; AC:GC, AC:WW, and AC:NL. So I don’t think I’ll break the tradition!

I'll be naming my town Montecristo, provided the name fits. Named after the real world island, which is famous for it being a setting in Alexandre Dumas' classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo. It seems fitting, because it is a deserted island, and I may and or may not be planning to hide some treasure on the island.

I’m considering naming it Phenac after my favorite game series besides AC, Pokémon colosseum & XD gale of darkness. I named previous town pyrite, wasn’t sure how I felt about it though. Phenac is the tropical city in the games in the Orre region but I’m not sure yet. I have plenty of time to decide at least lol
All of my town names are completely random or tv show/movie inspired. I'm not very creative at all and usually end up regretting my town names anyways in the future.
As of now I'm set on calling it Gullah-Gullah or just Gullah (Island) depending on character limit.

I’ve always been into Greek mythology and have had quite a few mythology related town and character names so I may do that again. But there’s so much time for me to change my mind though

I always like to make up a town name by combining random words. Haven't figured out anything quite yet, but haven't put time into it either. We'll see what happens...

I tend to name my first town Sunseta - simply as I used to call Harvest Moon farms Sunset Farm and thought plonking an a on the end made it sound more like a place name.
I've had towns named after gems and flowers (Emerald, Sapphire, and Bluebell). And once a Mooneta, to go with Sunseta.
However as it is an island, Sunseta just sounds so right for it that I am 99% sure that is what I will name it. Especially with those screenshots of the Beach at sunset.

I've thought about it a little bit, but nothing has jumped out at me too too much at this point.
I've considered Pancakes (I had an old CF town with this name, but I never played it much) though! Or maybe Siren or Ariel since it's got the island theme and I adore mermaids.
Still mulling over my main island... I keep wanting to go tropical, but winter! Maybe I'll aim for a Scandinavian or Hebredean name... But coconuts and bananas and whatever other tropical stuff!
However, my second island, which will be a southern hemisphere one aiming for a Waltzing Matilda theme (we'll see how that works out), will be called "Bludger".

I have always used the name Paradise since the beginning., though I always wished to use the title of my favorite book "Fablehaven" but it's 2 letters more then what is required. AC: Paradise, ACWW: Paradise, ACCF: Paradise, ACNL: Avion I'll probably name Avion again if the town name maxes out at 8 letters.
^You should have seen my face when I read your post. I love Fablehaven! It is without question my favorite book series.
I am interested to see whether or not they'll expand the character limit. Nintendo has long loved their eight-character limit, which I imagine has been especially frustrating for people whose actual names contain nine or more letters. I don't see a reason not to expand it, but then again I didn't see a reason not to expand it ten years ago either.
