I know it's early and people may have decided but I'm curious what people plan on doing. Will you time travel significantly to earn bells? Will you only time travel a little bit such as to catch fish/bugs only available in certain seasons? Will you use giveaways? Will you work with other people to catalog items? Will you use guides?

I will use guides because a ton of things are way too hard to figure out without them. I think I'm going to try to keep time traveling to a minimum. It shouldn't be needed nearly as much if you can sell items 24/7. I plan to avoid cataloging items or ordering from giveaways but I might cheat to get enough to design 1 room well.

To me, building up the catalog and earning bells is a huge part of the fun in the game. I ordered from giveaways a bit in AC:CF and it made the game less enjoyable because I knew I could keep ordering to complete my catalog. If I end up using giveaways in AC:NH I'm going to restrict myself so I still feel like working on my catalog and earning bells naturally is making progress.

Entirely purely. I've always opposed time traveling and have gone to great lengths to avoid attaining objects that were originally generated illegitimately (which has meant severely limiting the range of people with whom I play multiplayer), and that's not going to change now.

I'm considering even playing without the use of any guides this time around. I've purchased guides to previous Animal Crossing games, but I'm considering switching() things up a little by going blind with New Horizons. I won't be as strict about not coming across any useful information about the game as I am with non-AC games, however.

I’ve always time traveled but I really don’t see myself doing it this time around. If there’s a really big thing to unlock after a couple of days or a way to get out of a “tutorial mode” I may skip ahead a day at a time and then move back to the correct day once I’m out of that tutorial. I wasn’t on here until NL but by the time I joined NL was losing popularity and I didn’t have much of an incentive to start building up a town from scratch without time travel because the game was already out for a while. I’m a lot more patient now and I think it’ll be really cool and fun to build everything up in real time, with the occasional time travel when I miss events like New Years or Christmas.

for me I like to play legitimately for the first year (except maybe TT if I'm too busy to play on a holiday), but after that all bets are off and anything goes.

as for guides, if something is reversible/not permanent, I usually won't bother with guides at first. if it's something that can't be changed, guides for sure.

I've never used giveaways mostly bc there is a lot of reading on most giveaways and I can't be bothered with it if I need a certain item I just make a post on tumblr about it, and since most of my mutuals are also big on town decorating, it's usually not that hard to find what I'm looking for. early on in the game I buy everything I can get my hands on to build up a reasonable sized catalogue so I have more to offer while trading later.

First, in addressing all of your questions, I don't object to others doing these things. I just don't happen to do them myself, because I play Animal Crossing to relax. Being overly competitive in such a laid back video game doesn't achieve that desired result (for me).

"Will you time travel significantly to earn bells?"
Depends on what you mean by significantly. In New Leaf, I have time traveled but only a day or two usually. The very few times I time traveled for months, it was more out of curiosity, to see what would happen to my town. Would everybody leave? How bad would it look? And so on.

"Will you only time travel a little bit such as to catch fish/bugs only available in certain seasons?"
Actually, in New Leaf I never got around to doing that. I don't see anything wrong with it, but I am not very much of a completionist.

One reason I time travel is to skip holidays that I don't like. Jack gives me the creeps. Another reason is to do two days worth of game play in one day, because of having been busy previously and therefore having to skip a day. Once I time traveled day by day for a couple of months in order to get a golden axe because I wanted to chop down all my trees. (I know, I know.... kinda crazy but I was in a mood).

"Will you use giveaways?"
No.

"Will you work with other people to catalog items? "
No. Like I said above, I really don't care. I just want to go fish and relax. And shop. LOL

"Will you use guides?"
Only free websites, like Thonky and so on.

Time travel-Only if I'm late playing.  If they have events like ACNL it's hard to join in when you play later at night. After a year I might time travel in my 2nd island.

Giveways/catalog.  I prefer to earn them on my own.  The only time I've cataloged or bought items are for rare items that NA never got.

Guides.  I prefer to play blind but buy all the guide books for collecting.  I did use guides later in the game for villagers birthdays.

I plan on playing pretty purely. I don’t plan on time traveling, although I will probably use guides here and there when I need to. I don’t see myself participating in giveaways until I’m much further in the game and looking to complete my catalog as much as I can. At the beginning, I would like to accomplish as much as I can organically.

I always tell myself, that every AC game I'll play "the proper way". But that always ends up going down the drain rather quickly!

For this one, I really will though. I didn't use any hacking tools on New Leaf ever, because well, the 3DS is difficult and expensive to hack into. Also I just didn't like New Leaf as much.

Plus, the online servers may block hacked towns anyway.

And if I need anything, I'm sure the expert players on here will have trades, giveaways, and services I can rely on.

By significantly I meant not going ahead 3 days at a time to pick fruit or repeatedly playing at times when valuable bugs are out.

I'm kind of surprised to see how many people plan to play fairly purely. I have tried to do it in previous games and it felt like I was the only one. Trading was frustrating because I could tell a ton of people were giving me great deals almost as a favor because they had ordered from giveaways or something similar so they had no issue giving up items for cheap.

Probably leaning more on the pure side as I always have! However, YouTube will have some impact on how I play; love watching other people play and getting new ideas for my town.

I plan on playing purely! I never time traveled in New Leaf ( tho that was primarily because I was too lazy to go into system settings to change the time ) . But also, I didn't want to risk messing up my activity log or streetpass data! So I just personally never felt the need to time travel haha.

As for giveaways, I'm not sure! In New Leaf I've gotten birthday giveaways, things like flowers, party poppers, balloons, and presents, but I've never abused it in any way. I think giveaways are fun, but it all depends on perspective and what is being given away as well as how often you do it! I would love to work on completing the catalog with close friends, trading and buying stuff from each other. The majority of items I'm sure I'll be getting on my own, but I like the idea of having some sort of economy with friends across different islands.

I’m gonna try to play pure but may do time travel here and there possibly.

Definitely gonna have a Nintendo themed island if I can. Possibly having Mario and Legend of Zelda themed items everywhere and in my home. Some will go outside and some will go inside. First off though, gonna get everything I possibly can done and that’s spending hours onto the game. There’s gonna be a TON to do once it releases, and I’m gonna have to try and get that all done.

If it is anything like new leaf and a lot of helpful guides/tips about the game are available before the release i will be sure to read up on them. Ive never been a fan of time travelling. As the point of the game is that if you play once a month or every day the clock still ticks the same.

I'm going to try to play the game purely, but after a while I'll probably start to use online guides like I did with NL.

Like with NL, I also want to avoid trying to know everything that I can about the game before I pick it up, because that made the experience a lot better for me. I knew too much going into CF, and that's partially what ruined it for me (also the lack of new content).

I've only played New Leaf, which I played completely purely.

The only thing that might be considered "impure" is that I received some foreign fruits from trading with a small Twitch streamer, which might be considered "impure" because I don't know where she got them from. I didn't bother to check with her, but I'm not really that worried about it, as all of my interactions with her items have been "pure."

Nintendo said they won’t be using cloud saves for this game because they want to keep people from cheating. They made it sound like you won’t have an option to change the time. I think if people want to cheat, let them cheat.

I prefer playing as pure as possible for as long as possible, but after I lost my town to save data corruption, I did a lot of time traveling to get my new town up and running. I would have rather started from a backup save point, but Nintendo has never allowed save data backups for any Animal Crossing.

The problem is that in such an interconnected game world, cheating affects other people too unless you never play multiplayer.

I wonder how much changing the time will be limited? I've moved back and forth a couple of times between my home country and abroad and each time I need to reset the time to fit the new time zone. It would really take out some of the immersion if I wasn't able to change the time to reflect the location that I was in.

^the switch doesn't have time and date settings the way the 3DS had, but you can go into your settings to change your timezone. I'm not sure whether you'll be able to adjust the clock before loading a save file like in previous games, but adjusting for timezone through the system settings won't be an issue.

Hmm. I definitely won't time travel, but I'm starting to think that maybe I should at least wait a month or two before even trading items with other players or engaging in online play at all. I always prefer to get a feel for the single player experience before using online features.

Everything I do is based on local, natural singleplayer. I'll give villagers and items away but I'll never move someone in from somewhere else or sell things to other players. It makes me feel so dirty, even amiibo villagers kind of rub me the wrong way, but there's a single rare exception where I'll move someone in. Time traveling also is not for me at all. I REALLY like real-time games, the only reason I couldn't get into Stardew Valley is because it wasn't real time.

For anyone wondering, I'll be moving in Marcel the first chance I get. He moved into my old New Leaf town two or three days before my 3DS bricked. He never got a fair shake, so I'll be reviving him in New Horizons.
