Hey there, I'm Faith!
I used to get on the forums a lot as a kid, and with the new about the release date of the new game, I have decided to create an account and hop on the forums again.

I'm super pumped about this game! I have been reading news articles and watching youtube videos since the news at E3. In this forum, I was looking forward to hearing what people had to say about the game based on little gameplay and trailers we've seen.

I was a bit worried about the crafting mechanic, but it has grown on me quite a bit. There are so many features like couch-play and adding paths that I'm very excited about. placing items outside will be absolutely brilliant. I am a bit curious as to our character's origin. If we are not the mayor or owner of the island, why have we decided to come to this deserted island in the first place? What will our purpose be? Why do we have the power to move villagers where we want and build the town from the ground up? Any thoughts?

(Also, I don't have any friends in real life that play the game. If you're in the same boat and wanna play together when the game releases let me know haha)

Hey Faith! I'm Also trying to get back into ACC now that New Horizons is coming out soon.
I was pretty experienced in New Leaf so I'm really really excited about this new game. One of my favorite things to do is decorate my town so now that you can place furniture outside, I'm gonna get crazy with it LOL.

Pocket Camp was kind of a big deal when it came out & I played on it daily but after only one month, it got really boring for me so I really hope that New Horizons is nothing like Pocket Camp.

I'vebeen wondering what our role on the island will be & I've come up with nothing. If Nook owns the island, are we just tenants? I think it would be cool to be able to Run for Mayor & get voted in based on your popularity with all the villagers though.

I think that our character will play a large role in the development of the island.  We accept an island getaway package for whatever reason - maybe that's something that's not explicitly said so that you can come up with your own backstory for your character and why they've come to the island.

But, once on the island, our actions dictate whether more amenities are built.  They hinted that you could stay in a tent forever but that Tom would take that as an indication that a more rustic island with few amenities is preferred.  Also, you'll be able to decide where animals move in, so you'll have some additional say over how the island develops.  And, perhaps even where shops and other amenities get built.  And, of course, we'll have full control over decorating the island with furniture.

And speaking of placing furniture outdoors, one thing I noticed after reviewing the screenshots (again) on the official site is that there is a workbench in two of the outdoor screenshots.  Is this purely decorative?  Or can we use it to craft rather than having to go to Nooks?

I'm excited for the pathmaking feature and hope that means that grasswear is a thing of the past.

My headcanon is that we accept the prize, get to the island, and nook shows us the fine print that says we have to help develop the island as payment.

This may be an unpopular opinion but the thing I’m most concerned/worried about is how there haven’t been any sneak peaks about the shops. Able sisters, t&T mart, kicks, retail.. I’m a shopper so checking these stores daily was one of my favorite parts about the game. Also the museum!!
I feel like we go into animal crossing expecting these things so I’m worried they may have made it all into crafting. Which I am really excited about but I also love the shopping aspect lol.

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion, or at least it's one that I hold as well.

I, too, am excited for the crafting and the possibilities it will open up, but I'm still hopeful that we will still have the traditional shops (and maybe more!) to purchase furniture, clothing, etc.

One thing I think we might not have is Shampoodles, since we can change our character's appearance on the fly (from what I've read).  But, perhaps she'll be an avenue to obtaining new hairstyles and eycolors, etc.

Only less than two months to go,  Man, Nintendo has certainly been low-key about this launch, at least to this point.  I had expected an ACNH-themed Switch, but we're just getting a variety of uninteresting (to me, at least) pre-order physical bonuses and a couple of themed controllers.

Hopefully, as we get closer, we'll get more details on additional gameplay features and what amenities we can expect as we develop the island.

This is what I'm the most curious on, I feel like they'll come with being built but I really hope they look nice.

I have a concern about multiplayer chatting for new horizons.

We have pens on the 3DS to type out messages to friends in New Leaf but the Nintendo Switch doesn't have pens. Are we gonna just use our fingers or is it only voice chat? I don't know if any of this has been revealed yet but I was just concerned about it. Any ideas on what they might do?

They'll probably make it so that you select the characters you want to type in with the Switch's controller through an on-screen keyboard pop up! I imagine it'd look something like how it did in City Folk.

It's worth noting that the Switch doesn't have a built-in mic, so voice chat through the system itself won't be possible. However, we'll probably be able to use the Nintendo Switch Online App to voice chat through our connected smart devices ^^

The thing about the pop up keyboard is, it takes forever to type out a sentence with the controllers. At least, for me it does.

any stylus that works on a phone would work on a switch, so if you're in portable mode, you can likely use a cheap dollar store stylus to type (unless they decide not to use the touch screen for some reason)

in docked mode, you can plug a keyboard into the USB port on the dock and use that. I've been told this is a built in system feature, so it'd probably be more work for them to not include it as an option.

Yep, and if you have the right adapter, you can even connect a keyboard in handheld-mode.

Obviously, we've got no confirmation of keyboard support yet, but it is a systemwide feature (anywhere using the standard on-screen keyboard also supports USB keyboards), and you're right that it'd be more work for them to not use what's already built-in, so I'd guess that it's fairly likely.

THE KEYBOARD. YES, that's a must for me. When CF utilized that wifi communication could not have been better. Here's hoping for longer text limits though ;D

In the Nintendo Direct for New Horizons, they showed you could use the Smartphone App to chat through. They haven't confirmed if that's the only way to communicate or not. However, they showed an on-screen keyboard when writing the letter to a villager in the Airport.

If I have to type through my phone Everytime, it's gonna get old..
I hope they shed some light on this matter.

Overall I'm happy with a lot of the ease of use features that have been added to the series with this new game. Of course being able to terraform the island is a big deal for the series as well.

My main hope at this point is that they extend the amount of villagers you could have in your town...and make it like you can have as many as you can fit in your town.

For example, I won't be playing with anyone else in my copy (not local anyway)....so technically I could fit in another 7 villagers in place of other players. It would just be neat if they didn't impose an arbitrary limit. (a more organic limit that's based on available space would be so much better)

I guess I'm just nostalgic for the Gamecube days when we could have 15 villagers. I love the idea of having a bustling community.

I'm a little concerned that every pair of starting villagers we've seen so far has consisted of a jock and an uchi. We first saw Hamlet and Fuchsia and then Tammy and Bill, and in the direct, we saw Tammy/Kid Cat, Canberra/Drift, and Buck/Cherry. Apparently there are also articles where people had Hamlet/Hazel and Biff/Mira as their starters. It seems kind of odd that they'd confine the starting villagers to only two personalities, and yet we've seen several sets of starting pairs and it's the same personality combo every time, which is even more strange considering how there are so few uchis compared to the other personalities. Maybe because those are the personalities that might be most likely to get the deserted island package?

I hope it's just a coincidence but I'm getting more and more skeptical.

^oh man you're right, I hadn't noticed that the only two reasons I can think of are either it's just a demo thing (in all the articles, the people who got to play the game early were limited to about half an hour), or it's just so they don't have to write starting dialogue for all 8 personality types

if it's true that all towns start with a jock and an uchi, I hope it means we'll be getting a good sized chunk of new uchis. they're my favourite personality type and a lot of my favourite villager designs are uchi characters
