SO in New Horizons the point is to build up our town completely! As excited as I am for that, I'm so indecisive. I have no idea how I even want to place the islanders tents so maybe I'll just let them plot wherever they want even though I hated the random plotting in New Leaf. Anyone have any ideas for the general layout of their Island yet? Are you going to make a little residential section or are you going to let them set their tents up anywhere?
I will definitely let villagers set up wherever they want, and I hope that there's an option to automate it so that I don't have to approve each one, precisely because having the authority to choose where the villagers live feels like too much power.

That ascpect worries me some. I play the game to relax. Fish, catch bugs and chat with my neighbors. I'm not a big home design, town design or pattern maker.
It will be nice since New Leaf took away the sign posts were we could have an idea they could move into. If someone tries to move somewhere I don't want I'll utilize it, but overall I think I'll let them go with the flow.
and soggy steamed vegetables are the universe's way of crying inconsolably.
From what I understand they tell you where they want to go and you can either say yes or say no and tell them where to go. Hopefully it will be easy to let them do what they want.
I will tell them no if they're moving into a horrible spot but I won't try to plan too actively. With the town starting out pretty bare it shouldn't be an issue at first. If you eventually get the normal buildings I'll place those and make paths and starting then, I'll tell them no if they want to move in on a path but otherwise let them do what they want.
Let's go Gophers! Ski-U-Mah!
Sorry, I don't accept random FCRs.
I think in the beginning I'll let them go wherever since I usually like to play pretty scrappy at the start of the game and I likely won't have a plan for my town right out the gate. once I start really digging into town design though, I'm going to make huge use out of this feature. in NL one thing I didn't like was that it felt like a dictator frantically stopping all my villagers from leaving incase the next one moves in a bad spot. I also didn't like that I had to basically decide on ten villagers that fit the theme best since it was too much work to replace them. now I can let villagers come and go as they please and just tell whoever shows up next that they can put their tent where the last one was.
if they release an AC switch, I plan on buying it, which means I'll be able to have two islands. if I get a second one, I plan to have a theme going into it on day one and be very controlling. hopefully inviting villagers with amiibos will still be an option. but with my first town I like to play casually and kind of go with what's given to me.

I have a plan to let the villagers move in wherever they want (just like I did in my ACNL). Instead of having everyone’s house have an open yard, filled with flowers and bushes for borders (like I did in my ACNL) I’m going to have everyone’s “tent” be surrounded by trees, making it a maze to get to their front doors. I did one like it for only 1 villager in my ACNL Town and I loved it and immediately refrained from doing it to all of the others, just so that I could have a new and fresh idea/look for my new ACNH island. It’s going to be a Rainforest theme if I can make it happen!
I'm extremely indecisive as well! Making plans and town decorating stresses me out I plan on letting them move wherever they want.
In New Leaf I feel like I got way too caught up in having themes and making my town pretty. So much that it lost it's fun. So I'm "going back to my roots" and just letting whatever happens, happen. I enjoy it much more that way.

The Photon Replies, ''No, I'm Traveling Light.''
I'm not super good at designing things, but I got more into that aspect in New leaf. Suddenly, I cared where my villagers moved, and I felt like they always moved into the very place I didn't want. In NH I plan on making one part of my island for houses and another for shops. I will also probably place my house near the other villagers. I will not make it super uniform and symmetrical so it looks a litttttllleee natural haha
