Belle excitedly rushed off the plane, her bag thrown over her shoulder. Her smile overcame her face and her eyes glistened as she stared at the tall buildings that surrounded her. Her first stop would be the Lumiose Pokemon Center, where she would register herself for the Kalos League. She lifted one leg up, then the other, patting her poke'ball's, which were tied to a strap she had around her ankles. Three on each side.
"We made it guys. Today is our first step towards competing in the Kalos League!"
The busy streets and chatter made her stomach turn. Four years of training and she finally was going to compete for badges again. Also, Lumiose City was where Professor Sycamore studied; and she was hoping he could guide her towards getting the other two mega stones she needed. She wandered a bit until the red poke'ball logo caught her eye. She jumped up in excitement and rushed over to the Pokemon Center. When she stepped inside, the familiar face of Nurse Joy awaited her, but this one sported a different hairstyle. The pink color was the same, but her pigtails were worn in more U-shaped ways on the side of her head.
"Hello, welcome to the Pokemon Center," Nurse Joy greeted her.
"Hello. My name is Belle Starr and I am here to register for the Kalos League!" Belle exclaimed.
"Wonderful," Nurse Joy beamed, tilting her head with a smile. "We will fill out a form that you will take over to Professor Sycamore to get your updated Poke'dex and then you’ll be all registered."
Belle nodded and filled out the form that Nurse Joy gave her. Afterward, Nurse Joy took her picture and paper clipped it to the form. Belle stared down at it. Her bright red hair hung just above her shoulders and formed spiked triangle shapes at the bottom. Her large brown eyes looked determined. She wore a thick, white headband with a blue silhouette of a Dragonair embroidered on it. On her wrist, she wore a black, leather band that she had her Keystone sewn into. She looked up to Nurse Joy and nodded.
"Thank you, Nurse Joy. I’m off to Professor Sycamore's lab!"
"Excellent, dear. Just head down that way and you'll be there in no time." She explained, pointing towards the direction of Professor Sycamore's lab. "You’re welcome to return to the Pokemon Center when it gets dark if you are staying the night here in Lumiose City."
"Thank you, I probably will be here tonight!" Belle exclaimed. "See you soon!"
Walking outside, she looked down at the forms and smiled. Gazing back up, she rushed towards Professor Sycamore's lab. Nurse Joy was right, heading in that direction was all she had to, because she was there in no time at all. She walked into the lab and looked around interested at all the equipment they had operating.
"Hello?" Belle called out, walking further into the lab.
A moment later a tall man appeared. He had wavy black hair and deep blue eyes. A large white lab coat was worn over a bright blue shirt. He smiled curiously at Belle.
"Hello, may I help you?"
"My name is Belle Starr. My father told me that Professor Sycamore may be able to assist me on my quest for two specific mega stones I’m after? Is he around?"
"Yes, he is!" The man beamed. "He is me!"
"Oh!" Belle said, her cheeks flushing in embarrassment. "I apologize, Professor. I should've known better."
"No worries. So, you are the great Belle, Professor Starr has told me so much about. I’m excited to finally meet you."
"The pleasure is mine," she returned, bowing her head. "Your research on mega evolution has helped me so much with training my Charizard."
"I'd love to see your Charizard, mega evolve!" He exclaimed. "Could you demonstrate?"
"Of course!" Belle beamed. She lifted her leg up and moved it slightly left, so her Charizard's poke'ball unlatched and hit her shoe, kicking it towards her hand. She grabbed it. "Come on out, Charizard!"
Charizard appeared from the poke'ball. Letting out a friendly roar, greeting Belle. Belle smiled at him.
"Professor Sycamore here would love to see you Mega Evolve. Do you mind?"
Charizard responded with another roar, this time shaking his head. She nodded and lifted her arm up.
"Charizard, Mega Evolve!" She exclaimed, touching her finger to the keystone.
Charizard wore his Charizardite around his wrist, in a leather band that matched Belle's. The orange and yellow swirled stone activated and Charizard began to transform. A horn formed on top of Charizard's head and his wings became larger and had sharper tips. Two smaller wings appeared on his arms. When the mega evolution was completed, Charizard let out another roar. This one echoed through the building and caused Professor Sycamore to smile with delight.
"Your Charizard is in impeccable shape! Everything about it shows how well you've trained it and how close you two are. Very well done, Belle. I can see why they call you the best Dragon-type trainer around."
"Well, only my father calls me that," Belle responded, blush emerging in her cheeks. She rubbed the back of her head humbly. "I’m so glad you think so highly of my Charizard. I have spent the last four years growing and training my team. I’m only one Pokémon shy of a full-team, but I decided it was time we go back to battling gyms. Plus, being in the Kalos league is also my best bet for finding the mega stones I am after!"
"That's right," he said as he was circling Charizard and noting his observations. "Which stones were you after? Maybe I could guide you to where they've reportedly been discovered?"
"I am looking for Altarianite and Sceptilite. I am hoping to give my Altaria her mega stone; and when my Grovyle grows, give him his."
"Those are great goals. I’m glad to see a trainer so dedicated to helping her Pokémon grow. You’ll be a strong contender in the Kalos League with ambition like that."
"Thank you. After coming fourth in the Indigo League I took four years off. Since then I've worked tirelessly to train and develop my dragon team, and it's nearly complete!"
"Well, I won't be the one to stand in your way. I haven't heard of the location of Altarianite yet, but I have heard that you can find Sceptilite Coumarine City. I'm sure, Ramos the Coumarine gym leader could give you further directions from there."
Belle nodded and gazed down at the papers in her hand. Her eyes widened.
"I almost forgot!" She exclaimed, handing him the forms. "Nurse Joy said I needed to give you this in order to receive my Kalos Poke'dex."
Professor Sycamore nodded and took the form from her. He looked over everything and gave a short smile as he walked over to a machine. The machine took in the form and a few minutes later a Poke’dex emerged from it. He handed it to Belle.
"Here you are. You are all set and registered for the Kalos League."
Belle touched her keystone and Charizard reverted to his normal status. She held out the poke'ball and nodded to Charizard. He roared and nodded, waiting to be returned to his poke'ball. She latched his ball back to her ankle strap.
"Thanks again, Professor Sycamore. I appreciate your help!"
"Anytime, I'll be rooting for you!"
"Thanks, Professor," she said, waving as she walked out of the lab.
The sun was already starting to set. She smiled and figured it was a good time to turn in and, in the morning, she could head over to the Lumiose gym. She walked into the Pokémon Center and nodded at Nurse Joy who was attending to other trainers. She began to claim a corner of the Pokémon center lobby, when she overheard the trainers talking about the Lumiose City Gym.
"Well, if I can't compete at Lumiose Gym until I have four badges, where should I start?" The black-haired boy with a red cap asked a blonde boy with large round glasses.
"Well, Santalune City isn't too far away." He responded.
"I'm sorry," Belle interrupted. They both looked to her. The black-haired boy's Pikachu sat on top of his hat and tilted his head curiously at her also. She smiled at the Pikachu before returning her gaze to the two trainers. "Did you say you can't compete at Lumiose Gym without four badges first?"
"Yeah," the red cap boy responded, a frown on his face. "Apparently, they won't even let you inside without four badges."
"I guess I won't be going there tomorrow then," she sighed.
"Are you a Pokémon trainer too then?" The red-capped boy questioned.
"Yes, my name is Belle. Belle Starr."
"I'm Ash Ketchum and this is my new friend Clemont and his younger sister, Bonnie."
The blonde boy waved in acknowledgment. The young blonde girl emerged from behind her brother. Her eyes shining up at Belle. A smile took over her small face.
"You're a keeper!" Bonnie exclaimed, holding her hand towards Belle.
"A keeper?" Belle questioned confused.
Before Bonnie could proceed, Clemont's bag had some strange arm attachment to pull her away. Clemont adverted his gaze and appeared embarrassed.
"I'm missing something," Belle laughed with hesitance.
"No-no. Don't worry about it! It's nothing!" Clemont exclaimed. Obviously flushed from whatever Bonnie meant by her actions.
"So, are you an electric trainer, Ash?" Belle asked gesturing towards his Pikachu.
"Pikachu was my first Pokémon, but I like to train all sorts of different types of Pokémon."
"Your Pikachu looks so healthy and happy. I can tell you guys are very close. I'm a Dragon-type trainer myself."
"I don't want to give away all my secrets. I'm sure you'll get to meet all my Pokémon eventually. Especially, if we are going on the same journey to compete in the Kalos League!" Belle exclaimed, tilting her head with a small laugh.
"Well, how about show me just one Pokémon then?" Ash asked in an excited tone.
"Sounds fair. You showed me your first. So, I will show you mine!" Belle exclaimed. She lifted her leg and tilted it slightly differently than before. This time a different poke'ball kicked up. She grabbed it and threw it forward. "Come on out, Dragonair!"
"Whoa, you have a Dragonair!" Ash exclaimed, looking over the Pokémon with excitement. He pulled out his Poke'dex and observed the Pokémon in the image and then looked back up at Belle's. She smiled when a curious expression overcame his face.
"You're wondering about the gray stone Dragonair is wearing under its blue pearl, huh?" She asked with a knowing smirk. Ash nodded. "That's an Everstone," she explained.
"Wait." Clemont chimed in. "If your Dragonair is wearing an Everstone, that must mean."
"Neither I nor Dragonair wants it to evolve, correct!" Belle exclaimed.
"So, you don't want a Dragonite?" Ash exclaimed, obviously taken aback by the idea.
"I love Dragonite's and am obsessed with all Dragon-type Pokémon, but ever since I was a little girl and won my Dratini at the Rocket Game Corner. I always dreamed of evolving it into a Dragonair. Then one day, I was in trouble and Dratini came to my rescue by evolving. It was all at that moment I knew that Dragonair and I would be together forever."
"I can understand that," Ash stated. "Pikachu doesn't want to evolve either."
"That makes sense. Your Pikachu looks so strong, I was surprised by the fact that it wasn't evolved. He is such a cutie," Belle exclaimed, petting Pikachu gently. Pikachu let out a squeal of delight.
The Pokémon Center lights flickered to let them know it was time for bed. The four of them looked up towards the lights and frowned.
"I guess it's time to rest," Belle sighed. "Come on back, Dragonair," she exclaimed returning him to its poke'ball.
Belle fastened Dragonair's poke'ball back on her ankle and wished her new friend's goodnight. She walked over and grabbed her sleeping bag out of her backpack and laid it on the floor. Unstrapping her poke'ball's she rolled them in a small blanket and put them safely in her backpack, so they'd be warm. A small smile crossed her face as she stared down at them. Tomorrow they would head off towards Santalune City, where together they’d win their first badge of the Kalos league.
Belle sat up and rubbed her face with her hands, looking around to see everyone in the Pokemon Center planted up against the window. She got up and flattened her frayed hair with her hands as she walked over to the window. Her eyes widened when she saw Ash and the others engaged in a pokemon battle with someone. Must be some battle to have this kind of audience, she thought as she put her shoes on. She grabbed her blue headband with Dragonair embroidered on it and used it to tidy her hair. She grabbed her bag and strapped her pokeballs back on as she walked outside, she heard someone call out to her, but she was already out the door. Ash was looking right at her, she looked around.
"Wait, who were you battling?" Belle asked. He pointed up and she covered her mouth in a gasp. "Who are those people?" She asked frantically seeing three small objects flying away.
"Don't worry about them. That's just Team Rocket," Ash snickered.
"But if they fall they-"
'Bell, they steal other people's pokemon. They are not good guys. They deserve to be roughened up a bit," Ash challenged.
She sucked on her lip and took a deep breath. "Okay. Well, I better be off. I'll see you in Santalune City."
"Well, you could come with us, if you want?" Ash offered.
"Thanks, but I travel alone and I have some training to do before I get to Santalune. See you guys soon," she waved and waited until she was out of sight to pick up the pace. She ran as quickly as she could towards where the three of them were flying. She knew they were bad, but no one deserved to get hurt. She slowed her pace when she ran straight into a forest. She looked around and relieved her breath when she finally spotted them. There was a guy, a girl, and a Meowth all tangled in a tree up above. All of them seemed to be knocked out. She frowned and tried to brainstorm a plan in her mind.
An idea came to her. Quietly she lifted her leg and shifted it slightly, she kicked up her Pokeball and quietly called Grovyle. Grovyle looked to her curious. Then again, she lifted her leg and kicked up a different Pokeball and called out Altaria.
"Grovyle," she whispered. "See those three up there?" He nodded as she turned his head and located the people she was referring to. "I don't want to wake them, but we need to get them down. Altaria, I need you to help carry them down gently when we do, okay?"
They both nodded in understanding. She watched from behind the tree as her Pokemon did as they were directed. When the two people and the Meowth were down safely, she returned both Pokemon and strapped them back on to her leg. Reaching into her bag, she grabbed her oversized jacket. She used it during rougher weather and to keep hidden in areas with more dangerous Pokemon. The white hooded jacket covered her eyes and hung down her mid-thighs. Reaching in her bag again she pulled out a first aid kit. She walked over to the Meowth first.
There were no serious injuries, only a small scrape on its tail. She put some medication on it and bandaged up the scrape before moving over to the girl. Belle was surprised by how little damage they seemed to take. The girl had a bruise on her knee. She wrapped a small ice pack and put it on top of it. Then, she moved over to the guy. His blue hair had covered his face. Using her fingers, she gently pushed aside the strands of hair that were covering his face. Blush emerged in her cheeks when she caught sight of him. She couldn't help the small smile that emerged on her face. The guy was incredibly handsome. She took a deep breath and looked over him, frowning when seeing a cut on his arm. His wound seemed the worst of the three of them. Carefully, she cleaned it out and put medicine over it and bandaged it up. She sighed, looking down over him. Picking up her first aid kit, she walked back over to her bag.
"They'll be hungry when they wake up," she whispered to herself. She looked over and spotted several berry bushes nearby. She nodded and walked over to them, using a small bag she had to put them in. Once it was filled, she placed it next to them and then walked over and stocked up her own supply. A sigh escaped her. She put her backpack on and couldn't help her traveling eye as it fell on the guy again. She looked over and saw the Meowth move, her heart jumped and she quickly took shelter behind the berry bushes, peering out over them.
"What happened?" The Meowth asked looking around confused.
Her eyes widened, and she had to cover her mouth to withhold the gasp. She knew that Meowth just spoke, how, she had no idea, but it did. She watched as he looked confused at the bandage on his tail. Then, he stood up and looked over at the other two laying beside him.
"Hey! Wake up!" he exclaimed, nudging them with his paws. They both moaned as they sat up.
"Where are we?" The girl asked, looking down at the ice pack on her knee. "Who did this?"
"I don't know," Meowth replied. "I had this bandage on my tail."
"James, what about you?" The girl asked the blue-haired boy.
"James," Belle thought, unable to hold back her doofy smile.
"I don't know, Jessie, but I have a bandage on my arm too." He looked ahead. "Look," he said gesturing towards the berries. "Who would do all of this; and for us?"
"Who cares!" Jessie exclaimed, "let's eat!"
Belle watched as they divided the berries between the three of them. The girl and the Meowth dug right into the food, but James observed the berries before doing the same. When eating he looked around.
"I just don't get why someone would help us?" James questioned, aloud.
"Let's just be happy they did. Well, you finish up, Meowth and I will go see if we can't find our balloon," Jessie exclaimed.
James nodded as he watched the two of them leave. He slowly ate the berries and looked around. It wasn't much longer that he was done eating. He stood up.
"Well, I don't know who you are, or why you helped us, but, thank you," he said smiling. "I know it's not much, but this is for you."
He reached into an inside pocket of his shirt and pulled out a rose. Carefully, he laid it on the ground. Belle looked down at the rose and then back up at him, as she peered through the berry bushes. He smiled again, causing the blush in her cheeks to return. He walked off, calling out for the girl and the Meowth. She was about to stand when she saw him stop. He leaned down and picked something up. Her heart sunk when she saw what it was. Touching her hands to her head, she realized her headband fell off. He smiled at it and looked around, tucking it into his pocket. Afterward, he walked off.
"Oh, Diglett's!" Belle exclaimed in frustration.
Belle looked over at the rose. She sighed and stood up. She carefully picked it up and smiled as she stared at the vibrant red rose. Holding it close to her chest, she couldn't help the sick feeling in her stomach, or the blush that became more prominent in her cheeks. Reaching in her backpack, she pulled out her journal and pressed the flower inside. She heard a strange sound and looked up to see a Meowth-shaped balloon floating away. The girl, guy, and Meowth were inside and seemed to be heading for Salatune City.
"Well, until we meet again," Belle whispered. Smiling at the balloon.
Belle woke up the next morning. She smiled looking around the area she camped out at. There was a small lake nearby a surrounding forest. They were on route 4, and onward to the Santalune Gym, but for now, she figured it was a good idea to get some extra training in.
"This is a great place for everyone to come out and stretch," she exclaimed as she pulled her poke'balls out of her backpack. "Come out everyone!" She exclaimed as she opened all their poke'balls. She put the empty poke'balls back on her straps and tied them around her ankles as her Pokemon squealed in excitement.
Dragonair and Kingdra enjoyed themselves in the lake, Grovyle lounged by the lake, but on the grass. While Charizard and Altaria flew around chasing one another. She smiled as she watched all of them play. Belle grabbed her bag and pulled out the berries and other ingredients she kept stocked to make her Pokemon food. She always made their food first and then her own.
"Lunch is ready!" She called out. All of her Pokemon ran over excited as she sat down each of their bowls. When they began to eat, she worked at making herself something to eat, using the berries. "After we eat, we need to begin training. Especially you, Grovyle, you're my newest Pokemon still," she instructed with a smile.
"Grovyle!" he exclaimed with excitement as he chowed down on his food.
Once they were all done eating. Belle cleaned up and then called Charizard and Grovyle over to train.
"Okay, Charizard. I am going to be directing Grovyle and you need to give it your all. I am counting on you, alright?"
Charizard roared in delight. Grovyle positioned themselves, ready to begin.
"Let's get this started," she exclaimed extending her arm out to gesture the start of the battle. "Grovyle use quick attack!"
Grovyle quickly moved across the field. He zig-zagged back and forth. Charizard countered the attack with a large flamethrower. Grovyle tried to dodge it but was hit by the flame. Belle winced when the impact was made.
"Okay, we need to practice our speed more," she noted aloud. "Okay, hit Charizard with your best leaf blade!" She exclaimed gesturing towards Charizard.
Grovyle put himself in stance and shot a leaf blade attack towards Charizard, but Charizard used another flamethrower to incinerate all the other leaves.
"Dang, Charizard is good," she snickered. Charizard flew down and prepared to use Dragon Tail. "Dodge it, Grovyle!" She instructed.
Grovyle dodged, but barely. Charizard impacted the ground.
"Quick Grovyle, use Cut!"
Grovyle finally landed an attack on Charizard, but he quickly retaliated with dragon claw, causing Grovyle to fly backward and hit the tree. Belle sighed.
"That's the match," she exclaimed. "Nice work Charizard." Charizard roared with pride. "Grovyle, your leaf blade was amazing and I am proud you landed your cut attack, but against fire Pokemon, we rely on your quick attack. We need to work on your speed, okay?"
Grovyle nodded and looked down, feeling disappointed.
"No need to be upset. We have to work hard to get better and that's that. Charizard and I have been practicing together a lot longer than you and I have. We will get our teamwork down. Let's call everyone back and you and I can practice our speed as we run towards Santalune City, okay?"
"Grovyle!" Grovyle exclaimed with delight.
"Dragonair, Charizard, Altaria and Kingdra, return!" She strapped the poke'balls back onto her ankles and picked up her bag. "Alright Grovyle. Let's do this!"
Belle and Grovyle started at full speed running through the pathway of the forest. Belle was used to running to keep up with Charizard and Altaria's flying, but now it was time to focus on the ground.
"We need to keep zig-zagging with one another. This way you can get a better feel for how your quick attack should be."
They both ran in zig-zags, crossing one another as they continued forward. Grovyle was already making improvements. Running beside Belle seemed to be giving him the confidence and motivation he needed. At this speed, they made it through the forest in a great time. They both stopped at the end of it to catch their breath.
"Awesome work, Grovyle," Belle complimented in between breaths. "You really gave me a workout! Here, return to your poke'ball and get a nice long rest. I will head straight to the Pokemon Center and get you all checked up."
"Grovyle!" he exclaimed happily.
Belle called him back and strapped his poke'ball to her ankle. She smiled and nodded. Looking forward her eyes shone as she saw the city lights ahead of her.
"Tomorrow, I will challenge the Santalune Gym and I'll win."
She reached in her backpack and pulled out another headband. Her hair kept falling in her face and after stupidly loosing her first headband, she forgot to replace it. She pushed the black headband on her head. This one also had a blue Dragonair silhouetted on it. She threw her bag over her shoulder. As she was about to start walking to the Pokemon center she heard a scream come from behind her. Quickly, she turned around and ran towards it.
Her heart raced when she saw James again. He was backed against a wall with a swarm of Beedrill coming at him. Belle reached in her bag and grabbed the jacket and threw it over herself. She rushed over without thinking and jumped in front of him. The impact of the Beedrill hit her. She cried out. Lifting her leg, she threw Charizard's ball up.
"Charizard help!" She cried out. Charizard flew above the Beedrill and released a flamethrower, scaring all of them away. When the swarm was away, she nodded. "Thank you, Charizard," she whispered calling him back. Wincing she sat up.
"Why did you do that?" James asked. Her face turned away from him and hidden by the hood.
"I couldn't stand by and let you get hurt," she whispered, wincing again from the pain from the stingers.
"You may have been poisoned," James exclaimed.
"I'll be fine," she replied with struggle. "Where are your friends?"
"They ran off in time. I'm sure that-. Wait, are you the one? Did you help us before?" He asked.
Belle turned her face even further away, not responding. She felt her cheeks warm.
"Who are you? Why do you keep helping us?" He asked, perplexed by the idea.
"Who I am, isn't important. I will be fine. I have to go," she said trying to stand. Her legs were shaky and she lost balance. He caught her.
"You can't go in this condition," James stated. "Let me find you a Pecha Berry, that will help."
He laid her down carefully, she made sure to continue keeping her face hidden. It didn't take long for him to return. She figured it wouldn't, this forest was filled with berries of all types.
"Here," he said placing the berry in her hand. She ate it and felt relieved a moment later.
"Thanks," she whispered.
He went to lower her hood, but she stopped him.
"I have to go," she exclaimed, standing up.
"Wait!" He called out. "What's your name?"
She didn't answer and didn't lower her hood until she managed to run all the way to the Pokemon Center. She took a breath of relief and took the jacket off, shoving it back into her bag. She tore off the headband not wanting to take any chances that he followed her. Entering the pokemon center she went up to the counter.
"I'd like to have my Pokemon checked out please," she placed the pokeballs on the counter and felt herself grow weak. "Yeah, and maybe myself," she whispered, her legs collapsing underneath her.
Belle turned her head and winced at the light shining in her eyes. She sat up but was slowed down by the hands of a Chansey. She tilted her head and looked around realizing that she was on a stretcher. She was about to open her mouth, but Chansey shoved a berry in her mouth. She chewed the berry and then laid back down since Chansey pushed her body back towards the stretcher.
"Oh good, you're awake!" Nurse Joy chimed. She crossed over to Belle and placed a hand on her head. She nodded and pulled her eyes down looking around in them. "Well, you're much better. It seems the poison has finally cleared. You must've got stung by a nasty Beedrill, huh?"
"How'd you know?" Belle asked.
"I've seen everything as a Pokemon nurse. You got the full stinger of a Beedrill, that's intense. We've cleared the poison and I'm sure Chansey's already given you another Pecha Berry."
"I did have one before coming here."
"Likely wasn't ripe yet." Nurse Joy explained. "Besides the extent of the poison was serious. It was a good thing you collapsed here rather than out on your own. Oh, by the way, I let your friend know you were just fine."
"My friend?" Belle asked tilting her head. "Who?"
"Said his name was James, he had blue hair."
"Wh-what?" She exclaimed. "D-did he see me?"
"Oh no, I wouldn't allow it since he couldn't tell me your name," Nurse Joy giggled. "He explained that you stopped him from being stung. That's very brave of you."
"It was the right thing to do," Belle said, averting her gaze. "Anyway, did you check my Pokemon?"
"Of course!" Nurse Joy beamed. "They are in marvelous shape. Your Dragonair didn't want to stay in it's Poke'ball so," she gestured to the stretcher beside Belle. Belle smiled. "Obviously very concerned for you."
"Yeah, Dragonair and I have been together a long time," Belle sighed. "Well, am I good to battle Nurse Joy? Can I go?"
"Sure thing, I'm sending you with 2 Pecha berries. One for tonight and one for tomorrow, just to be safe."
"Thank you," Belle nodded. She sat up and stroked Dragonair's head.
"Nair?" She laughed as he yawned and looked up at her.
"I'm just fine," Belle said placing a small kiss on top of Dragonairs head. "Now, we have a gym battle to win, don't we? Well, we'll see if you even need to come out of your poke'ball!"
"Nair!" Dragonair responded delightfully. She held up the Pokeball and attached it to her ankle.
"Mighty confident!" Nurse Joy exclaimed. "You do know gym leaders are tougher than regular trainers."
"Well of course!" Belle beamed. "However, I'm not a regular trainer," she smirked. "Thanks again for taking care of me and my Pokemon."
"Anytime dear," Nurse Joy nodded a farewell and Belle was out the doors. She thought about James coming to see her. He probably was curious who would rescue him, but she couldn't show herself to him. If he was really as bad as Ash explained then it was in her best interest to keep her distance. However, she couldn't just stand by and let someone get hurt.
She stopped at the entrance of the gym and took a deep breath. "Four years of training. Let's do this." She walked through the automatic door and looked around.
"Hello?" She called out. "I'm here to challenge the gym leader!"
"Well, step on inside," a girl said.
Belle stepped in and smiled at the blonde girl in front of her. Her hair was bunched up, and she had a camera strapped around her neck.
"My name is Viola," the gym leader exclaimed. "What's yours?"
"I'm Belle. Belle Starr."
"Well, Belle. Shall we get started?"
"Ready when you are!"
"Alright, it will be a two on two match," the referee called out. "Only the challenger can switch Pokemon."
"That won't be necessary," Belle said with a smirk. "Because for my first Pokemon, I choose Charizard." Belle lifted her leg and kicked up the poke'ball and threw it forward. Charizard roared when he planted his feet on the battlefield.
"Confident, are we?" Viola smiled. "We won't be so easy to beat. Surskit, go!"
"As we planned Charizard, go right ahead with flamethrower!" Belle instructed.
"Surskit dodge it and cover the whole battlefield with ice."
"Charizard, fly up and cover the field with your flamethrower!"
Viola gasped when Charizard melted all the ice Surskit put down. Surskit was hit with the flamethrower and struggle to a stance.
"Surskit, use your sticky web!"
"Charizard, dodge it and then use fly!"
Charizard dodged the attack and then dived down and grabbed Surskit. He quickly flew up and then fell at a rapid speed towards the ground, throwing Surskit down.
"Surskit is unable to battle!" The referee declared when Surskit no longer could get up.
"Impressive," Viola chimed, returning Surskit. "However, let's see how you stand up against my Vivillion."
"Charizard, still good?"
Charizard nodded. Viola looked concerned. Belle smirked.
"Vivillion, sleep powder!"
"Nope, Charizard dodge that and go in for fly!"
"Use psychic, Vivillion!"
"Beat them there! Approach with your fly and change it with flamethrower!"
Viola gasped at the instruction.
"You can have your Charizard change attacks that quickly."
"Charizard can do many things," Belle said with a smile as she watched Charizard deliver the attack.
"Charge up Solar Beam!" Viola cried out.
"Don't let it charge it, Charizard. Dragon tail!"
Charizard used dragon tail, causing Vivillion to go flying into the ground. Viola waited in anticipation, but Vivillion couldn't get up.
"Vivillion is unable to battle. The challenger wins!"
"We did it Charizard!" Belle exclaimed, raising her fist in the air.
"Why haven't I heard of you before?" Viola said, shaking her head in disbelief.
"My name is Belle Starr and I'm going to be the first Dragon-Pokemon Master!"
"I don't doubt that," Viola chuckled. "Well, you've more than earned this!"
"Thank you," Belle said, taking the Bug Badge out of Viola's hand. "My first step at winning the Kalos league!"
"You are definitely a fierce competitor. I don't remember the last time I was beaten with such ease!"
"I took several years off to train. I came fourth in the Indigo League with Charizard and my Dragonair, so I built up my team and trained hard. This time, I refuse to lose."
"Well, I wish you much luck in your journey."
"Thank you, Viola," Belle said with a nod. "I better get Charizard to the Pokemon Center. Charizard return."
I haven't read pokemon manga or watched pokemon since I was younger but I'm enjoying this, props to you! wow Jessie and Meowth are so bad asking him why he didn't steal Charizard after she saved his life and oof Viola got slapped

Kai - Thank you so much. Pokemon is and always has been an obsession of mine and X and Y is the first anime I watched in entirety since the first one. I'm trying to take a lot of inspiration from it, but obviously with the twists of this new character Haha I know Jesse and Meowth need to calm down! Viola eesh . Belle is pretty powerful haha
No worries! I think the twists are good - this is very original to all the pokemon i ever watched, even if it has lots of inspiration. I look forward to more chapter And I just realised Belle has Charizard against Viola...makes a lot more sense how fast she destroyed her now
