Right now I live in a small town 2 hours away from Toronto but want to move closer, because I'm not really enjoying living in a small town. I'm from LA but I never lived in the heart of LA and it's not important to me to live in the heart of a city, just to live somewhere that people won't act bewildered and bitter when I tell them where I'm from. Because that's been my experience living in this small town so far, people look at me like I'm crazy, and no one seems interested in getting to know me. I'd like to live somewhere where I tell people where I'm from and they don't make a big deal out of it LOL.

So I was thinking somewhere in the GTA would be better. But I don't know the GTA at all so I'm hoping someone here can tell me about it, where would be some good areas to look at (I just want to rent an apartment not buy a place)... any input is vastly appreciated!

I was raised in the far east end of Toronto (recently moved). If you're looking for a good place, I'd recommend the Port Union/Kingston area, as the people there are genuinely kind people, you're not too far from anything, etc. But keep in mind that, like all housing and apartments in the GTA, it is extremely expensive.

Suuuuper late to the conversation, but if you're looking for somewhere near Toronto that's not as expensive or... busy, I would suggest Oshawa. It's an easy commute to Toronto, and it's got "all of the charm of a city with all of the convenience of a town." Take that how you will, but it's done right by me the past few years! Hopefully things have worked out for you either way!
