Hello everyone! I'm a new New Leaf player so I've only played the game for about a week. I've read the very helpful guide on how to get a villager's picture or to increase your friendship with them and one of the things
that you should do is talk to your villager 6-10 times a day. I don't know if this is just something in my game or if this is in everyone's, I've noticed how annoyed the villagers can be just from talking to them 5+ times a day (most of the time the conversations being hours apart as I'm casually doing my own thing and only talk to them if they're walking by) they'll start to get annoyed with you such as jock villagers starting to think you're stalking them or peppy villagers will start to think you're cloned or say how they've seen you "for the upteenth time". Even my cranky villager won't get as annoyed by talking to them.

I never noticed them getting this easily annoyed in the previous games I've played and that you'd have to really go out of your way for them to give you a warning about talking too much such as in the Gamecube game. My question is do you really have to talk to villagers this much to increase your friendship with them? Do villagers get this annoyed in any other people's games? Is talking with them only once a day acceptable, does them pinging you or helping them with a sale at ReTail count as a conversation and does it decrease your friendship when this happens? Thank you!

You do not need to talk to them 5 to 10 times a day, and they will get annoyed if you talk to them to much. I rarely talk to them 5 times a day much less more than that.

It takes time to get their friendship up and get their picture. Just talk to them a few times and do an errand for them if they give you one. There are plenty of other things to do in your town. With time your friendship will grow.

Yes it takes awhile to get their pictures.
I start the day just walking around town and waiting for a ping.
Once I get my 1st ping I find out what they want.  Chore than I leave to do it.  If it's just to change a greeting or show me a letter I ask what new 3 times before leaving.
Leave and check on all the villager inside and outside to see if they need anything.  Repeat what I did with the 1st villager of the day.
Once I've done all the chores for the villagers I go about my day and wait for them to ping.

Writing letters with an item inside will help with your friendship levels.  If you can't get the item for them than say no.  If you do say yes to getting the fish or bug and fail mail them a letter saying your sorry.  That should remove the fail bug/fish.

A good sign that your friendship is getting higher is when they drop by your house or they invite you to sit on a bench with them.

Find that writing letters with item and doing as many tasks helps.
After an hour they wouldn't ping you so talk to the one that you haven't talk to a lot.

Thank you both so much for the reply and for the clear answer, I thought that was a bit off when I read that on some of the villager picture guides out there! No wonder why I was having this problem, I'm sure I'm driving them bananas! That's unfortunate the villagers have gotten to be more like this compared to the previous games, it was one of my favorite things to hear what they had to say. Thanks again for the answers and advice!
