I have known about it ever since I started playing, but haven't really done it because I felt like that it wouldn't only break the fun but it would also affect the unique gameplay feature of using the real time (which I'm a big fan of.)

A friend pushed me to do it in New Leaf yesterday, one day in the future and then back, and to my surprise, it turned out to be much more useful and fun than I thought. It was my first time, but I have kinda felt guilty doing it ever since I changed the time back.

I looked up other players' opinions on the matter, and most of the responses were either similar to mine, but some people said it's completely normal and just a "play style".

So, I thought it'd be helpful to ask you guys! Have you ever time traveled in an AC game, and if so, do you still do it? Do you think it's okay to do it from time to time? Thanks for the responses!

All of my towns are 1-3 years old, so I don't need to time travel anymore. I used to do it sometimes for events, to complete an upgrade, or because I wanted a villager to move in or out. There's no right or wrong way to play. It's YOUR game, so enjoy it!

for me personally I try to avoid TTing for the first year (with the exception of going back to play days I missed if real life gets in the way), but after that all bets are off and I'll TT as much as I want.

I don't think anyone is gonna judge you for it, especially since the game is 4 years old. just play however you want to play.

The problem really comes from when folks get a new AC game, and then in about ten days real time, they have a fully upgraded Nook's (or Nooklings in NL), full house upgrade, and so forth. Then they complain that AC is "boring". Well yeah, it was designed to be played 30-60 minutes a day, not 8 hours a day speedrunning everything!

Now, if you've played AC the "intended way" without TTing, and you later on find prefer TTing, then by all means, go ahead and do it! And if you're making a second town, you might pull your hair out playing it one day at a time, so TTing is a must. And of course sometimes you have to work on a holiday, so TTing to participate in the AC event is only fair.

I always strongly recommend my friends just try it the regular way first. If they don't try it, they won't "get" what makes AC so fun.

Yeah, I see what you mean, but I have been playing for years straight so I don't think I'm very new anymore hahah

After reading your guys responses I have actually felt a lot better with the idea. I originally thought everyone who would respond would get mad at me for not playing normally, but I'm glad how you guys view the concept.

I have been doing it the last few days, and while useful, the game has become pretty stressful, but I guess that's just a sign that I need to take a break from TT for a bit, even if I only traveled 3 day in total.

I feel like this is always a hot button issue whenever a new installment is released.

I honestly never understood why people got so angry about it.

In a game like Animal Crossing, what you do with your town and how you choose to play it effects no one's game but your own.

You want to time travel? Time travel.
You want to play in real time? Play in real time.

As an adult with a job and friends and hobbies it's impossible for me personally to enjoy the game without time travelling. Being able to time travel helps me to enjoy the game at my own pace without having it feel like a chore if I am too busy to play. I keep a spreadsheet in my google drive letting me know what the date is in each of my towns so if life gets too busy or I need a break, I can come back to where I left off.

I time traveled a lot in Wild World but that was years ago. I play too casually now to bother with time traveling.
