I've been expecting for a while now that it would be one of those "town-builder" games there are already too many of. I really hope it isn't. I don't expect it to work quite the same as the mainstream games, though.

Because he copied my signature! And he threw (nothing) at me! :(
I want to have high hopes for this, and I’m really trying to. I’m kind of worried though that it’ll end up being pay to play. If it’s buy it once and own it, I’m all for paying for it up front. If not, I’ll still give it a try. Regardless, it’ll be interesting to see how this goes! I’m not sure how an AC game would work on mobile.. so it’ll be exciting to see their new ideas.
I'm pretty sure they've already said that it won't be a full game and that it will be free but have in-app purchases.
They also mentioned ties to a full AC game which I'm really hoping is AC:Switch. They said no announcement about any Switch games tonight but I guess it's still possible they announce just the mobile game tonight and how it ties in later.

So, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. What do y'all think?
I'm actually mildly impressed, and i think this will be fun. At first, I thought it was going to be a decor game or something, but it's a real, actual full game and that excites me. I like the "leaf ID" so there's still "WiFi" and "Trading". I like the island and I like the villager friendships. I like the full body customization as well. And the net fishing actually made me REALLY excited, I've wanted something like this for so long. I hope there's some new villagers that we don't know about. Leaf tickets could cost me a lot of money though..
I'm less of a fan though of the like.. waiting for things to get built and whatnot. I mean I guess that's part of the gameplay but I've always been less of a fan of those types of games on my phone.
I still have this gut feeling though that I'd rather play this on a console with a controller of sorts, and playing on a touch screen only will be a little bit frustrating for me, but I'm still super excited nonetheless. Now.. bring on the switch game.
I've been the best at letting people down
I've never been the kind of person you can trust
I think it looks cool! I’m a little wary, and I kinda hope it’ll allow for amiibo cards? To summon some villagers so it’s not just random? But we’ll see when it launches I suppose! I hope they’re planning for a switch animal crossing
Hope you're having a great day!

Agreed. I saw quite a few "timers" there; shaking a tree spawned a timer, when the narrator talked to a villager it had a timer until they moved... I'm sure Leaf Tickets can be spent to speed up the timer, too.

Hard to say. I know the iPhone NFC reader is locked to Apple Pay, so I'm not sure if they'd add it just for us Android users or not.
I watched the direct and it just looks like HHD only it's set in a campground. They did add a place for us to live and fish/bug hunt.
HHD was played for awhile and than a lot of players stopped. It didn't have the long gameplay like a full AC game. I'm tired of lets put a bandage on it with HHD and than the update for ACNL. Sure it kept players happy for awhile but now I want a full AC game. For now I'm not going to buy a mobile game. Going to continue with ACNL until a new full AC game comes out.

It will be free and accessible to so many more people than previous games so that should help.
I have to wonder what Nintendo's goal is with this. If it's to make money, I think the game will be painful to play without spending money. If it's to draw people into AC and get them to buy the next full game, it could be awesome. Many mobile games are designed to be boring without spending money, but I'm hoping Nintendo goes a different route seeing that they could just be using this to promote the next full AC and just have put in-app purchases there because everyone else does it.

It looks alright. I'll definitely play it. I'm just concerned about the replay value of the game... What happens when you finally build your campsite the way you want it to look? It doesn't seem there's really much else to do besides remodelling your campsite I guess.
I suppose it will be a nice way to tide us over until they finally release a Switch game.
To celebrate Animal Crossing's 15th anniversary,
I spend a whole year in Animal Crossing for Gamecube. (Link in profile!)
I, for one, am excited for Pocket Camp. They added those new characters, Giovanni, Carlo, and Beppe (I think they're crows?), who look like neat dudes. I don't mind the pay to play aspect; I'll just wait it out. Really hoping for the Switch installment, though.
Just a regular kid~
Or am I a squid?
I'm pretty excited for this app! There is a lot more depth to it that I expected, much more than HHD. It's similar enough to the main series games that it still feels like animal crossing, but it's also different enough that it includes many new concepts and ideas that we haven't experienced yet. I love the idea of designing a campsite where villagers can visit. Seems super customizable, too, which I love.
I like that the game is not strictly just designing the campsite. Although that is the main goal, it also includes things like fishing, bug catching, character customization, and doing favors for villagers. I think this is is what really sets it apart from HHD.
My only real concern is that the leaf tickets (i think that's what they're called? I can't remember lol) will be so scarce in normal gameplay that players will feel like they need to buy them in order to get good use out of them. I really hope that's not the case.
I do agree with others who said they don't like the type of games that make you wait long hours for things to build, but at the same time, so many apps like this contain that aspect nowadays. It's something that is to be expected at this point. It's sad, but true.
I think this app has potential to be great! I wish it would come out sooner!
Better a live coward than a dead hero.
The direct really just kind of snuck up on me, so I was pleasantly surprised when I got the notification on my phone. We've known that there was going to be a mobile app for a while now but Pocket Camp is much, much better than I expected. It introduces a lot of new things that I hope will cross over into the next mainline AC game, and really I just feel like, to Nintendo, this is their chance to try out a few different things to kind of gauge interest and get feedback. The best part about this whole thing to me - so much so that I'm willing to overlook the microtransactions and what not - is that this is a FREE Animal Crossing game that anyone could pick up and play without having to throw down $60 or so for a game that they might not even like. I've seen people say that they just don't get why Animal Crossing is so popular, and with Pocket Camp being so similar gameplay-wise to the main games, yet so different, this makes it an excellent and easily accessible gateway into the series!
Really, this game feels like a demo of sorts to bring in new and curious players, and tide over fans like us. Pokemon Go got people excited for Sun & Moon, so I'm hoping Pocket Camp will garner even more interest for the inevitable switch installment WHICH I HOPE COMES OUT NEXT YEAR I BOUGHT MY SWITCH FOR THIS
