So as of posting this, Catalonia is in the process of becoming independent from Spain, so I thought I would ask about adding it to the list of countries on user profiles. I know it's not recognised yet and it's still technically part of Spain, but it's probably worth the advanced idea of adding it to the list when it's an independent country. This post isn't from a political background, but, it's worth suggesting it.
I agree with Eden. I have no issue with adding it to the list, however it needs to be an internationally recognised, independent country, with its own constitution, flag, national anthem, independent government, etc.
Sometimes it's the people no-one imagines anything of,
who do the things that no-one can imagine.
Eh, we have Hong Kong on the list and that's not internationally recognised as an independent country. I don't really have an opinion either way, but I don't think that adding separatist regions is necessarily a political statement on our part.
707, if I understood you right, then you're saying that regions that aren't recognised but have the requirements of being an independent country, can be added to the country list? If that's what you mean, then that would let Abkhazia and South Ossetia be on the list as well as Catalonia if that were to be added.
Much like the 1930s Catalan Republic, the 8 Second Republic fell and its president has been captured by Germans. History repeats itself.
Anyway, it would make sense to add internationally unrecognized independent countries to the list, though Catalonia no longer falls under that category. We have some on the list that are only partially recognized, so we might as well include others.
