There are probably countless other threads all over ACC about this, but as I recently reset (and because I wasn't in the mood to look through about 5-10 pages of threads), I made a new one. The title pretty much says everything: What did you name your town, and why - and if any, what were your past ones?
Over time, I've always named my town after real-life locations since my first town in City Folk / Let's Go to the City. But on the topic of New Leaf, my first town was called Moscow, and I knew barely anything at the time about the game, so I ended up just filling it with items, flowers and a few PWPs, and I kept all my Bells in my pockets so I couldn't pick anything up. I realised that I didn't like the town so much now, and so I made a new town on a new game card - named Moskva, which was literally the same but in Russian. Moskva was much better, but after some time, I just gave up on Moscow, and after resetting it and passing items on so I could get them on my Moskva game cartridge, I made it an extra town for a community I know well. Sadly this was short-lived, though, because after only about a week, the cartridge stopped working, and I did whatever I could, but I couldn't make it work again, so I ended up just ditching that game card. Meanwhile, Moskva was reset as well, and I passed all my items on as I'd just got a new game card to play ACNL on, but I removed the game-card from my 3DS, and it ironically stopped working too. This made me decide that I wanted to play on only one game card and I was determined to improve everything. This is what I did - when I made my new town, Rostov. It was probably my favourite town, but after a while I noticed that I could do with a new start, as Rostov's river and villagers and rocks and all of that were too hard to work around, so I reset that town after about 6 months of playing, and made my new town, which is called Chukotka. This town is going really well and I'm very happy with it - I can't take all credit to this for myself, because normaheath, a good friend, gave me some Bells and some things which I needed - bush starts, perfect apples, and more. Other friends who are not on ACC also helped me, and Riesz's giveaway was a useful place for me to get some more things.
Sorry about posting an essay. TL;DR: I made a lot of towns and my current one is probably my favourite.
So, where did you get your ACNL town name(s) from? What about past ones? Do you have any future names you're considering? Do you like your town's name?
The towns I've had are Cardiff (ACWW), Aperture (ACWW, later reset and named Achieve), Geronimo (ACNL) Aperture (ACNL).
Cardiff was named so because I wanted to name my first town something related to Doctor Who, which is filmed in Cardiff, Wales.
I'm not sure why I named Aperture in WW that, I might've recently played Portal, or seen a hairstyle/outfit that reminded me of Chell. Aperture in ACNL was named after this town because I liked the name.
Achieve was created because I planned on replaying WW, and I also didn't want two towns named the same (I'd already named Aperture NL). It was named Achieve because I'd decided I wanted second towns to be "video game related", so it was named after Achievement Hunter. I never ended up replaying WW.
Geronimo was named as such because I wanted first towns to be "Doctor Who" related. I couldn't figure out what to name it for a while, but I was also listening to the Sheppard album Bombs Away at the time, and as I was thinking the CD restarted and the song "Geronimo" started playing. Instant lightbulb
14 hrs ahead of ACC time / LF: Most WA items
All of my towns since the original AC on Gamecube have been called Hyrule. I figured everyone uses it so I needed a change. I named my NL town Keywork from the Amory Wars series of comic books that the band Coheed and Cambria are based on. They're my favorite band!
Fear Through the Eyes of Madness ~ The Fiction Will See the Real
My town is called Flydale. Originally I named it that because I thought it sounded nice and I couldn't remember where I'd heard it, but on a rewatch of Doctor Who it turns out Harriet Jones was the MP for Flydale North so that must be where I got the name from. Seems a lot of town names are Doctor Who inspired!
In WW and CF, my town's name is juneland because my birthday is in June.
In my first NL town (I still have it) is Hogwarts (I love Harry Potter) and my new NL town is Imrie (pronounced "I'm ree"). In middle and high school I was into this band called The Click Five and their first album's name is "Greetings from Imrie House"
John 3:16, Ephesians 2:10, and Philippians 4:13. I love The Skit Guys.
I finally own a 3DS & my own copy of NL, WOOT!!!
My town is called Noodle! I've had this one for two years in December. I named it after a nickname I gave my sister's orange tabby cat. She's a lanky, slippery thing.
I had a town before this one that I named Eldorado, and that town was named after a previous town that I loved dearly. I lost both games totally tragically, and this one I have named Noodle because I didn't want to feel pressure to make it as cool as either of my Eldorado towns.
They were named Eldorado because my sister and I got the game at the same time when it was released, and she named her town Atlantis. She still has her original town!?
And remember... Bad times are just times that are bad
Anywhere (ACPG) -Rover asked me where I wanted to go and I typed in Anywhere. I was young and innocent XD
G-Corp (ACWW) -I wanted to play around with ideas. This is a town with a dark secret. It's very science-y and does experiments on villagers. There are also Gyroids everywhere.... always watching.
Treestar (ACCF) -I got this game after New Leaf so I wanted to make a town that sounded like make believe. I haven't started to play yet but I wanted it to be very magical and maybe a little odd and trippy
Carousel (ACNL) -I wanted a colorful town! and it was going to be exactly that! I went in with a carnival theme and ended with a cutesy theme instead because I was able to recolor the kiddie set (my favorite set even when it's not reolored) I have no regrets and every character in town has a different theme so my town really is like a carousel (each person is unique~)
What AC:WW taught me: Always carry a clean cup with you~
Hello, my first post in a while and this interested me
But starting off! In ACWW I named my first town Aveyond (an RPGMaker game I played the demo of and was obsessed with. Never played the game but the graphics were cute and I liked the name ¯\_(ツ_/¯ After restarting twice by ruining my towns with a bunch of action replay I started another town named Polar. It was simple-winter was my favorite season (snowmen!!) and I loved winter hats. Little to no thought went into it.
In ACCF I named it Orlando (because I knew a lot of people tended to name their towns New York for some reason and I wanted to be edgy). Just as I've never been to Florida, I haven't touched that game in several years.
In ACNL I named it Anatolie because I'd been thinking about a manga named Anatolia Story for whatever reason. Putting aside the fact that Anatolia is actually...a thing... it was unique and but still reminds us of the real world vs video game. And to me the villagers and town are real enough
(This really made me realize how little effort I put into my town names..yikes.)
My very first City Folk town was named after the town where I live. I've had several names since then. In my New leaf towns, my towns are New Town (Because I couldn't think of anything else and my main character moved to this "new" town.), My second town is Sweetpea ( I tend to name my towns after flora or fauna based names.), and My third town is Foxfort (This town was on the used disk I had purchased last year and haven't changed it.).
GG loves ACCF/ACNL and now Happy Home Designer.
my current main town's called lsd after the video game lsd dream emulator (so you can visit a dream town about a game about dreams). it's a weird, funky-lookin' town.
my side town is called wherever because i kept resetting it for different town themes and finally decided to just make it so i can move in whoever i feel like without theming the town.
and now i am considering buying another cartridge to make another themed town. t'would be called teufort, because tf2 is my current hyperfixation and i wouldn't mind building a town around it. still just in the deciding phase of that though.
My town name is Gnomedal, a fall themed town! I based it off of the word Gnome.
Past Towns Creamed - perfect Cake Pop - Perfect - I still have this town but I don't play it at all... RIP Cute - First town ever - Perfect Cute was deleted because my favorite villager and friend, Bertha, moved away. I raged quit basically. I regret it to this day... In Cute there where no paths because I didnt know what a qr code was. I tried to scan a french fry box... XD While I was thinking of a name, I...yeah I could not think of one so I just said, CUTE! And I clicked on the first map rover showed me because I didnt know there where more. But actully I think it was the best map I will ever see. Three house where placed on the bottom left of the map, right by them was a waterfall and the houses by the water fall where awesome looking. I had Tipper, Bertha, Goose, Peanut, Bones and that is all I can remember...I loved Bones, Tipper and Bertha. I feel like your very first town will always be your favorite... well that is how it is with me. I remember one thing that was awesome that happened at cute, it was Tipper's birthday, I got her a little cute lamb potty because I thought it suited her house. She said something like "Did you read my diary?" The next day I got a letter. Inside there was a throne. I sold it for 800,000 bells and spent all the money on pwps.. I will miss Cute forever. Bye... I think im going to go cry in the corner for a while... XD While I was writing this post I listened to this song
Keep your lips and purse sealed.
I can't remember my first true town name. My first game was City Folk. In New Leaf, my town name is Narnia . Just reminds me of a magical place and my best friend at the time had that town name so I kinda stole it.
My first town in the Gamecube version was Big town (The B was a Bell symbol.) I wasn't quite creative with names back when I got the game. Then I forgot the name of my old Wild World town but I think it was Aniville. (Combining Animal and village.) The I name my City folk town after a Pokemon Town which was Sandgem Town. Decided to delete my town in my GCN version and named the new towns Onett (After Ness' hometown in Eathbound) and Hyrule (Since my new Character's name is Link.) And then new Lead My old town was Labrynna named after the land from Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons, and I deleted the town name named it Hoenn after my favorite Pokemon region. Deleted it again after the Welcome Amiibo update and finally named it after the Undertale town of Snowdin. I gave my Wild World to my Nephew sadly.

My very first town was on City Folk..I made it when I was about 10. I sat there for probably a good 15 minutes trying to come up with a cute, unique name that sounded somewhat whimsical...I went with "Yulu Elm". Not sure what I was thinking
My second town was in Wild World a few years later. I came up with the name "Hideout" pretty easily, I just thought it sounded cute and cozy, and I still do, although I'm pretty sure it's a relatively common town name.
My most recent town, in New Leaf, is called "Emerald" simply because it's my birth stone.
Better a live coward than a dead hero.
tapdancer - I had a town called that but what's creepy is that my game card stopped working and when it started to work again that town had been corrupted and it deleted itself...
My first post made no sense when I look back:
- Moscow: Named after the Russian capital but badly failed and became totally overrun by flowers. Deleted that town. It was at 1am and several years and countless days, maybe months ahead. I blame using an old 3ds with corrupted time settings. - Moskva: Second attempt at Moscow but with the Russian name. I ended up deleting this one as well due to the terrible placement. - Rostov: A much better town, but in the end it turned out that Rostov was not the town for me and it was too painful to work around villagers moving in on the same day as they plotted sometimes, so no chance for plot resetting. Then, I had enough of it when two villagers destroyed the main paths around town. The river layout was also too hard to work with so I just reset. - Chukotka: My current town and I'm very happy with it. My plans are already beginning to form the town - one side of the river is going to be mainly nature and water paths and the other will be more of an industrial part with expensive PWPs and most of the houses. I have a picture on my PC of the map plans so I know what I'm doing.
With my other two game cards I'll probably end up making other towns for different things. I'm planning a winter town for one of the game cards.
Yes, about Pripyat. It was literally empty though, and nothing was done, so I don't know how it happened. Thanks for the message also - no other town I've had has ever corrupted, which confuses me more, but I want to try again in the future, maybe not another Pripyat but another town based around horror.
