Hi guys,

Going to sell my town to tom nook as I've never really been happy with my town map and I've found it so difficult to landscape and get any depth.

Just looking for some advice really..

1) what makes a decent town map? I know it's mostly down to preference but what key things stick out for the majority of players?

I also have a few questions to anyone that's started again via selling to tom nook.

1) My town is the required level to actually sell but is there anything you can do to maximise the amount that will be offered by tom nook or is it completely random.

2) Do you keep your current list of PWP that have been unlocked? If yes, does this include the train station or do you need to unlock 100 visitors again to the new town?

3) Do bells in the ABD count towards your sale price? If yes, I assume if you don't mind selling the catalog it's best to sell everything and deposit into the post office to maximise the price offered?

4) Have many of you gone down this route by selling your town and what cemented your final decision?

5) There are some items that I want to save, would anyone be willing to hold these for me until I've set up the new town?

Thanks xxx

I can hold on to your items. I've never sold my town to Nook before though, so I can't really help answer your questions. As for maps, I usually look to see if it has a secluded beach, love those and how the buildings are separated. If Retail is too close to town hall for example I look for another map.

I like having the Retail near the dock so when I come back from the island with a full basket I don't have to run clear across town to sell the stuff. Same with the mayors house, near retail but near the dock too.

I am a so-called fickle pickle and I am on my 4th town... since 2013 when the game came out. I also tend to get bored when I have unlocked everything, grown the hybrids I want and the rest.

One suggestion I always read about, is having as much as the river going up and down vertically - it is much easier to fish that way. Like the other replies suggest, it depends what you want to have as your focus.

It used to be that gaining lots of bells from farming island beetles was my thing in choosing a map, so I had retail close to the dock.

But, with the Welcome Amiibo update, Tom will buy your current town and pay more depending on how far you have gone with the town, there is a lot that determines that, you could probably find out more by searching.

I also have found sites in the past when I did sell my town last fall after the update that explains the options he gives you when you sell your town, for example he gives you the choice of giving you one lump sum of bells or giving you daily deposits of bells into your bank, which in the end gives you more bells than if you were to choose one lump sum.

Because he will now buy your old town, I did not worry as much where my Retail was. What was important to me was having Town Hall and Retail close to my character's home. I like having my home near the dock. I also had plenty of space in that area to include the Cafe, Police Station and camp site all close to my home. All of that separated by the river with the rest of the town map. The Plaza was separate in the larger area on the other side of the river from my home and the other buildings I mentioned.

One thing to remember, which I think is so awesome, is that you retain your catalog inventory and all unlocked PWPs from the town you are going to sell to Tom.

To me it makes it a little more tempting to start over if you are not happy with your town.

Please excuse being like Blathers and replying with a long post.

One thing that really irritates me with maps is having a long stretch of land that is too small to put anything on. Ideally, I would want a river cut clear across the town even though that's not possible.

I got this game the day it came out, and I've had four different towns. My first restart was because I downloaded the game, and then my 3DS broke. But the two others after that were purposeful (and very recent actually). My current town layout is my favorite. What makes a good town layout to me is being able to make the most straight, direct paths possible between everything in the town. I can walk down in a straight line from my gate directly to my pier, and I love that. It's hard to get a layout like that, though - it took me a at least 20 different maps to get it. I also need ample room to make my house. I like to plant bushes around my house and make it have a nice garden, so I need enough space to do that.

Basically, you have to know what you want. Also, my river is completely contained on the left half of my town, and I love that.
