An idea that came to mind was that the banner would change its sky based on the time of day. This could be achieved using a transparent background, and using CSS (for the time). Therefore, during the day it would be sunny, and such. And at night it would be night. I wouldn't consider this a top priority but I think it would look extremely nice and give a nice kick to the banner.
This is an amazing idea! It reminds me of a similar feature at the Bell Tree Forums where the background changes according to the time of day. I agree that it is not a top-priority feature. Perhaps it could be one of the new features launching with ACC 2.0!
This is a great idea, Maddy. I personally would love a banner that changes with time, much like the site backgrounds do for the seasons! You are correct this can be achieved by using a transparent background. I look forward to any graphic ideas people may have for the banner, but I'm picturing something similar to The Bell Tree Forums.
My only concern is, would this have the possibility of slowing the site down? I remember that the snowflakes falling in winter were removed. I believe it was because of the bounce, or that it slowed the site down. This idea would be great, anyway. I support an implementation like this!
If I had my own world
I’d build you an empire
from here to the farlands
to spread love like violence
I definitely don't think this would significantly slow the site down, let alone at all, as it is basically just an image displaying behind another image, like the backgrounds on avatars do, and there are hundreds of thousands of members.

Although I can't say for sure, I don't see how it would. It would run the same way the clock does, plus I can't imagine there'd be a lot of different images for the background. Probably one for morning, one for day, and one for night? Because, if the background was changing every single minute during a sun set/rise, I think that could then slow the site down.
