I just wanted to to suggest keeping the Festive Avatars for longer because, while Christmas may be over, the other holidays are still going strong. For example, Kwanzaa just started today and the avatars aren't available for those who celebrate it now. Also, Hannukah is different every year, but this year it goes on until January 1st.
Because of Hannukah changing every year, the Festive Avatars should not just be from December 20th to the 25th at midnight, because it could completely miss the holiday (for example, last year it was from the 6th until the 14th - and the Festive avatars started December 20th - but correct me if I'm wrong). I have a couple ideas as to how we can solve this.
1. A Feature for Administrators to Set A Custom Time for Festive Avatars (Or kill two birds with one stone and have this feature for all the other special avatars too - you never know when it may be needed. Plus it could reuse some of the code!)
2. Manual Change of the Festive Avatar Time in the Code (This wouldn't be too hard to implement - all it is is the changing of some things in the code)
3. Have Festive Avatars from November 28 to the end of December - January 1st to be exact (Hannukah can start as early as November 28, according to Business Insider.) - However, there could be a couple changes to this, such as individual switches/times for these avatars, as having Christmas and Kwanzaa avvies this early would be kind of weird.
I think this is a great idea! My preference would be for administrators to be able to customise the date ranges within which avatars will be available, because it means the developers wouldn't have to do anything extra to organise future time-limited avatars - we could just add them to the site and let the admins decide when to arrange them - but either of your other two suggestions would also work as stop-gap measures if it's too difficult or can't be done in time.
There's no place like 192.168.0.0/16.
Time zone: ACC+5... maybe? DST abolition can't come soon enough.
Thanks, GoldenCelebi! I agree, option one (if possible) would be the best way to go about doing this. The administrator feature would be very useful and time-saving because, as you said, no extra time would need to be spent on the code to set times for the avatars to appear every year.
I think this is a great idea! It shouldn't be too difficult to adjust the "accessibility date range" of the avatars. In all technicality, the Animal Crossing winter season lasts from late November to ~Feb 18. While it may be a bit excessive to keep certain Festive Avatars for that long, it's not totally illogical to keep them around till sometime in January as "winter avatars."
I'll bring this to the rest of the staff. =)
Thank you for the Reese memories (7/9/13-9/27/17)
