So basically I spilled water on my new amiibos cards. I dried them off quickly. I tested one on HHD and my whole 3ds froze. I couldn't even press home or turn of the power I had to hold the power button down to turn it off. This happened twice in a row. I don't want to the them in NL because I don't want anything to happen to my game. Did this happen because I spilled water or ate the new RV campers not compatible with HHD and that's why I got the glitch? I'm sad
EDIT: we're good. I scanned them in the amiibo camera and they worked. Amiibo cards can withstand a bit of water damage but they will freeze up HHD.

I recently learned the data-holding chip within the card can be scanned into a reader through the card and reader itself.
Warning note to anyone who keeps their cards in a binder/portfolio:Do not slide the amiibo reader below a page to scan the card if there's another page beneath it! This has a chance of reading the card beneath it / through the reader itself. And if that card is a Welcome Amiibo card, it will freeze your entire 3DS console unit.
I lost out on a very timely Monthly Challenge entry because of this. I should have known though, as I learned the cards can be scanned through the top via accidentally scanning Hans from the page below when I was actually scanning Friga on the page above. It was quite spooky to see Hans arrive at the location when I didn't scan him, and then realizing his card was directly below the reader itself. And when my console froze, I had been scanning deer villagers that I keep on the last Series I-IV page, only to have it accidentally scan one of the Welcome Amiibo series cards on the page beneath. I waited several minutes, the game was froze, couldn't exit to home menu - had to hold power for many seconds for it to shut off.
