Discussion for Skyrim and other Elder Scrolls games too.

The new Skyrim Special Edition is releasing in a couple days! Anyone gonna play it again or play it for the first time?

I've only played maybe 8 hours on the original game but stopped since it was overwhelming, plus Lydia died.

I'm gonna get it probably for Christmas but I'm using this time to decide what I want my future character to do.

I'm not gonna be buying Special Edition, but Skyrim is one of my favorite games of all time. So many little secrets and easter eggs in the game. I bought the game a month or two after it's release, and I've put an obscene amount of time into it, and yet there are still some things in the game that I haven't done yet. I kinda wasn't sure about the game when I first started playing, but after I did a few quests, I was hooked. Definitely a game you can put several hundred hours into. Modding the game makes it that much better, too.

Super pumped for Elder Scrolls 6.

I currently have Skyrim for PC, what are some good mods for it?

I'm mostly wanting Special Edition because I love getting achievements (more-so than Steam achievements), plus I just kinda prefer to play on console since I just have a "gaming" laptop.

I don't really know, since I play on console, but I've seen some mods that make some cool changes to the game. Not really sure of the names, though. I just kinda skipped through a few Skyrim mod videos.

Sweet. I'm craving a open world RPG that I can sink hours into, and I have several games I still need to continue such as Dragon Age Inquisition and Witcher 3.

Is there any advice you could give to me since you've sunk a lot of time into the game?

Like any tips for starting out? I heard you can apparently get married and own a house and dog or something. I still am missing on pretty much everything there is to do in the game.

Things such as easiest ways of making money early on? Where to find stronger armor, etc. I know of the strongest armor you can get in the game, which I don't need to know about that just yet lol.

But if you have any tips or warnings for certain things in the game, feel free to let me know.

I play it on both the Microsoft and Sony consoles, but I'm super excited to buy the special edition on the Nintendo Switch. Ever since Oblivion came out, which was the previous Elder Scrolls game, and I heard rumors that a portable title was in the works, I was obsessed with playing a game of this type on a handheld. That never came to fruition of course. Now Nintendo has made that all possible with the Switch.

I'm about 70 hours into my main on the PS3, a High Elf mage, level 56, with max sneak, speech, destruction, restoration, conjuration, block, one-handed skill, and smithing. I generally twink out my characters in most of these games and Skyrim was no exception. Later when I got the Xbox360 version and had heard about the stat boost for High Elves based on their larger character model, I created another High Elf character on that system, but I'm only at level 28 with that one. I find that I prefer the PlayStation version to the Xbox version for Skyrim.

Well, that's my two cents on it. I need to start playing it again. I never finished the main questline. Also, I want to play through once choosing the Imperial side, which I couldn't bring myself to do during my first run-through.

I don't want to say too much because this is a game that puts a lot of emphasis on exploring and finding little secrets and stuff for yourself, but the best way to get money when you're just starting out is to basically kill bandits and stuff and just take everything they have. Armor, weapons, potions ect should all be sold, even if they're not worth much. Also make sure to loot any chest you see, because they'll often have gold and jewels and stuff. If you're interested in going the thief route, I recommend joining the Thieves Guild. There's this one member of it that you can sell stolen goods to. Plus, it's a pretty interesting guild, and I enjoyed the questline a lot.

When it comes to finding good armor and weapons, basically just do quests and play the game, and you'll find them as you go. Sometimes people will give you weapons and armor as a reward, or you might kill a bad guy who has better armor or a better weapon. You can also buy weapons and armor from blacksmiths and shopkeepers, but don't expect to find anything amazingly useful from them. They have decent stuff in the early stages of the game, but that's about it. If you're interested in the super high end weapons and armor, you can level up your smithing skill. There might be more effective ways to do it, but how I leveled it up is just making as many iron daggers as possible, and then selling them afterward. Just keep in mind that leveling it up can get a bit pricey, because unless you just run around finding iron ore veins in the wild, you'll probably need to buy iron, and other materials, to make the daggers. Getting the high end armor isn't necessary at all though, and you can find super good and unique sets of armor and weapons from doing the guild questlines and just doing quests in general.

I wouldn't look up too many guides. The game is best enjoyed by just going in blind and exploring it for yourself IMO.

Sorry for late reply, thanks for all the tips!

I just got the game for Christmas, started it with mods and realized you couldn't get achievements with mods on even though I'm just making the game add more trees and look even better. So now I'm playing a Redguard character which I'll probably focus on leveling up one-handed, heavy armor, archery and others I'm not sure yet. Really excited to continue!

Skyrim is my favorite game of all time and I never played a Skyrim Special Edition, but I hope it will be worth playing as I do not know if I will have my saving in the new version of Skyrim. I always played this game when I had nothing to do and wanted to chill *content removed*
