^ I would recommend Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2, much more so if you didn't own MK8 and Splatoon 1 on the Wii U. ARMS is really good too, if you like fighters. And of course Zelda as well, if you don't own it on the Wii U.
If Harvest Moon type games are up your alley, definitely get Stardew Valley when it comes out. It's a really great game, and much better than recent Harvest Moons from what a lot of people have told me. Definitely a must buy if you're a fan of the genre.
Mario + Rabbids got really good reviews too, so I would consider that if you like strategy games.

If you like RPGs, my sister bought one from the Switch eShop called Oceanhorn. It was only like $15.00 or so. She loves it and I looked at it and the graphics look pretty good, bright and clear. I'm going to get it as soon as I get done with the new Metroid coming Friday on the 3DS.
Of course, there is Breath of the Wild but prepare to play a lloooonnnnggg time. I just had to take a break from it.
Has anyone heard a release date for Stardew Valley? Rumor also has a Story of Seasons coming out also.

I skipped the Wii U completely, so this is a whole new 'generation' for me. i purchased MK8 with the system, and really enjoy it so far; Zelda and Splatoon 2 were both very close seconds, and games that I might wind up picking up, though the time to play Zelda concerns me. I'm read about Stardew Valley, and am excited about potentially trying it out.. it sounds completely up my alley. Thank you!

I never would have looked at Oceanhorn on my own, but having looked at it just now, it seems really cool, and I might buy it with my remaining funds after buying Overcooked. It seems like a hybrid game that might be kind of cool to play.
Breath of Wild conceptually interests me, but I'm not at a place in life where I have a lot of time to play, so I'm more enjoying of games that I can pick up and put down and not be totally lost. Maybe in the future I'll get it.
Nintendo.com still says "2017" for Stardew Valley. I take that to mean it's probably going to release the beginning of December, but I could be wrong with that.

BotW is actually the best Zelda game for this, imo, as most of it is "explore at your own pace, anywhere and any way you want it!" So unlike other Zelda games, there's little guidance other than a little blip on the map of where to go to progress the story, which isn't hard to follow at all!
However, it was kinda hard to put down in a sense that there's SO much to free roam that (if you're like me) you just wanna do and see it all haha!

That's why I had to put it down for awhile. I just would get so distracted doing the free roaming. I needed to play a game that had some structure for awhile.
"It's comfortable to play, easy to use, and I love that I can dock it or play handheld. "
I forgot to comment on this. I so agree, there is just something so comfortable about the handheld part.
I have had a few little hiccups. Was so glad I put a screen saver on it because I must have docked it at the wrong angle and got two scratches on it but it was on the saver not my screen! Then my left Joy-con went out. I've heard that's the one that usually quits working. Blessedly I have a great relationship with the lady at my GameStop and she just traded it in for me, didn't have to deal with Nintendo over it.
"Some of my friends complained that BotW's main quest is too short. I guess the bulk of your playtime is exploring sidequests?"
Oh yeah, if you go for 100% it could take forever. For example there are these little things you can collect called Korok seeds and there are 900 of them. You only need like 400 of them to unlock things but there are an additional 500 more. They are literally from the bottom of the lakes to the very top of the mountains.
BotW's open world is exactly why I love it so much. I can still get addicted to it, but that's only because I enjoy exploring so much. You should see my hero's path (DLC feature); it's all over the map. A friend sunk over 165 hours into it before getting sucked into Splatoon 2. I've done over 150 hours (on the Switch, which I bought in June; I'm scared to see how much time I've spent on the Wii U version), and despite beating it, there's still a ton of things to do.
The best thing about playing a huge open world is you can do whatever, whenever, it's totally up to you. You can follow the story or ignore it completely. For example, I did this (spoiler, highlight to read):
As soon as I got out of the tutorial area, I did whatever I pleased. I beat the game without meeting Impa, releasing any of the Divine Beasts, getting the Master Sword or even picking up the Hylian Shield. I wasn't unprepared, though. I completed over 100 Shrines and collected over 500 Korok Seeds.
That same friend who at last count spent over 10 hours playing Splatoon 2 has also downloaded Monster Hunter XX, which will NOT be localized in NA. There's a collaboration with Ghosts and Goblins and BotW that looks cool...
Super Mario Odyssey is FUN. I was able to play a demo at a Nintendo World Championship Qualifier in my area. They also demoed Samus Returns, which was pretty cool.
Speaking of demos, there are a few on Switch. Also watch some of the trailers in the News section. That Nindies 2017 one is good.
I'm looking forward to Odyssey quite a bit! However it seems like the only game worth waiting for, unless I am missing some good ones.
I was on the fence about Pokken bc i don't really like fighting games toooo much but do like pokemon, but the demo turned me off from it a bit more. Just a bunch of button mashing ha!
Yep, Odyssey is the big one. I really enjoyed exploring New Donk City.
I was looking forward to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and Fire Emblem Warriors, but my enthusiasm dampened when I actually saw the trailers. Still keeping them in mind, though.
I have Rime preordered and am also looking forward to Stardew Valley.
Can't wait for some of the stuff that's being planned, but some of these might not get localized (if you can read Japanese, don't forget Switch is region-free):
Shin Megami Tensei Taiko no Tatsujin "Tales of" series Dragon Quest Builders 2 Dragon Quest XI (N3DS version already out in Japan)
Stuff friends are looking forward to that will get localized (be surprising if they don't):
Fire Emblem Kirby Yoshi Pokemon Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons
*edit: Derp, can't believe I forgot about Skyrim! ...But also remember Nintendo will start charging for multiplayer in 2018.
Can't wait for Fire Emblem Warriors. I don't know why, but I've really been itching for it this past week. I blame the sudden want on me passing up a copy of Hyrule Warriors on sale, since I knew FE:W is right around the corner.

Like, a lot of stuff, but also nothing because indecisive
Skyrim is releasing a lot sooner than I expected and with a lot more extras than expected. And if you're like me and have all the Zelda Amiibo, you're going to have SO much more fun.
The new Xenoblade 2 trailers are much better and have restoked my interest. The Fire Emblem Warriors Collector's Edition looks fantastic for an extra $20. I've had to cancel a bunch of preorders (for games and for other stuff, it was really hard choosing), and any eShop-only games will have to wait even longer.
The Zelda Champions Amiibo look to be releasing ahead of the 2nd DLC pack, which still doesn't have a specific date, unless I missed something? Anyway, can't wait to start scanning.
I'm really excited for both Fire Emblem Warriors and Super Mario Odyssey. It's just a shame that they're releasing within one week of each other. It's going to make it nearly impossible for me to make much progress on either of them!
Did anybody try out the Project Octopath Traveler demo? I really enjoyed it, and am totally digging that art style. This will definitely be a must buy for me when the game releases next year.

Well, I finally got a Switch. Don't ask me how I'm enjoying it though. By the time I bought the console, a carrying case and a screen protector, I had no money left to buy a game. But at least I got one. I do have a quick question. Can I only charge it in the dock? Also, I've heard of some problems with the Switch, like the battery overheating and actually melting it. Is that for real, and how do I avoid it? What can I say? I spent $400 on all this.

You can charge it out of the dock with any USB type 3 charger. I actually got one with my pro-controller so I use that. As for the battery overheating and melting, that is very very unlikely. I assume you saw one of those articles on the internet stating all the "issues" with the switch like the Switch warping, etc. These issues are happing in less than 1% of the user-base. Defects like that are very rare. Just don't like put your Switch in an oven or something.

Well, I guess I'd better go out and look for one. I plan on taking it down to work with me for the long boring weekends to switch from my 3DS. (Puns, I've got them).

Actually, I was told that by a GameStop employee. The way he talked, it sounded like a widespread problem, but with my luck, I'd hit it.

Your switch does come with one, it's just normally connected to the dock. You can always unhook the charger from the dock and take it with you!

Oh wow, that surprises me. But trust me, it's a very rare occurrence. If it does happen you can come back and say "I told ya so".
I have had mine basically charging in the dock since release date and it's not done any thing. I never heard that one TBH.
I would put a screen saver on it though. I have a screensaver on mine and I would recommend it. I have two scratches on mine (well. on the screensaver), have no idea if it happened during docking or when I took it with somewhere. I put screensavers on everything!
"Just don't like put your Switch in an oven or something"
tonight's dinner special is oven roasted switch with melted screen
Second the screen protector though. Last thing you want is to ruin that beautiful screen.
I never knew the dock cord was a charger though. That makes me able to be so much lazier when I'm playing in bed at night.. I no longer have to get up to charge it before I fall asleep.
I bit the bullet and purchased Oceanhorn the other day and I really like it so far. It's enough to keep me entertained and it's actually really fun.
Re: Switch overheating, try not to play any really intensive games like BotW when it's hot out. We had some really hot days (and more this week, lucky us), like 90s F, and I don't have air conditioning, just electric fans. Temps that make you too sluggish to do anything but game if you can. Within moments of loading, that fan not only kicked on, but started whining something awful.
No warping, overheating or crashing, luckily, but it was scary enough for me to limit my gaming time to 30 minutes at a time. Luckily there's always the 3DS.
If you're low on funds, take a look at Pan Pan in the eShop. Admittedly I don't have it, but it's only $5 and is one of the games on my list to download when I feel safe enough after the splurge of big-title games I've preordered...
Project Octopath Traveller looks awesome. I downloaded the demo right after watching Nintendo Direct, but haven't played it yet. I've been playing the demo for Etrian Odyssey V for the 3DS, one of the games preordered long ago. It's not easy to find this demo. I think I ended up searching for Beyond the Myth before I finally found it. Would have missed it completely had I not seen ND.
One difference between the US and Japan version of Nintendo Direct is Lost Sphear, which is releasing soon in Japan. It seriously looks amazing. Fight mechanics like Chrono Trigger. Got too much already, so I'll be waiting until this is localized.
