There are SO many old, dead threads.. I'm seeing threads from over 5 years ago. I think it's time to let them go.
Please tell me that with the update, the old threads will be deleted? It'd clean up the threads, and people will be more likely to post more, if there aren't hundreds of thousands of old, dead threads hanging around.

We used to archived threads after a month of inactivity, but that feature was turned off last year, a decision that was met with near universal praise. Old threads sink to the bottom anyway, unless they're stickied threads.

I just feel like it looks really messy and overbearing. When I visit a forum, there's just so much and it's really hard to spot new threads. I really don't think threads from years ago should still be around.

It kind of goes hand in hand with maybe updating the stickied threads. It's really disheartening to see stickied threads from over 5 years ago..

Like, if I was someone new, who just found the site, and saw there there threads from 3+ years ago still on the very front page of the forum, I would assume the website to be dead, and I wouldn't bother to post or spend my time here.
I want this website to be active and alive again, I really do, but it's hard to imagine that happening when there's so much baggage.

Also, seeing numbers like this is a huge deterrent.

that's a LOT of dead threads, just hanging around.
I highly doubt anybody is going through every single forum, through every single category, and reading every single thread and post? Those numbers are way too big and could potentially stop someone from posting.

What should be there, is the latest thread posted. The date, the title, etc.

Yes, I can see what you mean. On the other hand, though, archiving threads means that people lose access to threads that they might want to come back to and re-read later.

What do you think of adding menus to the forum pages to filter by date? For example, we could have a dropdown like this:

Display threads from:
- Today
- This week
- This month
- This year
- All time

"Also, seeing numbers like this is a huge deterrent."
Yes, I agree. "Total Threads" and "Total Posts" don't seem very useful to anyone; they might be mildly interesting, but not something you'd want to check on a regular basis. "New Threads" and "Unread Posts" should probably be restricted to the last month or so; maybe the exact length could be configurable in the profile.

I understand this, as when I came back here, the first thing I wanted to see was my old fanfic I was writing.. However, the thread had been deleted. Haha. It was disappointing. Is there perhaps a sub-forum type area where archived threads could be moved to? That way, there aren't 15+ pages of old threads on the main forums, if that makes any sense? Like, a thread graveyard, so to speak.

I think a menu would work really well, tbh. that way, those who are curious about 10 year old posts can see see them, hahaha. I also really like the newest and unread posts being restricted to a month. Reading a thread that's 3 months old and posting in it won't really do any good, if the OP is gone/not interested in whatever the post was about/etc, and that way, it limits people from necroing older threads as well.

I agree with this in some aspects. There are so many old threads on the AC:NL Villager Trading Board that don't apply anymore. For example, if a villager was in boxes a month or even a year ago, they're not in boxes anymore. Therefore, I feel that time-related threads should be locked after a certain point to reduce clutter.

I like this idea but I totally get that some users might want to look at older threads. A time drop down menu would be very handy like Tilly suggested. And I think it would be easy enough to implement.

We could have a "newest threads" sign to make it less confusing. Or something as simple as highlighting the newer threads or making them a different color.

i feel like if you were to delete old inactive threads there would be like half a page of threads on each board
