Okay, so I've had my 3DS (it's the original) since Christmas of 2011 and it's beginning to have some problems now reading SD cards.
For one thing, since then, I've used three different SD cards on it. The first was the original one that came with the system, which I used until May 2013. I then got a SanDisk microSD card that I used in it using the adapter until June of last year, when I then got another microSD card, a Sony.
Well, for about the past year, my 3DS has been having problems reading SD cards, and it's only been getting worse even though I don't actually use the system as much as I used to. I wondered at first if the problem had to do with my microSD card and its adapter but I got it only a little over a year ago and whenever I use it in my camera it works fine. So, I'm assuming that it must have to do with the slot when it reads the SD card. Does anyone know what can be done? I've been tempted to get a newer 3DS because of these issues, but I can't afford one and my parents are very hesitant on getting me a newer game console for Christmas (which is the closest holiday), besides, I think I'd rather wait until the NX comes out at least, since that will be in a year. But, for now, what can I do about this problem my 3DS has been having with reading SD cards?

Yeah, that doesn't sound good.

The first thing I'd suggest trying is copying all your files to a different SD card and trying that in your 3DS - with a different adapter, if necessary. If the problem still happens, you'll know for certain the problem is with the SD card slot and not with the card or the adapter itself, which rules out a variety of possible causes.

If the problem is with the slot, unfortunately there isn't an awful lot you can do. It doesn't seem to be a very common problem - I've never heard of it happening to anyone else, and a quick search didn't turn anything up either - so chances are slim that there's any known way to fix it yourself. Also, because you got your 3DS in 2011, its warranty will have expired by now, so Nintendo won't repair it for free.

Normally I'd suggest replacing it, but yeah, with the NX coming out so soon, that does seem like it would be a bit of a waste. If the earliest you could possibly replace it is Christmas, though, we're likely to have more information about the NX by that time, so you could hold off on making a decision until then, and just hope the problem doesn't get any worse.

Yeah, I learned that the problem was with the slot because, as I said, I got this Sony microSD card and the adapter for it only slightly over a year ago, and it works fine in all other electronics I use it in, such as my Canon camera and also my MacBook Air.
I don't have nearly as much time to play my 3DS now as I used to, so possibly it won't have to be a major problem for me and I can just wait it out until the NX comes out next year.
