I'm really not interested in a mobile app, but I do have hope that they might release a main series game with it? The press release says "Nintendo will design the latter game so that it will be connected with the world of Animal Crossing for dedicated gaming systems. By playing both Animal Crossing games, users will find increased enjoyment." It's going to be connected to a main series game so HOPEFULLY a main series game will also be released? Fingers crossed at least (I personally hope it's for 3DS)
Both of these (Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing mobile releases) are pure game applications. Compared to Miitomo, they have more prominent game elements, and the game content will tie closely into Nintendo’s dedicated games business
hm, i don't know a lot about it but i don't feel any negativity towards an app coming out, i'm interested to see what they produce.
sure it's not going to be a main game, but it probably will be a counterpart to a main game that will be coming out next year with the NX? possibly? AC:HHD isn't a main game either, but i enjoyed that. but that's just me! i seem to be a bit too optimistic about these things, or so it seems
@ weasleylover234 i think your comment sounds a bit negative
i get what you're saying, & i think you're right in a way... but put it this way, when haven't Nintendo brought out things to rake in money? what about amiibo? what about amiibo cards? there are always add-ons & other little gadgets etc that Nintendo brings out, no matter what generation of console or handheld they produce.
i mean, you have to admit. people go crazy for this kind of stuff, no? i never really saw the point in them (amiibo) if i'm perfectly honest.
but i imagine you guys feel the same about the app? i dunno
& with a planned app for animal crossing, i think they're just trying to keep with the ever-changing trend. in this day & age, it's smartphones!
i mean, i don't particularly like Miitomo, it's not really a game, it's more of a pay-to-play. but it has 10 million users already, so people will snap it up. it hasn't even been out for two months yet. i think it's just a waste of time. yeah, it was cute & all, you get to play some games & answer questions, but unless you have a lot of friends (i don't), then there's literally nothing else to do apart from take silly pictures.
my point is, i'm not trying to defend the app (because i basically know nothing about it), but i'll probably have my opinions when it comes out. until then, i'm curious about what they'll do in terms of making a game out of it. even if it's not a main game, it's probably something to hold us over until the new system comes out. perhaps?
personally, i don't think a new AC game will come out on the 3DS. we've already had one & a spin-off as well. if anything, it might be in the lead up to something on the NX.
there are theories already about it being a launch title next year, but again, this is all speculation. i'm not really sure what's going to happen!
it would be exciting to get a new game on a new system, but then again, it's all about playing the waiting game. which is not a fun game, let's be honest here.
although, if it were to be for 3DS (because come on, the NX launch is said to be in MARCH 2017?!) it would be great, because i wouldn't have to buy a new console for a new AC game & we'd get another AC game before next year (possibly!)
all-in-all guys, i'm not trying to step on anyone's toes or bash opinions or anything, because these are my own opinions. personally, i'm keeping an open mind about this app-thingy!
they could make a really addictive little time-killer of a game, & it could be awesome!
or it could be like Miitomo & then i'd have some issues about that
Since I love all things Animal Crossing, I am really looking forward to seeing what the app is. Also, if it will work on my Android tablet, and if it's a playable game as the press release indicates...I am all over that I don't have a smartphone either, but I have been wishing for an AC game to play on my tablet for a loooong time. John
Well I suppose I did react before looking into it, I'll admit that I'm curious to see what they do. I guess my main thing is that with most apps you have to pay in order to achieve the next level and I'm worried that's the direction Nintendo is going in.
R.I.P Fred, Lupin and Sirius
Weasleylover... Agreed! As interested as I am in AC and this app... If the game has in-app purchasing I most likely will not get it. In app purchasing is an immediate NO when I'm deciding on downloading an app. John
I'm actually kind of excited to see what they produce!
If it's going to be a free app, more than likely there will be in-app purchases, or adds plaguing the game. Or both. But that's the case with most every app out there, but that doesn't mean it's pay-to-win or pay-to-complete.
As long as it's not one of those I'll probably pick it up! (Actually, let's be honest, I'll pick it up anyways. I'm a sucker for Nintendo.)

I think everyone shouldn't be so quick to judge, since we have no idea about this app. For all we know it could be an animal crossing social app like ACC, where you can make share friend codes or trade villagers.
I'm glad it isn't a main series game, think how much space that would take up on your phone
+5 hours ACC time
PT me if you wanna be friends, I want to play acnh with new people!
I really don't see why everyone is complaining about this... Nintendo basically told you that a new main series game was coming out. Answer me this- why would Nintendo release a smart phone game that requires you to buy a 3+ year old game to play? They wouldn't.
A new AC game has come out roughly every three years (ACNL actually being the exception):
ACGC: September 2002 ACWW: December 2005 ACCF: November 2008 ACNL: June 2013
They've also consistently gone home system to portable, so at over 3 years this fall, I'm thinking we'll get an Animal Crossing: Wii U. Which is crazy considering the NX is releasing less than half a year later. Compared to CF's release, which was four years before the Wii U's launch. I would expect an announcement with gameplay footage shown at E3... or bust.

"ACGC: September 2002 ACWW: December 2005 ACCF: November 2008 ACNL: June 2013"
Actually, as the games usually get released in Japan before they do elsewhere (with City Folk being the exception in that scenario), it's more like this: AC on N64/GCN (since I have no better way to call it): April 2001 ACWW: November 2005 ACCF: November 2008 (You were correct on that one, City Folk was the only Animal Crossing game to be released in North America before Japan, although only by three days) ACNL: November 2012 I just realized almost every game was released in November...

At this point Nintendo has announced that the ONLY playable game they will show this year at E3 will be the upcoming new Zelda--nothing else, not even a 3DS game. It will only be the Wii U version of Zelda but there will later be one for the NX when it comes out next year. There is also speculation that they may not even have a Nintendo Direct-style video presentation during E3 (but there is nothing to stop them from having one before E3). They will also not present any details about the NX during E3. I believe they will have Treehouse Live, though, so hopefully some non-Zelda info might come from that.
There are all kinds of speculation about the NX. We don't know if portability will be be a part of this new system, and if it would replace the 3DS. I'm guessing that there will not be an AC for the Wii U. It will likely be for whatever the NX is. We don't know if this future AC app will be compatible with a new version of the AC game or another spinoff. If the future AC app intends to be compatible with a brand new version of AC, it will be interesting to see what it will add to the game, and if it might also be compatible with the 3DS. I personally don't think a main series version of AC would work on a smartphone---it's just too detailed a game.
