I've been thinking about getting a harvest moon-like game. I like the idea of added things where farming isn't the only thing you're doing, too.
So I'm basically considering the harvest moon games, Rune Factory and the newer Popolocrosis (sp?) game. Which ones have you played/like best? Right now I think I'm considering getting Rune Factory 4 the most because the added combat/other features look interesting. I never get too involved in the virtual romances set up, but it looks well done in Rune Factory and I like the storylines within Fire Emblem/those romances so I'm sure I won't mind it like that, too. I played Harvest Moon DS Cute but then sold it when I wanted to get a 3DS for extra cash. I actually enjoyed that quite a lot, even though I didn't put a ton of hours into it.
Would love to know which harvest moon or farming/simulator game you liked best!
I'm on spring break and want to add to my game library, guys.
Story of Seasons is one of my favorites. (It actually is a Harvest Moon series game, but since Natsume and Marvelous split, and Natsume owns the rights to the Harvest Moon name, Marvelous AQL and XSeed are calling their games Story of Seasons now.) It takes a lot of the things that I believe tujunga probably likes about HM:ANB.
It has the series staples (growing crops, getting married, taking care of animals, cooking, festivals), as well as some new things.
Before you can get married, you have to be dating your chosen person first. There's a safari that you can upgrade (it takes a lot of money and materials to do so, though), see wild animals at, and mine at. Lots of character customization options. You can make clothes at your sewing studio, and wear them or sell them to make money (as far as I can tell jewelry doesn't affect your appearance, but the clothing/hats/face accessories do). There's rivalry with other farmers (technically introduced with Jamie in Magical Melody, but improved upon in SoS), and conquests with them, where you compete to rent more fields. The characters have a lot of personality this time around, especially the marriage candidates. There are buildings you can add to your farm, like a cheese factory, the aforementioned sewing studio, a winery, and more. There are more varieties of animals you can have, too (Chickens, silkie/araucana chickens, sheep/suffolk sheep, llamas, camels, alpacas/brown alpacas, angora rabbits/grey angora rabbits, cows/jersey cows/zebus, horses, pets).
It's a lot of fun, and I'd definitely recommend it.
