Hi. Lately people have been thinking weather or not to keep bell ads. I think a solution to this would be to have an option to turn bell ads on and off. If you kept them on, you would have the site be like it is now. If you had them off, you would still have your bells from before, and there would still be regular ads. Maybe you would have them be able to be turned on/off in your profile?
This might be helpful to both sides of the argument.
Hi, I'm a bit unsure about this idea for two reasons:
1) If a member does not wish to collect bells, surely they can choose not to click them if/when they see them. Therefore, I don't think an option to turn bell ads off is necessary, as they do not hinder a user's experience of the site in any way, and can just be ignored if a user doesn't wish to collect them.
2) This solution would mean fewer bells would be missed, and that would mean that the jackpot, which takes much longer to go up than it used to due to fewer active members on the site, would take even longer to rise.

I agree with Asho; I don't see a reason to have this an option. They could definitely choose not to click the ads. I don't understand your statement about feeling "forced" to click on the ads. You don't have to click on them if you don't want to and there are no dire consequences for not clicking an ad; you simply just don't collect bells and your "missed bells" increases.
If most people would want the bell ads anyway, I think this provides further support that this idea is not necessary to the website.
I actually think this feature could be useful. There is obviously at least 1 member who doesn't want to see the ads, and there's a good chance that there may be more. The only current option to get rid of them is to use adblock, which is bad for ACC because they won't get ad money. If people would use this feature rather than adblock, it could be useful. That being said, if there are so few users who would use it, it might not make sense to have the few active developers dedicate time to it.
Regarding the missed points into the jackpot issue, there are a couple of ways you could deal with that. You could either have all of them that would have appeared go into the jackpot, or take the rate at which people miss ads (for example, if 70 out of 100 ads are claimed, it would be .3 or 30%), and that percent of the time that a bell ad would have been displayed, the bells go into the jackpot. IIRC that stat was tracked somewhere, so it wouldn't be too hard to implement.

"That being said, if there are so few users who would use it, it might not make sense to have the few active developers dedicate time to it."
This is the reason that I don't really think the developers should put time into developing this. This really wouldn't be a useful features. As others have said, if you don't want bells, don't click on them.
If the website was up to date or nearly up to date, I wouldn't have a problem with this, but there are updates that are needed much more than this. There are other useful features and updates that the developers should focus on developing and that the staff should focus on discussing. The staff should be putting their time toward implementing those features. Something as small as allowing users to turn off bell ads isn't something that the staff should focus on implementing when there are so many other updates that are needed.
I also don't see the absolute need for this feature. Clicking on bells is entirely optional. Is it really worth spending time on this? Like Hadger said, the time is better spent on other features that would benefit the community. Small tweaks and aesthetic preferences should come later, in my opinion.
