I know both Wild World and City Folk were heavily reliant on Wi-Fi to finish the game. I was wondering if NL is the same way. I want to buy NL but I really don't want to deal with the same stuff I am now with WW. I got into it much later than the general public and want to finish the catalog and the game and all that. I can't because the online capabilities have been disabled for both WW and CF.

Please let me know. I would have to buy either a Wii U or 3DS for it... so I figured I'd get some opinions first.

If finishing the game completely means getting every item available, I would say yes. Even if you were to encounter every single villager and get their picture, and you had other versions of the games so you could visit other versions to get the regional events, there's still DLC that you are unable to download anymore (for example, the 7/11 series) and is only available through trading.

Haha well that's good to know. I guess just the stuff that is available on a regular basis, not timed. Like the stuff you get from town events is cool, but if there was a time limited set that is only available through the november of 2015, I can deal without those.

I'm going to say yes, for the complete Island Store stock. I'm not sure if it's possible to have your personal island stock every Island Store item, but if it is, there are way to many rare items to make it "worth" waiting for them to show up. Since it restocks once a day, that's 365 chances to get any specific item in a pool of over 30 per year, and that's just the furniture spot alone.

It took me hundreds of Wi-Fi island trips to get a Tropical Vista. And you're even less likely to get one in the personal island because the Club Tortimer membership is always taking up a slot. You could have it in your shop tomorrow or you could potentially wait years without seeing it. But, like I said, I think some of the Island Store items are Wi-Fi island only.

If your just going to buy new leaf to finish the catalogue and not enjoy it at all, I wouldn't bother. as the game is never intended of 'finishing' but i understand how you would want to get every furni item. i would consider if your going to get the joy of playing the game everyday and see if it would be worth buying a 3ds as I know there are pricey for anyone's budget. Thanks, both of you. I just wondered because of what happened with Wild World and City Folk. I don't want to get the online capabilities shut off and then not be able to use certain functions of the game. I still love my wild world game and play every day but it would be really nice if there was a way to play with people or get Nookington's without DS to DS because no one I know has a DS anymore and even still, no one plays Wild World anymore.

I want to do it, for sure. I know nothing about the changes from City Folk to New Leaf so I'm pretty stoked to learn about that stuff. Once the 3DS comes down in price, I'm gonna start to consider obtaining one for myself.

I'd just save up for a New 3DS, if you haven't already gotten a 3DS.  I'm currently saving up for one, so I can buy the newer games.
