Are the cards region coded like the games and consoles are now?

I see so many vendors on e-Bay from all over the world and would like to buy most of the NPC animals (as I will get the game and the new 3DSXL soon) but I'm watchful of my money and will not buy a product that is not compatible with a US coded 3DS.

The amiibo cards are region free

I am in the UK and have swapped and used cards from friends in the USA
