Prologue

"There's a tree! There's a tree!" said a female human passenger on the bus heading to the village. She was playing a game with herself which consisted of finding and pointing out trees on the roadside, waking an elderly warthog sitting on the seat in front of her in the process. "There's a tree! There's a tr—AAGGHH!! This game sucks! It hasn't even been five minutes and already my butt is asleep!"
She sat back in her seat and began tapping her fingers in her lap, heaving an impatient sigh over the lack of entertainment.
She looked to her right where a pink bear was sitting, a grumpy looking bear at that. His arms were crossed as he looked toward the front of the bus.
"So," said the girl to the bear, "where are you headed?"
".....This bus is on a one-way trip, Einstein," said the bear, giving her his grumpy look. "Where do you think?"
The girl gave him a blank stare for a few moments and then broke into a smile and said, "Y'know what'll get you out of Mid-Life Metropolis? A game of Spot The Tree."
"You know what's more fun than that? A game of Get To The Front Seat."
   "How does that work?"
"I take a seat at the front row, you stay here, and if we're still in the same spot after a good long while, you win."
   "Okay!"
So the pink bear left his seat and found a new one at the front row of the bus.

   ...Thirty minutes later...

"...Did I win?" said the girl, still in her seat at the back of the bus.

...Thirty minutes later into the ride...

The girl twiddled her fingers, staring toward the front of the bus.
"Uh-oh, a tunnel," she said. "Time to hold my breath and make a wish!" So she did, but exhaled only a few seconds later and said, "Eh. Didn't work the last time I tried it—I still don't have a copy of Punch-Out."
She stood on her seat and peaked her head over to the warthog sitting in front of her.
"Hey lady, wake up!" she said. "How much are your turnips going for?"
The warthog opened her still sleepy eyes and, without turning to the girl, said, "Sorry. I only sell my turnips on Sunday mornings. You'll have to wait six more days."
"Sundays only!? Aw come on, lady! They're turnips, not bibles!"
She plopped back down on her seat in frustration.
"Y'know," she continued, "if you sold them every day, you'd have plenty of money and wouldn't have to sit on the bus with a bunch of weirdoes."
At that word, all the passengers turned toward her with angry looks in their eyes; the girl screamed like a big sissy.
"Oh my," a voice said to the seat on the opposite aisle, "looks like someone is the life of the bus party!"
She looked toward the direction of the voice and there sat a blue cat wearing a checkerboard tee. He had a friendly smile on his face. She could not help but wonder: of all the choices, why wear a checkerboard tee?
"By the way," said the cat, "do you happen to have today's date and time?"
"Well," she said, "judging by the turnip thumper in front of me telling me I have to wait six more days, I'd say it's Monday. As for the time," she pulled an alarm clock out from her pocket which, ironically, is bigger than her pocket, "it's 2:55." She placed it back in her pocket.
"We sure are making good time, aren't we," he said. "Oh! Where are my manners! I didn't even introduce myself. My name is Rover. If you don't mind me asking, what's your name?"
"I am Dulce!" she said, hands clasped together and pressed against her cheek.
"Dulce, is it? Nice name! I like it!"
"Me too! Isn't it a cute name? My mom gave it to me when I was little. She had to, otherwise people would be calling me 'hey!'"
"I agree. It's a very cute name for a cute girl! On a different subject, you're heading to Idylland, aren't you?"
"How do you know that!?" she exclaimed, her eyes were wide with menace as she stood up on her seat. "How much do you know about me!?"
"Well, I just assumed, since this bus is on a one-way trip."
".....Oh yeah," she clamed herself, sitting back down. "Mister Sunshine told me the same thing."
   "Who?"
"That pink bear over there." She pointed to him at the front of the bus.
   "You mean Vladimir?"
   "Vladimir!? More like Ebenezer."
"So are you excited about your new life in Idylland?"
"Very very VERY excited! I'm finally moving out on my own! I can just imagine it: my own living room, kitchen, and bedroom. I'll even have my own garden with beautiful flowers and fruit trees! I think they'll be apple trees!"
"'An apple a day keeps the doctor away,' as the old saying goes."
"Not really," she began scratching her head. "I broke his window earlier this year....that's why I decided to move."
"Well.......I guess everyone has their days. In any case, seeing as how you're ready to start a new life, you must have plenty of money to do so."
"You wouldn't believe how much I have!"
"Wow! You sound pretty confident! I guess you have nothing to worry about."
"Yarr," said Kapp'n the bus driver, "Next stop is Idylland."
"All righty then!" said Rover. "Well Dulce, I hope we'll be able to chat again soon."
"Wait!" said Dulce. "I have a really important question for you."
   "Yes?"
"Do you have a copy of Punch-Out?"
   "..........No."

She looked out the right-hand window at the incoming view of her new home, Idylland. Her face and hands were pressed against the window. There were fields and fields of green, beautiful tall trees, snug houses and clear blue skies, almost as if they are just for her arrival.
"Wow!! It's so pretty...and it's gonna be my new home from here on!"
"Little girl, would you get off my face now!" said the grey anteater whose nose she was standing on.

Chapter 1

After a long ride through the grasslands, forests, and a tunnel, the bus made one last ride down a small dirt road toward Idylland. The road went through an archway and finally stopped at the front of the village.
All the passengers made their way off the bus, but were plowed out of the way by Dulce, who ran to the door knocking everybody aside with bowling pin sound effects.
She jumped out the door with her luggage and looked around at her new home: apple trees, healthy green grass, a waterfall and river.....there's more, but you'll see in due time.
Her red hair blew in the cool afternoon wind, bringing a smile (a bigger one, at least) to her face.
"Idylland...my new home!" she dropped her luggage on the ground and swung her arms out to the side and began spinning like a propeller. "Dulce, resident of Idylland! I can see it now. Finally, clear, sunny skies are here at last!"
Just then, an apple flew out of the bus and hit Dulce in the head, knocking her face first to the ground. The rest of the passengers stepped off the bus and walked on their way.
"Oh Dulce!" Rover called to her as he stuck his head out a window of the bus, "I almost forgot, make visiting the town hall your top priority. You'll be given a rundown of the village and what houses are available. A friend of mine will sell you a nice house, so you're in good shape from here on. Well, see ya...and good luck!"
The bus drove back out the archway and out of the village.
"Of all times," said Dulce, raising her head from the ground, "for an apple to keep the doctor away." She dropped her face to the ground again.

She pulled her luggage along the dirt road in ecstasy (lucky for her, it had wheels installed). There were so many trees to climb, hills to roll down, a waterfall to.....fall down, I suppose.
As she kept staring at something to her left side, she bumped into a bear and fell backwards to the ground.
"Ow!" she exclaimed. "My calculator!" (She means her head)
"Whoops!" said the bear as he turned toward her. He knelt down to help her up. "Sorry about that. I'm known to be somewhat of a roadblock."
Her eyes widened as she stared admiringly at him with his golden yellow fur and spring shirt.
"You look just like my Teddy bear that I used to sleep with as a kid!" she said.
"Teddy Bear? Was he a friend of yours?"
"He was my best friend! We did everything together and he never complained, not even when I threw him into the washing machine for a cleanup."
"WHAT!?!?" his eyes widened in great surprise. "You threw your best friend in a washing machine!?"
"Of course! Isn't that how all stuffed animals get cleaned?"
"Oh! A stuffed animal?" he said, calming down. "I thought you meant a real living bear!"
   "I wouldn't throw a real bear into a washing machine—that's where I bathe."
"I...guess that's a...relief. Oh, by the way, I'm Nate. I live in this village." His smile finally returned. "What's your name?"
"My name is Dulce. I just moved in to this village a few minutes ago."
"Does this mean I'm the first neighbor you're talking to?" he said with a glitter in his eyes. "Oh boy! This means I can introduce you to all the great spots to relax or.....umm....have adventures in!"
"Can we eat meatloaf all the while?" she said with a hopeful expression in her eyes.
   "Only if it's pre-made."
"Oh joy!" She jumped into the air with her limbs extended and hit her head on a low branch. "I've been having nothing but good luck since I got hit in the head by a stray apple.....and here it is!"
She held out the apple for Nate to see.
She opened her luggage and stuck her head inside.
"I don't think I brought a knife to slice this apple," she said.
She pulled her head out and closed the luggage.
"Hey!" she said. "Can you use your claws? It should be a breeze for you, right?"
"Sure, no problem!" he said. "I've had practice since I was a cub. I can even do it blindfolded. Watch!"
He cracked his knuckles, covered his eyes and swung his claws at the apple. It was a success! However.....
"There ya go!" he boasted, opening his eyes. "Just like a professi—"
He stopped talking and stared at her in shock with wide eyes; a sweat drop fell from his forehead.
"Wow!" she said, holding out the perfect slices of the once-whole apple. "Perfect marksmanship! Many thanks! Well, I'd better head to the town hall to do whatever the heck I need to do."
She walked past him and stopped in her tracks and turned toward him.
"Here's a slice in your honor." She tossed him a slice of apple.
He caught the slice, yet still that shocked look on his face didn't fade. He watched her as she happily walked away, unaware of the giant red claw mark across her face.

Chapter 2

She walked for five minutes in one direction when she bumped face-first into the dirt wall of a high cliff. That's right, she had been walking mindlessly for a whole five minutes not knowing where she was going.
She looked all around for an alternate route, but it was clearly a surrounding wall.
"Now I remember! 'The best way to ge somewhere is by having someone get you there!' By someone, I mean a map. Now, time to make a one-sixty turn and head back to the entrance."
So she walked back toward the village entrance when a small shadow overhead caught her attention. It was a present floating in midair by two red balloons, which shortly caught in the branches of a nearby tree.
She sprinted toward the tree to run up to the bark but fell flat on her face. Next, she tried climbing it's length, but she easily slid down, taking with her a mouthful of wood. Now she tried jumping toward the present up in the branches, but missed by a foot and crashed into the bark.
She sat on her luggage to think. Finally, a light bulb lit in her mind. She pulled the apple out of her pocket, stood beneath the present, and threw the apple with all her might. It took a few tries before she got a bulls-eye, knocking the present out of the tree and into her extended hands.
"I GOT IT!!!" she screamed as she danced around in a circle and tripped on the tree root, bumping into the bark face-first (oh, what a victim of faceplants she is) and then fell backwards into the grass, where a barrage of apples fell from the tree and piled on top of her; the only visibility of her were her right arm and leg.

She made it back to the entrance and found a stand with a pouch containing a map. She skipped to it with a smile on her face and her luggage trailing behing her, when the bus came back through the entrance to the village. It stopped and let all its passengers off and they all when straight to the map stand.
"Oh no!" said Dulce. Her eyes bulged as she realized the situation. "They're gonna take the last map!"
She ran as fast as her little legs would allow, and hurtled over the crowd of newcomers head-first for her map, screaming "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!" all the while.
Everything seemed to be going in slow motion as she grasped her fingers around the map, flew past the stand, and scraped the pavement with her face; her limbs were bent out of shape while she twitched on the ground.
Everyone was staring at her silently for a few moments before they continued to the stand to take one of the many maps left in the pouch.

With a map now in her possession, she now had the power.....to know where every landmark was.
"Hmm," she pondered as she glanced her map. "If I go this way I'll find the town hall, but if I go this way there's a little pond to soak in—"
SPLOOSH!!! She sunk right in without even knowing she had already reached the spot. Luckily, her map slipped out of her hands and glided to the grass when she plummeted in.
She climbed out and spit a frog out of her mouth, rung the water from her shoes, dropped them to the grass, and then winced and pulled a crawfish off her behind and tossed it back into the pond.
"There has to be an easier way to find the town hall without a map," she told herself as she rung out her clothes.
As she walked straight ahead, she found a dirt road with a sign that read "To Town Hall."
"Joy," she casually said with lazy eyes and a smile on her face, then bolted down the road to the town hall.

Chapter 3

At long last, she reached the town hall. She stood still, staring at the structure with its many windows and a clock a few feet below the roof.
"I guess it's time to look professional," she told herself.
She opened her luggage and took out a pair of red glasses and a scrunchie. She placed the glasses over her eyes and tied her hair up.
"Just remember," she told herself, "not to look stupid. That's the word you need to exclude from your first introduction. Keep 'stupid' in mind, so that you can leave it behind. Whoa, that rhymes!"
She shook her head and slapped her face to regain her senses and stood proper.
Now that she was prepared, she walked to the door of the town hall, looking her most professional (as professional as one in a wrestler shirt could look; which, by the way, I forgot to mention she was wearing).

Inside the town hall, a gray eagle was arguing with the employee on the other side of the counter. The employee, a friendly-looking white pelican, seemed a bit timid but kept her cool; the eagle, on the other hand, threw complaint after complaint at her.
"How could he have not received my debt payment!?" the eagle screeched. "I dropped the money off yesterday, so he should have gotten it already!"
"Yes, it's true you paid yesterday," said the pelican in a calm and friendly tone, "but the store was closed due to the event and he left town for the day. He's back now, so he'll receive the money today. I apologize for the event hurting your deposit."
"Yeah, well you know what won't hurt? Me walking out this door!"
So the eagle walked to the exit and reached for the doorknob. Suddenly, the door swung open and crushed the eagle in between the wall and the newly-opened door and Dulce walked in, straight past the stray feathers from the eagle and up to the counter.
"Good day, my fellow lady!" said Dulce in her impersonating high-class tone. "I am stupi—I mean, I am Dulce. I have come to view your quaint little cottages."
"Oh, you must be the one who made quite a show on the bus!" said the pelican.
"Oh, so you heard?" said Dulce with a disappointed tone, taking off her glasses and scrunchie and placed them back in her luggage.
"A friend of mine told me ahead of time to expect an interesting new neighbor," said the pelican with a smile on her face. "By the way, my name is Pelly. I work here during the daytime, so if you need anything involving the village or your account, feel free to ask."
"I have an account!? Wills Forgo tricked me again! Bunch o' jerks!!" said Dulce, pulling her hair in a rage.
"No one tricked you, but if you want to make purchases and have some money left over, you might want to open an account, which is why I mentioned it."
"Oh, sounds fair.....but you might want to keep an eye on those Wills Forgo guys."
"O-okay. Anyway, since you're looking to buy a house, there are a few available."
Pelly pulled down a projection screen with an image of Idylland's map.
"For now, there are only four vacant houses," Pelly continued, pulling out a laser pointer. "This one here is just a five-minute walk directly south from here: there isn't much going on there, but it's a lovely forested area where a few other neighbors live. If you're into peace and quiet, this one will definitely win you over.
"Here, we have a house five minutes from here to the east: its location is closest to here and the entrance, so friends coming to visit you can find your home very easily.
"Next, there is another about fifteen minutes from here to the southeast: it sits just ten feet from the river, which I think you may find very relaxing, especially when you want to soak your feet.
"Finally, thirty minutes south from here is another house on the beach: the local convenience store is nearest the beach, so that's one plus, along with the soothing sound of the tides on the beach and the perfect spot for those romantic walks.
"So," Pelly said, tugging the screen to let it flip back in its old place, "just remember to mark those spots on your map and enjoy Idylland's pleasures."
Dulce was staring at her with big, sparkling eyes.
"WOW!" said Dulce. "I don't know if you were listing vacant homes or showing me prizes in a game show!"
"One more thing," said Pelly. "The doors are unlocked, so have a look inside and see which one you like best."
"So.....now my life begins the minute my next step takes place!"
With a confident expression and her head held high (that's a lot of "h"s), she turned and walked toward the door....or so she would have done if she didn't stumble into her luggage directly behing her, flipping over onto her back. She jumped up quickly and grabbed her luggage.
"My life truly begins," she continued, "starting now!"
She ran out the door and on the search for her ideal home, closing the door behind her.
The eagle, now free from the door's pressure, took only half a step before the door slammed open, crushing him against the wall; Dulce stuck her head inside.
"By the way," she said, "you should really do something about these feathers flying around the room."
Her head then disappeared outside and the door closed again.
The eagle stood in the same position against the wall where he was crushed by the door.
"We haven't been introduced yet," he said, "and already she's annoying me."

Chapter 4

She was walking along the path just south of the town hall. Looking to and fro, she saw tree after tree holding apples. She already had her fill, so reaching for another was out of the question; besides, she was already attacked by a crowd of falling apples not too long ago.
She passed by a house where a horse was digging frantically in the soil. Neither the horse nor Dulce noticed each other—Dulce was lost in her map and the horse was busy with her shovel.
"I know it's down here somewhere!" the horse exclaimed. She dug faster and faster until she hit something hard in the soil. "I found you!!"
She impaled the shovel into the soil and tugged with all her might. She tugged and tugged and tugged some more, when finally the prize in the soil flew from the earth and high into the sky toward Dulce's direction. The horse tugged so hard, she fell on her back with her arms spread on the ground.
Dulce walked along, ignorant of the horse's struggle.
"It should be somewhere around here," Dulce told herself.
She looked up from her map and to her surprise a large object landed on the ground in front of her.
"Wow! A present from the sky! I could—oh.....it's just some oil drum."
She picked it up and tossed it over her shoulder. It landed right next to the horse—who just got up from the ground—where it exploded and burst into flames.
"There it is!" said Dulce. She spotted a vacant house and walked up to the front door. She placed her hand on the knob and turned it, opening the door.
Peeking her head inside, she found only a small wooden box with a lamp on top and a radio in one corner of the room. She stepped in and closed the door.
She walked to the middle of the small room and stood on her tiptoes, extending her left arm to the ceiling. She took a measuring tape out of her luggage and extended it from one side of the room to the other. After measuring, she released the tape, letting it slip back into its socket, whipping her in the face before slipping into the socket completely.
"Hmm.....it's really small, but I suppose it can be expanded."
She looked out each window at a time.
"What a view!" It was a view, all right....of a natural wall outside. Not the best choice of a home. So with her mind made up, she opened the front door and walked out, closing the door behind her.
"So, how is your search for a new home coming along?" said a voice beside her.
She looked to her left and saw a raccoon standing there.
"Another Wills Forgo goon!" she screamed, pulling the apple out of her pocket. "Get back or I'll fill you with fiber!"
The raccoon gave her an upset look and said, "Don't compare me to those loan sharks!" His expression cooled. "My name is Tom Nook. I run the local shop here in Idylland. I'm also in charge of selling houses. So, does this house suit you?"
"Well, this one doesn't say 'me,' it says 'Look, a wall! Don't you have one of these in your house already?'"
"I take it that's a no-go for this one? Well, whichever you decide on, I'll be happy to sell it to you. Happy searching!"
He walked away into the forest.
Dulce's search for a new home proved to be a challenge—the house by the entrance was too far from nature and the house on the beach, though very close to the convenience store, was too far from every other locale Idylland had to offer.....except for the beach. Whenever she left each house, Tom Nook was waiting just outside, scaring the bejesus out of her every time.
Her last and final hope rested with the house by the river. Before she had reached the house, she was already captivated by the river itself.
She walked along the riverbank, entranced by the nature surrounding her, when she finally reached the house. Just as Pelly had said, it stood ten feet from the river, with plenty of trees and a few neighbors nearby.
"This is it!" she said. "This will be my new home! Just think, I can take a dip in the river and no one can tell me otherwise 'cause it's outside my house, which means I own part of this river. Yay me!!"
She began dancing in circles and tripped on her own foot, stumbling and falling flat, dunking her head into the river.
She pulled her head out and spit the sweetfish from her mouth, licking her lips afterwards.
"Well, that'll hold me for a few hours."
So she toured the inside of the house and found that, although it was roughly the same size as the others, its location was her ideal choice for her new home. Looking out the front windows, the beach in the distance was visible along with the river's end and the few houses down below.
Way ahead of the routine, she opened the front door, stuck her head out and immediately yelled, "I'LL TAKE IT!!!"
Tom Nook, who was standing in front of her, had his fur blown by the gust of her booming voice, but kept his casual expression.
"A good choice you've made," he said. "Congradulations, you're the proud new owner of this fine home! I'll even throw in the radio that's in there at no charge."
"All right! Give me some cassettes—I wanna listen to some tunes."
"I don't have any cassettes on me. You might want to wait for K.K. Slider on Saturdays, he shows up at The Roost. Anyway.....there's also a bed and phone up in the attic, as you may have already noticed. Furnishing, much like any other house, requires your unique skills, so don't expect me to bring a sofa anytime soon."
"Double dangit!" She snapped her fingers.
"Now for the moment where you pay..."
Dulce fell to her kness, pulling her hair and screaming to the skies with all her might; everyone in Idylland turned suddenly toward the direction of the echoing scream. ("That's the loudest cry I've heard in my life!" said Pelly)
   "...With bells," Tom finished.
Dulce looked and Tom and smiled a silly smile and said "Yay."
"So, the total for the house is 19,800 bells."
"Umm...okay! Just let me reach into my luggage and.....LOOK, IT'S SHANNA FONTANA!!!" She pointed to some non-existent person behind him.
   ".....Could you just pay already?"
   "Fine."
She reached into her luggage and pulled out a bag of bells and handed it to him.
"Thank you! I have received..........not nearly enough! One-thousand bells?! Why Dulce, Rover told me that you claimed to have plenty of bells."
"No I didn't. I just said he wouldn't believe how much I have."
"How did you plan on buying a house with such a small amount of money?" He began laughing.
   "The best friend discount...?"
   "There's no such thing."
"Come on! Give me the discount! I'll be your friend."
   "No."
   "Aw.....you're mean!"
She dropped flat on the ground with her face in the dirt.
"That's not true," he said. "There is a way to make more money to pay off your house."
"Oh, fine," she said. She got up and pulled out a bazooka from her luggage. "Who do you want me to smoke?"
"That won't be necessary. I meant I can have you working for me at my shop."
"I just moved into town and already I have a job? Just go easy on me during the interview; I'm out of practice."
"There is no interview. I just said you got the job. Whenever you're ready to start working, drop by my store. If you need help finding it, check your map. Well, I look forward to working with you!"
She watched him as he walked away.
"A new house and now a new job! Oh joy!! I'll have my housed furnished, expanded, and before I know it, I'll finally have my very own copy of Punch-Out!! Happy days are here at last!"
She spun in a circle and tripped over her luggage (yet again) and tumbled into the river. The current carried her all the way to the waterfall, where she spiraled down below into the river.

This is my favorite fan fiction I've ever read in my entire life.

Drenched in river water, she stomped her way to Nook's shop. In case you're wondering why she's stomping, her shoes are heavy from the water, so she has to lift her feet with all her might.
Anyway, as she stomped on her way while singing the pirate song (y'know, "Yo-ho, yo-ho" and all that stuff), she found a house up ahead.
"Well," she told herself, "I haven't started working yet, so I guess it's okay to have a look."
She skipped for most of the length, which wasn't very far, before she slipped on a puddle of mud and crashed into the house.
She began tiptoeing alongside the house and toward the front. She peeked her head out to the front for....some reason (I suppose she's paranoid or something like that). Once she saw that the coast was clear (of what? I'll never know), she came out to the front and looked inside the window—such acts of espionage!
Looking inside (nosy girl!), she saw a few pieces of furniture and some other objects which didn't seem to fit in a house.
"Not very homely," she said aloud, "if I do say so myself. OOPS!! Not too loud. Don't want anyone thinking I'm a spy. I am more of the ninja type, after all."
At those words, the alarm clock in her pocket began ringing loudly, shaking her entire body as she vibrated from one side of the house to the other.
The door of the house opened in a hurry and a voice called out, "What's goin' on out here?"
It was Nate, that friendly bear with the golden yellow fur whom she met earlier. He stared wide-eyed at her as she vibrated back and forth a few feet in front of the house.
He caught up to her and pat her atop her head (which, for a human such as heself, is more like a wallop), silencing the alarm and dropping her to the ground, flat on her back; her arms and legs were spread out, kind of like those outlinings you see on the streets concerning a murder case.
"Well I'll be!" said Nate. "Dulce! We meet again! How're ya doing?"
"I think I just saw my late grandma for a few seconds."
"Here, let me help ya up."
He held her by her shoulders and lifted her up onto her feet.
"There you go," he continued. "The ground is no place for the body, unless you're doing crunches and want to feel that extra burn on a sunny day."
"I think I already got that extra burn from the saltwater on my way over here."
"So, what brings you over here?"
"I'm gonna be working for Raccoon Man!"
"Raccoon Man? Oh, you mean Tom Nook."
"Yeah, him too. I didn't have enough money to pay for my house, he was kind enough to give me a job to make some bells so I could pay for my house! Isn't that the bee's knees! I want to celebrate, but I forgot to bring fireworks."
She looked inside her luggage for a substitute.
"Ooooh!" she exclaimed, pulling out the bazooka. "I have this!"
"Wow! That's....um, isn't that pretty dangerous?"
"It usually is, but as long as the safety is on, we're ok."
She pat the bazooka with her hand, whereas it fired a shot into the sky with a loud explosion and whistled as it arched somewhere toward the front of the village.
"That reminds me," she continued, "I need to put the safety on. Now that's one less for the door-to-door salesmen. Well, it shoots really far, so no one in the village will be in danger."
She came to her senses and pulled out the alarm clock from her pocket. She looked at it and her jaw dropped to the floor.....literally.
"OH NO!!" she screamed. "I'm late! My first day and I'm late!!"
She stuffed the bazooka into her luggage and zipped it closed. If you're wondering how the bazooka fits inside, here's the answer: it's just a fictional story, so stop looking for logistics.
"It was nice seeing you again, Nate!" she called to him as she ran toward Tom Nook's store. "I've gotta go! Let's have some apple juice later!"
Nate watched her as she disappeared down the lane and behind the trees.
"She seems so determined," he said to himself. "If she worries too much, though, she'll wear herself out and her energy will melt. The only thing that should melt is a nice strawberry parfait in your mouth, especially after a prolonged workout on the biceps! Now those are treats for your feats!"
He changed his expression from satisfied to curious.
"Hmm, but I wonder," he said, looking over the trees toward the direction to which the missile fired from the bazooka, "how far that shot flew? Well, if she says it did no harm, then her word is her word."
He walked back into his house and closed the door.
What neither of them knew was that the missile didn't go very far; in fact, it landed in a pond just outside a shop known as Able Sisters, where it exploded five seconds after dipping into the water, sending gallons of water into all directions and splashing a gray eagle who was passing by (remember him?).

Chapter 6

As she turned the corner of a particular tree, Tom Nook's shop came into view. She walked around to the front and read the sign: Nook's Cranny.
"For someone who claims to sell houses," she said, "he seems kinda cheap. Maybe it's one of those secret buildings that look old and decrepit on the outside, but inside it's luxurious and filled with comfy furniture, desserts.....and robot servants!"
With an excited air, she ran with her luggage to the door of Nook's Cranny.
Upon opening the door, she looked inside. The interior was.......well, let's face it, fellow readers, Dulce tends to set her hopes a little too high. It was a shack on the outside and it's a shack on the inside, enough said there.
"Reality can be so low-budget," she told herself with lazy eyes and a slouched back.
At the other end of the room, Tom Nook walked up to her.
"Well," he said; the look in his eyes was filled with such anger, "it's about time you showed up!"
Dulce hid behind her luggage and started screaming like a little sissy.
"I'm just kidding," said Tom Nook. His expression cooled to a carefree emotion. "Welcome to my shop! This is where all the magic happens: the magic of finding all the tools and furnishings you need!"
"Does that include sofas?" she asked, peeking her head out from behind her luggage.
"If it can furnish your home, then you can find it here."
   "Oh boy!"
"Not so fast. Remember why you're here? You still need to do your part to make some bells. I even have the outfit for you to wear for the occasion."
He pulled a uniform from behind his back and showed it to her and handed it to her.
"My very own uniform!" Her eyes were glittering. If the stars in the night sky were out right now, they would have been jealous of her eyes. She looked around the shop. "Where's the dressing room?"
"Dressing room? There is no dressing room."
"WHAT!?!? How am I supposed to get changed?!"
"You'll have to step outside and get changed."
"Oh, come now!" She zipped behind him and shoved him to the exit. "C'mon, c'mon! Let's go, let's go! Get out! Go, go, go! Hit the bricks! I've gotta get changed! I can't do it outside like an animal! No offense."
Once he was outside, she went inside and closed the door behind her.
"Well," he said, "this'll be the day when I was kicked out of my own shop."
Not even five seconds later, the door swung open again and Dulce zipped out and behind Tom faster than a crowd of kids chasing an ice cream truck. She was now in her work uniform.
"Alright!" she said, shoving him back inside the store. "Okay! Let's go! Hurry up! Hurry, hurry, hurry! You need to give me some work. C'mon, hurry! I'm not flaunting this getup for nothing!"

One minute later...

"You mean you haven't met everyone in town?" said Tom Nook. "It's of the utmost importance that you meet everyone."
"But they're so far away!" said Dulce, lying face-down on the floor with her arms and legs extended. Don't worry, she's not hurt, just blubbering. "Great. Now I'm gonna be jobless, and the townfolks' first impression of me is gonna be 'HA!'"
"Well, I suppose I could let it slide, just this once. Come on, Dulce, don't cry. Look, I'll mark their homes on your map." He took a pen from his apron pocket and circled a few locations on the map. "There you go. As simple as breathing. There's no reason for you to cry anymore."
She sat up on her floor and halted her blubbering, but was still sniffling.
"Okay," she said between sniffles. "Just let me dry my tears."
She pulled out her "Li'l Blockhead's Instant Drying Kit" and flipped the switch. Her eyelids and lips flapped in the gust, but at least her eyes were soon dry.

Chapter 7

"Your first job is simple," said Tom; "plant these flowers and saplings outside around the shop. This'll teach you the basics of gardening. A lot of your neighbors garden as well, so try to keep up with them."
"I'll be done faster than you can say 'blip!'"
She hastily walked out the door and closed it behind her.
"Hmm," said Tom, "Really? Finishing faster than I can say 'bl—'"
He would have finished saying "blip," but the door quickly swung open and Dulce walked in and said, "Done!"
   "You can't be serious!"
"I can be whatever I want!"
"Um, okay. Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I won't judge your placement. Next, I need you to deliver a carpet." He picked up a carpet from the counter and handed it to her. The minute it was in her hands, the weight pulled her to the ground where she landed right onto the side of her head. It wasn't heavy, but she also wasn't prepared for it. Her huge head wasn't of much help, either. "Careful now. We here at Nook's Cranny need to keep our good reputation, so make sure it's in one piece when it gets to Jeremiah's house."
So off she went on her first delivery.

She walked away from Nook's Cranny, past Nate's house (she caught a glimpse inside, where Nate was lifting weights and watching a comedy on tv), up a dirt hill, and finally reached Jeremiah's house.
Looking at the house, she realized one thing....
"They live right next door to me!" she said. "I could just go home and toss it to them through my window....but...eh, it wouldn't be good for business. Hmm.....neither would hating my job, so I guess it's time to make this a bit more interesting!"

Inside the house, a blue bullfrog was watching the forecast on the television.
"Clear skies for most of the week," said the bullfrog. "I'll be picnicking outside with some cheesecake and strawberry milk tomorrow!"
Just then came a knock on the door.
"I wonder who that is," said the blue frog. "I hope it's not that HRA weasel again; he's a nice guy, but unbelievably persistent."
So he got up off his seat and walked to the door and opened it.
"How can I help.....whoa!!" said the blue frog, wide-eyed with his jaw dropping.
"Hola!" said Dulce; she was wearing huge shades along with a sombrero on her head. "My name is Dulce. I'm your new next door neighbor and a package o' parties! Speaking of packages, this is for you."
She handed him the carpet, relieved to free her hands.
"All right!" said the blue frog. "It's finally here! After three days of waiting, it's finally here!"
"THREE DAYS!?!? Did I take that long!? Aw, I'm so gonna get fired!! No es bueno!!"
Dulce slammed her face into the walls of his house.
"Oh, no no no!" said the blue frog. "I had it ordered, so it took some time to get here. By the way, since we're now neighbors, I should introduce myself. I'm Jeremiah, and I LOVE sweets! If there's any sweets you feel you just can't finish, just send 'em to me!"
"Wow! Sweets!" She spoke with her eyes closed, obviously lost in her own dreamland. "I didn't know at first, but now I know: Idylland is the land where everyone has good luck!!"
Ignorant as they were, they didn't notice the gray eagle a few yards in front of the house, stomping away with drenched feathers, mumbling and grumbling in frustration.

Chapter 8

"That job was a breeze!" said Dulce with an air of confidence and a look of self pride as she stood in Nook's Cranny.
"It would seem so," said Tom Nook. "I have to ask though, where did you get that hat?"
"It's called a 'sombrero', and I found it in the recycling bin at the town hall. Strange, don't ya think?"
"Strange that you're wearing garbage? Anyone would feel that way."
"No, strange that someone considers a sombrero 'recyclable.' If they were like me, they would've saved it for the cinco of May."
"Yes, in all honesty. So! That little job of yours pays the sum of 500 bells. Since you're working to pay for your house, I'll just keep that payment as a deposit toward your house."
Dulce probably would have been crying had she not melted into a puddle of her former self due to disappointment.
"On to your next task!" he continued. "I need you to write a letter to a fellow customer in this village. Think of this as a flyer for our business."
"So then I should write about your crazy sales and watch out not to get trampled by others shoppers and left for a carcass at the entrance?"
"Crazy sales have been taken by Crazy Redd. We need to think more on the sane side."
"The sane side? That's no fun. If this Crazy Redd is gonna be crazy, then we need to be psycho!"
As she said this, her eyes widened and the pupils in her eyes decreased in size; her mouth bore a sadistic grin revealing razor-sharp teeth. Her face was nose-close to his, implying intimidation....which wasn't working.
"Whatever tickles your fancy," he said. "Just don't scare the customers away, they're keeping this store open."
".....I like your nose!" she said as she wiggled his nose back and forth with her index finger.
   "Stop that."
   He swatted her hand away.

She sat outside on the ground with her back up against Nook's Cranny. With a piece of Nook paper in hand along with a pen, she quickly wrote...whatever kind of advertisement for the recipient. Once she finished, she ran toward the town hall, following the brown dirt road.
She skipped toward her destination (well...more like jumped seven feet into the air) and stopped when she spotted the very same gray eagle whom you read about a few times already. He was mumbling something as he stared out into the apple orchard.
"Hi! I'm Dulce!" she said as she walked toward him. He looked at her indifferently; after all, how could he forget hearing the name of the girl who squished him with a door?
"So I've heard," he said, turning away from her to look out toward the clear blue sky.
Dulce began sniffing the air suspiciously. She sniffed left and right, until the odor lead her to the eagle himself.
"Fooo!" she said, waving her hand in front of her as a sign of a disagreeable odor. "You smell like wet animal!"
"I am a wet animal," he said gritting his teeth and looking at her, "in case you haven't noticed! I don't usually smell like this, but thanks to the pond exploding on me, I have to deal with that now! Now I've got to wait until I'm dry before I can go about my day!"
"Theres no need to wait. I have just the thing to help!"
She reached into her luggage and pulled out her "Li'l Blockhead's Instant Drying Kit."
"This'll dry you off in no time," she said.
"I don't need any he—" was all he could say before she flicked the "on" switch, blowing a powerful gust of wind at him. His feathers were blowing harder than they would in a vehicle going at three-hundred miles per hour and his eyes were wobbling in his sockets.
"...urn...t...ff!" Was all that was audible through the noise of the dryer.
   "What?" she said.
   "TURN IT OFF!!"
"I can't hear you! Let me turn this off first!"
So she turned off the dryer.
"What were you saying?" she said as she looked at him. Just as the motto on the dryer promised, he was dry instantly; however, his feathers were puffed out and his beak was now on his forehead, covering his eyes completely. She took the dryer and gently hammered his beak back to its original position.
"All dry!" she said with a big smile on her face. "How do you feel?"
"Like a million bells," he said dully as he smoothed out his feathers. "I have to go now. Thanks and all that, I guess."
As he walked away, Dulce called to him.
   "Wait!" she said.
   "Now what?"
"You never told me your name. We're gonna be neighbors from here on, you know?"
   "It's Avery. I'm going now."
   "Wait!"
"What is it!?" He was trying hard to control his anger.
"How did the pond splash you anyway? Did you get it upset by body slamming it?"
"If you must know, something fell from the sky and landed in the pond outside Able Sisters. I guess it exploded, since it sent the water everywhere after a few seconds. Now, if you'll excuse me."
So he walked away without interruptions.
She pondered for a few moments before thinking aloud.
"An explosion from the sky?? Oh boy! This town is already interesting and I haven't even settled in yet!"
She skipped to the town hall while singing Go K.K. Rider....if there are any words to begin with.....I suppose she's just making up lyrics. Isn't that how all musicians start?

Chapter 9

"Here's your opulent rug!" Dulce said to the recipient, who happened to be a brown mouse wearing a chef's outfit.
"Eekers!" said the mouse. "My rug! It's finally here! Thanks so much, miss delivery girl!"
"Who?" said Dulce, looking behind her for this "Miss Delivery Girl."
   "Why you, of course."
"Oh, I see! I was confused since you called me by the wrong name. My name is Dulce, and I just moved in and I already got myself a job working for the Nook man!"
"So you're the new girl!! Avery told me that he met some 'annoying' human not too long ago."
"It's true, we did meet...but I wonder who this 'annoying' person is he was talking about?" Dulce began scratching her chin, looking up to the sky in confused thought.
"Before I forget," said the mouse, "my name is Bettina. As a welcome to your new home, I'll give you this!"
She handed Dulce a potted gerbera.
"It's as beautiful as Princess Toadstool in her tennis outfit!!" said Dulce with big sparkly, watering eyes and a smile on her face. "I'm gonna take this home right away and find a spot for it! Thanks a bunch!"
And so she ran off; Bettina waved to her as she disappeared down the road.
Dulce walked into her house.....literally, since she was so excited about her gift that she forgot that doors existed. Once she remembered, she turned the knob and went inside.
She looked for the perfect spot to place the gerbera, which in her case was below the southern window on the floor.
"Now it feels like a real home!" she said dreamily; in fact, so dreamily, she seemed to fall asleep standing up and tilted sideways, falling off her feet and slamming her face into the wall.
"Uh-oh! I have to get back to Nook's!" She ran toward the door and crashed into it. "That's right!" She turned the knob, opened the door and ran out.

She arrived at Nook's for her next task: deliver a watering can.
"Don't even think about using it, though," said Tom Nook; "this is for Roald, so make sure it gets to him unused."
"I can't use it!?" exclaimed Dulce. "That's like inviting me to a pool party and not letting me get in the pool, or going to a family reunion and not taking the plates home with me!"
   "Just take the watering can."

She arrived at Roald's house, which was a minute away on the beach.
"Sweet!" said Roald, a friendly penguin. "No more waiting for rainy days to wash the dehydration from the poor flowers. Now Able Sisters, on the other hand...heh! Did ya hear about Avery's encounter with the pond? That thing soaked him to the bone, from what he said! I tried to keep a straight face—Avery isn't exactly the happy-go-lucky type."
"He seemed friendly enough to me," said Dulce. "He let me dry him off with my dryer."
"You're the one who did that? So you're Dulce. My buddy Nate told me all about you! He says you're easy-going and love parfait on a Friday afternoon."
"Yes, it's best to have parfait on friday so you can recover from the calorie overdose on the weekend."
"I have a feeling we're gonna be best buds, you and I!"
"As do I! And now, my work continues. See you after the chores!"
She marched off to Nook's Cranny.
She opened the door and walked into the shop. Had anyone else been outside the store they might have heard Dulce inside the shop shouting excitedly, "Guess who's having parfait this Friday!"

Chapter 10

"And now," said Tom Nook, "comes your next task. I'm sure you noticed the bulletin board just outside the town hall. I want you to write an ad for my store on it. Try to be creative to reel in the customers."
"It'll be an ad they won't soon forget!" she said before marching out the front door.

She stood in front of the bulletin board writing her ad for the store. She finished quickly, and looked toward the shop which she could see in the distance down by the beach.
"Ugh," she exclaimed. "I need a break." She walked to the closest fruit tree and pulled off an apple, then sat down, resting her back against the tree. She bit into the apple, which was as delicious as it looked. She looked to the sky with a soft smile.
"One day, my precious Punch-Out," she thought, "you will be mine."
Whether or not she knew it, she ended up finishing the apple and then immediately fell asleep.

Just outside the Able Sisters shop, the little pond which was usually calm, had suddenly formed tiny bubbles which floated to the surface. They grew bigger and bigger by the second and were soon replaced with small waves which, much like the bubbles, grew in size. Eventually, the waves were then coupled by a small shake of the earth, then a medium shake, until it finally reached the status of an earthquake which lasted for a few seconds, splashing water on the surrounding ground.

Dulce had awakened suddenly to a sky with a reddish orange glow.....she had slept until evening!
"CRUD!!!" she said to herself as she jumped up and ran back to Nook's Cranny faster than dial-up internet could have ever hoped to go.
When she entered the store, she found the store crowded with customers—actually, there were only about six people, but in a place like Nook's Cranny, that exceeds the 'average customer' limit.
"Dulce!" exclaimed Tom Nook. "Where in Joan's Jet have you been? It's been three hours!"
"Well," she started, "I finished writing the ad, then I got tired and picked an apple, then I sat down, I thought about Punch-Out and I fell asleep, and then I woke up and saw the sun setting, and I would've wet my pants if I was wearing any, and then I ran back and here I am!"
"Asleep on the job? .....I guess I'm forced to look that one aside; after all, you did reel in the customers like I told you to. That job earned you one-thousand bells pay! And now, my little underling, this means.....you're done! All your work is now complete and you're free to go on home and relax now."
"I'm free! I'M FREE!!!" she shouted with ecstasy; all the customers were staring at her. "All right! Well, I won't be seeing this dump for a while. In your face, Nook!!"
She turned and jumped into the air as she made her way out the door. About two seconds later, she walked back in.
"I'd like that net, please," she said.
"That'll be five-hundred bells," said Tom Nook.
She paid the small fee and left with the net in hand.
"Now that I have my very own net," she said to herself, "I now have one mission: fish out the exploding item in the pond."
She then ran to the pond outside of Able Sisters, with her map as her guide.
You may be wondering what she had written on the bulletin board to reel in the customers. It wasn't a long advertisement, nor was it the all-business-and-no-play type. The ad read exactly as follows:

"Shop at Tom's 'cause it's da bombs!!"

Chapter 11

She walked along the dirt road while following the directions on her map. It took nearly thirty minutes to reach Able Sisters, which was located at the north end of the village past the museum.
She found a little pond about thirty feet in front of the shop; it looked as though something or someone of mass proportions had cannonball dived into it—water had splashed the dirt and grass around it.
She stood on the edge of the pond with her net and dipped it in, kind of like she was fishing for clams. When she pulled it out, the net was filled with crawfish.
"Do I dare cash them in!?" she said with a big smile on her face. "Yes!"
So she ran back to Nook's Cranny to sell the crawfish and came back with a wallet full of bells.....and a slingshot.
"Now I'm sort of rich!" she said.
She dipped the net into the pond again, once again pulling it out to find more crawfish.
"I could make a living off of this!" She turned away to look for witnesses of her "great" catch. "I wonder if anyone else has acheived this?"
She turned back to her net and found that all the crawfish were gone. She was confused. She looked closer, she squinted, she even put on her glasses to be sure she was seeing clearly...and she was: the crawfish had disappeared.
"Maybe I tilted the net by accident."
She dipped it in again and pulled it out with more crawfish. Again, she turned from the net, never noticing a tentacle pulling the crawfish from the net. Once again, she was dumbfounded. She dipped it in one more time, pulled out a net full of crawfish, had them stolen by a tentacle, and.....got the message.
"Oh, now you're just steamin' my buns!"
She dunked her head into the pond and looked inside. Before she could take a good look, however, she was pulled in head-first.
A few yards away were two others villagers sitting by the river with their backs turned toward Able Sisters. Of course with this position, neither of them ever saw Dulce being pulled into the pond.
"The clouds are especially fluffy today, aren't they?" said the female horse.
"And the flowers are in full bloom!" said Bettina.
As they spoke, far behind them at the pond, Dulce was being swung back and forth above the pond by a large tentacle by her feet.
"Y'know, Victoria," said Bettina, "we haven't had anything new happen around here lately. It's the same old, same old."
Dulce was being smacked into the ground repeatedly by the tentacle.
"You know what would be funny?" said Victoria. "If we turned around and saw something really interesting happening behind us."
The large tentacle was tossing Dulce high into the air.
"That'll be the day!" said Bettina. The two of them got up and walked away laughing. One of them said, "When tv sitcoms become a reality! Maybe we'll see a giant monster!"
The tentacle tossed Dulce high into the air one last time. When she came down, she landed in a nearby tree; her limbs dangled from the branches but her net was in pristine condition.
"Now I know how my food feels," said Dulce, "when I play with it."

Chapter 12

Inside the little tailor shop known as Able Sisters, there were two employees: Mable, the younger blue-furred sister who helped customers, and Sable, the elder sister and seamstress in the shop.
Mable was talking to the mayor Tortimer who wore a top hat and held a cane. Suddenly, the door swung open.
"Hi there!" said Mabel to the new customer. "Welcome to the handmade-fashion palace of Able..........Sis...ters!"
Mabel stood staring in surprise at the one standing in the doorway, as did Tortimer and Sable, the latter who stopped sewing and stared as well. It was Dulce, soaked from head to toe in pond water and her hair pasted to her face (excluding her mouth) from the water.
"Welcome to Nook's Cranny," said Dulce in a tone of stupor, "where all your dreams come true."
"Oh heavens!" exclaimed Tortimer. "It's one of those Fry Children from the SirDonald's commercials!"
Mable patted Dulce down with a towel and she was dry in a matter of seconds, although her hair was still covering her eyes.
"What's happened to you that became so drenched, young lady?" asked Tortimer.
"I think," said Dulce, "the momma crawfish got mad at me for taking her kids and attacked me. It was huge!"
"Momma crawfish?" said Tortimer. "Even a momma crawfish couldn't be much bigger than its children, let alone yourself. I would assume you either fell into the river or one of the other villagers placed a saltwater fish into the pond for some strange research. Yes, it's happened before."
   "With tentacles that big?"
"I think you should go on home now and rest, Dulce. You had a long day at work."
"Hey, wait a second!" Dulce moved her hair from in front of her eyes. "How do you know my name? I don't remember introducing myself to you."
"Oh, my young sprout!" Tortimer laughed cheerfully. "I watched you during your little errands for Tom Nook. I would have liked to introduce myself, but I wanted to see your work in progress, and it was very progressive indeed."
"Yeah, I'm a phenom!" Dulce said with pride. She winced and pulled a crawfish off her behind and tossed it aside.
"Now, go on home. A hard day's work deserves some rest. Oh, by the way, I'm just curious, what is your favorite animal?"
"Well, it has to be slow enough for me to look at. If it's too quick, it's just a blur. Who enjoys blurs, besides......um...blur fanatics...?"
"Slow, eh? Why, that would make me your ideal candidate! I see my looks have a great influence on you. Now, off you go to get some rest, little sprout!"

It took Dulce quite some time to get back home, since she wasn't using her map and she was still a little punch drunk from the large tentacle.
When she reached her neighbor Jeremiah's house, he was standing outside staring at a moth. He didn't notice her until she walked right in front of him.
   "Dulce, is it?" he said.
"That's what I've been calling me!" she said sarcastically.
"You must have had some wild adventure these last few hours! You got a new hair style, too."
"Yeah, it's the new trend. I got it from a sea monster encounter."
"...Whoa, that's deep! Well then, I guess I should leave you be then. Besides, I'm missing my favorite show, Pointed Love. I think the commercial is over. See ya tomorrow!"
He walked into his house and closed the door behind him.

When Dulce was in her house, she turned on the light and saw a cream sofa on one side of the room, along with a note placed on it. She picked it up and read it. Here's what it said:

   Welcome, Dulce!
I hope your new life here is as lovely as Idylland itself!
As a housewarming gift, I had this sofa delivered to your home while you were away on duty. Every home needs one, after all.
Congradulations! As of today, you are now (and hopefully indefinitely) an Idyllite!
                                 Mayor Tortimer

"I guess I should test out the softness," she told herself with a big smile. She turned off the light and laid down on the sofa. "This test could take some time. I should try counting sheep. One..."
Before she could reach the two count, she was out cold, snoring loudly with her arm hanging off the edge of the sofa.
