I set the theme to harmonious. All of my rooms contain all the pieces to the set and theme. The outside is almost perfect except the pavement. My score is only 200,000 and he said its the inside. What could it be? My basement is the only room that isn't harmonious but he said it didn't count. I don't know what else it could be. help please!
If you got your info on what is harmonious from Thonky, that may be the cause of your low score. Some series are wrongly labeled by Thonky and they're not harmonious but rustic. The Blue series is one of those, but there are more. So, if the above is the case, you might wanna check some other sites, like MoriDB. Or check out Liquefy, he's totally trustworthy.
When I was doing Antique (which is actually one of the harder themes), I put out all the antique clothing items (shirts, pants, shoes, hats, etc.) I had in my catalog to push me over the top.
And I think that items that don't fit the theme do detract from your score, but perhaps only in the rooms that have theme items.
Also, don't worry about whether the rooms end up looking junky or weird. There are only a couple of series with the antique theme, so I had to fill the other rooms with clothing, random antique items, and even fossils.
Oh...I think that using the same series in each room won't help. That is, if you have the same harmonious theme in two rooms, it will only count it once.

Thanks for the help. I've reacently discovered there are items that can help your score that are not apart of the theme like items you obtain from gulliver, special items like the zodiac set, birthday cake and so forth. Problem is I don't know what items exactly are okay and which aren't.
I was just having a similar problem doing my first theme challenge...Fairy Tale. I had the complete sweets exterior and three of my rooms with partially complete Lovely, Mermaid and Rococo. My score was stuck at 20,000 and my interior was busting Lyle's chops. Thanks to the advice in this thread, I removed everything that was not fairy tale themed, no matter how much I liked it. Next day-BAM! My mailbox had all five HHA letters announcing my high scores. After having all five golden exterior upgrades, I checked my score and was busted back to 150,000 because my exterior was busting Lyle's chops. So, if I want to try another theme challenge, do I need to. renovate my exterior to the new theme and lose my gold upgrades? Will I win them back? Thanks
If you do try a new theme, you;ll have to do the same thing with that, put only that theme furniture inside. Since I never had the gold exterior during a challenge, I can only assume along with the drop of points, that you'll have to change the exterior as well.
Not to worry about the gold upgrades, those stay! I quit the challenge altogether but still have the option of upgrading everything to gold.
