Does anybody still play this? I quit after I got 102 of the shines. I also quit because of that stupid plinko level under the bridge. I DESPISE that level. One time, I got 7 of the red coins, and I fell. I lost all of my lives, and I quit for good. My favorite levels in this game are Pianta village and Sirena beach. They're so pretty .
Sunshine is pretty much my favorite Mario game of all time. My disk stopped working though, so I haven't played it for about a year. I'll have to pick up a new one sometime.

I haven't played Sunshine in years, but I'd like to again. Maybe this time I could get through Corona Mountain a little easier. That was a tough stage.
I remember I used to rent this game before I owned a GameCube or a memory card. That was tougher.

Ah, I was just reminiscing about this game with a friend yesterday. Super Mario Sunshine and Animal Crossing were the two games I got with my Gamecube on Christmas of 2002. I fell in love with both of them immediately and SMS is still my favorite Mario title (although Galaxy 2 and 3D World are close behind). I love the island setting, the music is amazing, and (most of) the worlds are so fun. Sirena Beach was always my favorite after I got past the manta ray mission which was very hard for me as a kid. But I used to love just running around the hotel, not really completing any objective, and the casino. Pianta Village was my second favorite. I especially loved the missions that took place at night, with all the piantas dancing. The one I really didn't like was Noki Bay, and I wasn't fond of Ricco Harbor either. The last time I played it was maybe five or six years ago, and that was a 100% run. Now I've got the urge to play it again.
I had actually started playing again a few weeks ago! I spent my entire life waiting for the day I'd finally wake up and be "good" at Super Mario Sunshine, and I guess that day has come because I'm not completely awful at the game like I used to be! It's still pretty difficult, but I love it.
I love how it still holds up. Sure, the camera isn't so great and it's kind of dated, but it's not unplayable like a couple other GameCube games.
My GameCube memory card got erased a few years ago, so I have to re-beat the entire game (I don't mind though).
"I got past the manta ray mission which was very hard for me as a kid."
I'm stuck on that one right now. I always get so close, but then my game starts to lag to the point where I lose without even knowing what hit me. I've tried all sorts of different strategies, but nothing's really helped.
If you're near the end when you start lagging, maybe try doing that thing where you spin and shoot water at the same time? The rays are usually small enough at that point that it should do some damage.

I've tried hovering and doing the spin thing, nothing seems to work! I did discover that I'm better at hovering though (I'm not so good at controlling the regular nozzle haha).
I'll just have to keep trying, but I'll let you guys know if I beat it!!
"I don't mean to brag, but since I suck at the Mario challenges, that's quite the accomplishment for me. Still, FLUDD sure would help on some of them."
I'm horrible at the challenges and secret levels, lol.
I beat two of the Noki Beach levels today! I think episodes 2 and 3 if I remember correctly.
Pinna park is pretty cool, but the downright worst mission in that world was The red coin pirate ship level. This stupid mission took me 8 times to complete during an hour and a half period. I'm just glad I don't have to play that mission again.
The red coin pirate ship was AWFUL. Ahh, it made me realize how impossible it feels to control the game sometimes. There's another park mission I've never liked, but I can't remember it off the top of my head. Other than, I love the park! It never fails to make me feel like I'm on vacation.
The Cotton Festival was one of my favorite missions in the entire game! I love how you can grab onto the dandelions and float to the cloud to get the star. There was also a nozzle on that cloud if anyone knew that.
Well, it took two or three tries, but I completed the manta mission in Sirena Beach. I've also cleared 1-7 in Pinna Park. I must be better at this than I remember, because I don't recall ever making it like that.
Of course, the worst is yet to come.

"I also remember how much of a pain it was popping the balloons in one of the Pinna Park missions. And you had to make it in a number of laps. "
I didn't try that one this time around. I was just wanting to make it all the way through, so I played the first 7 episodes only. But I remember that one.
Well, I made it. Took two tries to get through Corona Mountain. I fell in the lava on the cloud jumping the first time, and the second time was the charm. That boat seemed a little easier than the first time I ever made it there. Only time I crashed was when I had to abandon ship anyway.
