I traded some perfect fruit with another player and I planted them and all that grew was regular fruit.  What did I do wrong?  Is there a trick to this?  Any advise on how to get perfect fruit (other than my native), will be appreciated.

Did the other player have the same native fruit as you? The only perfect fruit that can grow in your town is perfect native fruit.

Unfortunately, you can only plant your town perfect fruit for perfect fruits. Any other perfect fruit will only result in a regular fruit tree.
